PRs NOT Welcome: How Top AI Open Source Projects Are Managing Thousands of Contributors

Top AI open source projects like Vercel, Astro, Flue, and tldraw are restricting external PRs and using agent-based software factories to triage, fix, and review contributions.

Several prominent AI-native open source projects are closing or limiting external pull requests, largely because submissions are often AI-generated. Vercel built a multi-agent software factory for its AI SDK (over 20 million weekly npm downloads) that now authors 25-35% of merged PRs and closes 70-80% of issues. Astro adopted similar auto-triage automation, Fred Schott created the Flue framework with automatic PR-to-issue conversion, and tldraw automatically closes external PRs.

[AINews] Fal’s H3 Max Live breaks the infinite videogen barrier

Fal post-trained MiniMax H3 into a 'Max' variant with 35x-faster inference, enabling faster-than-realtime AI video generation and infinite streams.

Fal post-trained MiniMax's H3 model into a 'Max' variant and optimized it for its in-house inference engine, achieving roughly 35x the speed of the official endpoint. The optimization enables faster-than-realtime video generation, demonstrated by an infinite interactive AI-generated stream productized by levels.io. The roundup also notes Meta Muse Code's general availability with an SDK, open DeepSeek-V4-Flash-Vision-Exp weights, GLM-5.3-Flash's strong agentic cost/performance rankings, and Tencent's 770B-parameter Hy4 Preview MoE with 49B active parameters.

[AINews] OpenAI to reach AGI bar by end-2026

OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki says unreleased Astra model meets the 'Automated AI Research Intern' goal; Altman expects internal AGI declaration by December 2026.

OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki says the unreleased Astra model fulfills the September 2026 'Automated AI Research Intern' target. Sam Altman told TIME he expects OpenAI to declare AGI achieved internally by December 2026. The roundup also covers Zhipu's GLM-5.3-Flash (320B total parameters, 18B active, 1M context), Google's Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash video model topping the Text-to-Video Arena, and the $399 open-source Microduck biped robot from Pollen Robotics and Hugging Face.

Arm Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU: desktop-class mobile gameplay with AI-native graphics

Arm unveiled Mali G2-Ultra NX, its first AI-native mobile GPU with in-shader neural acceleration, third-gen ray tracing, and up to 24% higher benchmark performance.

Arm announced the Mali G2-Ultra NX, the first AI-native Mali GPU, integrating neural accelerators directly into shader cores alongside a new execution engine and third-generation hardware ray tracing. It introduces Neural Super Sampling (NSS), Neural Frame Rate Upscaling (NFRU), and Neural Super Sampling and Denoising (NSSD); the Neural Dawn demo with Sumo Digital showed up to 4x performance efficiency and 70% lower external memory traffic versus native rendering. Arm claims up to 24% higher benchmark performance, 13% lower DRAM traffic on ray tracing benchmarks, and up to 120 FPS with NFRU. Over 14 billion Mali GPUs have shipped to date.

NVIDIA Brings Real-Time AI to Broadcast, Sports and Global Streaming at IBC

NVIDIA expanded its AI for Media suite at IBC 2026, adding NIM microservices for synthetic video detection, body pose, frame generation, upscaling and HDR.

At IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, NVIDIA announced a major expansion of NVIDIA AI for Media, a collection of GPU-accelerated SDKs, NIM microservices and blueprints for broadcast and streaming workflows. The Synthetic Video Detector (SVD) NIM microservice reaches 99.3% accuracy on text-to-video and 97.7% on image-to-video content, while Video Frame Generation boosts frame rates 2x-4x and Video Super Resolution adds 10-bit support; TrueHDR converts SDR to HDR at up to roughly 2,000 nits. Partners including Dalet, TwelveLabs, Wowza, Vizrt and Ross Video are integrating the new services into verification, compliance and live-production workflows.

[AINews] Andrew Ng gets into AI Engineering

Andrew Ng relaunches DeepLearning.AI around AI Engineering, defining four core skills from an analysis of 10,000+ job postings and expert interviews.

Andrew Ng, cofounder of Google Brain and Coursera, relaunched DeepLearning.AI with a focus on AI Engineering, basing the curriculum direction on an analysis of over 10,000 job postings plus interviews and surveys. He identifies four key skills: building and deploying AI applications, software engineering fundamentals, effective use of coding agents, and shaping the build with product sense. The Latent Space AI News issue also recaps agent ecosystem developments, including NVIDIA's 'Skill Lift' evaluation proposal showing skill scan scores correlate only weakly (Spearman rho = 0.14) with judged quality, and Konwinski's open-source persistent-agent 'microharness' Headlong, which achieved an unattended self-debugging repair in 48 minutes.
