Canadian Navy wins US Cyber Command cyber training exercise

A team of cyber-security experts from the Royal Canadian Navy has won Cyber Flag, a yearly cyber training exercise organized by US Cyber Command that has cybersecurity teams from across the world defend virtual networks against simulated attackers.

• Teams from Canada, the UK, the US Air Force, the US Navy, the US Coast Guard, the US Army, the US House of Representatives, the US Postal Service, and the National Guard forces participated this year.
• Seventeen teams with 430 professionals competed in defending the same attack scenarios simultaneously across eight different time zones.
• The exercise's virtual cyber ranges were hosted on CyberCom's Persistent Cyber Training Environment (PCTE) platform and were nearly five times larger than any previous exercise.
• Each team was assessed and scored points based on the defensive measures they took to safeguard systems.
• Team 15 from the Royal Canadian Navy scored the most points.
• This is the second Cyber Flag edition held in a full virtual format after the 2020 edition, forced into this format by the COVID-19 pandemic.
