Introducing the Agents API

OpenAI launched the Agents API in public beta, exposing the Codex agent harness, managed sandboxes, and multi-agent orchestration to developers.

OpenAI introduced the Agents API in public beta, giving developers the same agent harness and infrastructure that powers Codex through a single API call specifying task, model, tools, and environment. It supports OpenAI-managed sandboxes, customer infrastructure, or partner environments from providers including Cloudflare, Modal, E2B, Vercel, Oracle, DigitalOcean, Blaxel, Daytona and Runloop. Features include automatic context compaction for long sessions, tool search and programmatic tool calling to reduce token usage, and multi-agent support for parallel subagents. The harness is open-source Codex code; there are no extra API fees during beta, with developers paying only for tokens and tools used.

Next.js 16.4.0-canary.13 Image Optimizer DNS Rebinding TOCTOU SSRF Still Exists

Next.js 16.4.0-canary.13 Image Optimizer retains a DNS rebinding TOCTOU SSRF in fetchExternalImage() allowing requests to private network resources.

Next.js 16.4.0-canary.13 contains a DNS rebinding time-of-check-to-time-of-use Server-Side Request Forgery vulnerability in the Image Optimizer's fetchExternalImage() function. The code resolves the supplied hostname and checks the resulting addresses with isPrivateIp(), but a TOCTOU gap between resolution and the actual fetch allows an attacker-controlled DNS record to change and reach private network resources.

Attackers Exploit Critical JFrog Artifactory Flaw to Mint Admin Tokens Days After Disclosure

Threat actors exploit CVE-2026-82329, a default-config authentication bypass in JFrog Artifactory, to mint administrator tokens days after patch release.

watchTowr reports that CVE-2026-82329 (CVSS 9.8), an authentication bypass in JFrog Artifactory patched in version 7.161.20 on August 28, 2026, is being actively exploited as of September 1. The flaw, in JFrog Access, lets unauthenticated attackers abuse a 'phantom' join key on default configurations to forge access and mint administrator-level credentials. Observed activity includes admin token generation, user, group, and token enumeration, and backdoor user creation in limited cases, raising supply chain poisoning and lateral movement risks for the widely used artifact repository.

PRs NOT Welcome: How Top AI Open Source Projects Are Managing Thousands of Contributors

Top AI open source projects like Vercel, Astro, Flue, and tldraw are restricting external PRs and using agent-based software factories to triage, fix, and review contributions.

Several prominent AI-native open source projects are closing or limiting external pull requests, largely because submissions are often AI-generated. Vercel built a multi-agent software factory for its AI SDK (over 20 million weekly npm downloads) that now authors 25-35% of merged PRs and closes 70-80% of issues. Astro adopted similar auto-triage automation, Fred Schott created the Flue framework with automatic PR-to-issue conversion, and tldraw automatically closes external PRs.

Next.js Patches Critical AVIF and Windows Flaws Enabling Unauthenticated RCE

Vercel patches two critical Next.js unauthenticated RCE flaws: a libheif AVIF heap overflow (CVSS 9.5) and a Windows path traversal (CVE-2026-75604).

Vercel patched two critical Next.js flaws enabling unauthenticated remote code execution: a heap buffer overflow in libheif's AVIF image scaling (GHSA-2xp9-vwfh-vxw4, CVSS v4 9.5) and a Windows path traversal (CVE-2026-75604, CVSS 9.0). The AVIF flaw affects only sites explicitly enabling AVIF optimization and overwrites roughly 16,384 bytes past the buffer; the path traversal affects Windows-hosted Next.js deployments on versions 13.4-15.5.23 and 16.0-16.3.2. Fixes shipped in Next.js 15.5.24 and 16.3.3 on August 25, 2026, with the AVIF researchers releasing a Python PoC demonstrating RCE on multiple applications. No exploitation had been reported as of August 27, 2026.

Lovable CTO: The Future of SaaS Is Apps That Agents Can Use

Lovable pivots from app building to exposing app functions as agent-callable capabilities via hosted MCP servers, raising a $400M Series C at a $13.3B valuation.

Lovable CTO Fabian Hedin outlined a strategy of turning published applications into agent-accessible capabilities by exposing selected functions as tools through a hosted MCP server, usable from ChatGPT, Claude, and other MCP-compatible clients. The company reports surpassing a $500M annualized revenue run rate, more than 60 million projects created, over 900 million monthly visits to Lovable-built apps, and usage by employees at nearly two-thirds of the Fortune 500. Menlo Ventures led a $400M Series C this month alongside EQT's Scaleup Europe Fund, valuing the company at $13.3 billion. Lovable evolved from the open-source GPT Engineer tool, became a commercial product in November 2024, and now competes with platforms like Vercel in AI-generated software hosting.

  • Improper Authentication in JFrog Artifactory Allows Unauthenticated Admin Access
JFrog Artifactory contains an improper authentication flaw (CWE-287) that, under the product's default configuration, can let an unauthenticated attacker with network access obtain administrative privileges. The weakness is reachable over the network with no privileges or user interaction required, which is why it carries a critical 9.8 CVSS 3.1 score; an attacker who succeeds effectively gains full administrator control of the artifact repository, and public reporting describes attackers using the flaw to mint admin tokens days after disclosure. Any organization running JFrog Artifactory is in scope — CISA's entry lists the product without version detail, so deployments should verify their versions against JFrog's advisory (AV26-867, Update 1) — with internet-exposed instances at greatest risk. Exploitation is confirmed in the wild: CISA added the CVE to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog on 2026-09-02, a public proof-of-concept is available, and news headlines report active exploitation alongside related Artifactory flaws CVE-2026-42016 and CVE-2026-42018.

  • Unauthenticated RCE in Next.js on Windows-hosted servers
Next.js, the widely used React web framework published on npm, contains an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability classified as CWE-22 (path traversal) and rated critical at CVSS 9.0. The flaw affects applications built with the Pages Router or App Router that do not use Cache Components, and it is triggered only when the server runs on a machine with a Windows filesystem; a remote, unauthenticated attacker can reach it over the network, though exploitability is rated high attack complexity. Successful exploitation yields code execution with high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability, and the scope is changed, meaning impact extends beyond the vulnerable component. Only teams self-hosting Next.js on Windows servers are affected; deployments on Linux, macOS, or Vercel's managed infrastructure are not. There is currently no public proof-of-concept, the flaw is not in the CISA KEV catalog, and EPSS assigns a 1.1% probability of exploitation within 30 days, but no workaround exists, so upgrading is the only mitigation.
