Root-Cause Attribution Is a Search Problem: Continual Search for Long-Horizon Agent Failures

Continual Search framework iteratively prompts LLM judges to keep searching agent execution logs, boosting long-horizon failure root-cause attribution accuracy.

The paper frames automated root-cause attribution (RCA) for long-horizon AI agent failures as a search problem, since relevant evidence is sparse and distributed across massive execution traces. The authors propose Continual Search, an iterative framework that nudges an LLM judge across successive turns to keep hunting unresolved diagnostic evidence instead of settling on an early plausible diagnosis. They introduce MegaRCA-Mix, a benchmark of 50 human-annotated failure trials on long-horizon, execution-heavy tasks. On MegaRCA-Mix, Continual Search improves GPT-5.5's F1 from 0.349 to 0.498 (over 40% gain), and lower-tier models can surpass higher-tier counterparts when search is effective.

Variational Continuation for Double Pendulum Periodic Orbits

Researchers introduce a Hessian-based, integrator-free method using automatic differentiation to continue periodic orbits in the double pendulum, uncovering previously unreported orbit families.

A new arXiv paper presents a variational, Hessian-based framework for numerically continuing periodic orbits in dynamical systems, parametrizing candidate loops as Fourier series and minimizing deviation from the governing differential equations. Automatic differentiation replaces hand-derived Jacobians, and flat directions of the loss landscape guide the continuation search. The method is demonstrated on the double pendulum, mapping bifurcations along orbit families, including periodic orbits where neither pendulum mass is ever simultaneously at rest.

CONTINUITY: Security-Context Contracts for Composable LLM Agent Controls

Researchers introduce CONTINUITY, a framework of assume-guarantee contracts that preserves LLM agent security context across components, verified across 2,560 attack instances.

The paper identifies security-context discontinuity, where individually sound controls drop, widen, or reinterpret security context as actions cross component boundaries, and proposes CONTINUITY, a framework of assume-guarantee contracts using signed root grants, provenance commitments, role-bound transition receipts, and effect-bound execution permits. It formalizes end-to-end consequence integrity, requiring every external effect to be backed by a valid authorization witness linking principal, task, provenance, and policy state. A reference verifier and cross-layer fault-injection suite covering 32 fault classes showed the full configuration committed no harmful external effect across 2,560 parameterized attack instances while completing all 700 benign tasks and escalating all 200 ambiguous cases.

Continue, Adapt, or Yield: In-Turn Adaptation to Overlapping Speech in Full-Duplex Agents

Duplex Cue evaluation shows PersonaPlex full-duplex agents adapt in-turn to listener contributions in only 34.8% of collaborative cases versus 68.2% for humans.

The paper introduces Duplex Cue, an evaluation of in-turn adaptation in full-duplex voice agents that separates listener intent (backchannel, collaboration, interruption) from speaker behavior (continue, adapt, yield). Using 208 scorable pairs from 300 human-confirmed cues in unscripted English conversations, it compares recorded human responses with PersonaPlex continuations generated while replaying listener audio. Humans adapt within the turn in 68.2% of collaborative pairs versus 34.8% for PersonaPlex, which otherwise continues unchanged (42.4%) or yields (22.7%).

Continual Learning Mechanisms Compose for Long-Horizon Memorization

Composing data, function, and weight anchors with merged LoRA raises 100-task long-horizon retention from 1.2% to 34.9% in continual fine-tuning.

The paper introduces long-horizon memorization: a model learns 100 query-answer tasks through continual supervised fine-tuning without retaining earlier examples or receiving task identifiers at inference. No single continual learning mechanism maintains strong retention at this horizon, so the authors compose complementary mechanisms along data/function/weight anchors and low-rank allocation rules. The best method combining all three anchors with merged LoRA ranks among the top 3 methods on all three datasets and raises average final retention from 1.2% to 34.9%, a 28-fold improvement.

Climate-ModernBERT: Revisiting Corpus Composition for Domain-Adaptive Continued Pretraining

Climate-ModernBERT domain-adapted encoders reach 76.3 average F1 across nine climate benchmarks, 2.8 points above vanilla ModernBERT-Base.

The authors continue pretraining ModernBERT-Base on three climate corpora - academic text, climate-filtered web data, and synthetic documents - and compare joint mixtures against parameter-space merging of specialized checkpoints. The best model achieves 76.3 average F1 across nine climate NLP benchmarks, a 2.8-point improvement over the vanilla baseline. Academic climate corpora provide the strongest adaptation signal, and parameter-space merging outperforms joint multi-source training while preserving complementary corpus information; all variants are released.

Speculative Decoding in vLLM on AMD GPUs

vLLM benchmarks speculative decoding on AMD Instinct MI300X and MI355X GPUs across five drafting methods including EAGLE-3 and native MTP.

The vLLM project documents draft-and-verify speculative decoding support for AMD GPUs via ROCm, comparing native MTP, Gemma 4 MTP, EAGLE-3, DFlash, and DSpark drafting approaches. Output-token throughput effects varied with drafting method, proposal length, model family, draft checkpoint, workload, and acceptance behavior. The post also covers how to enable each method plus practical tuning and observability considerations.

Learning never stops: How AI makes learning continuous

OpenAI report describes how students and educators use ChatGPT to extend learning continuously beyond the classroom.

OpenAI published a report examining how students and educators use ChatGPT to make learning more continuous. The report describes support that extends beyond the classroom, positioning ChatGPT as an ongoing learning companion. The release is part of OpenAI's education-focused communications rather than a technical or safety research paper.

Realtime-Venus: A full-duplex interaction system with asynchronous delegation

Realtime-Venus introduces two 9B full-duplex interaction models (Omni and Audio) that outperform Gemini 3.1 Live and GPT-4o on continuation metrics.

Realtime-Venus is a proactive full-duplex interaction system built on two separately trained 9B models: Realtime-Venus-Omni for audio-visual interaction and Realtime-Venus-Audio for spoken interaction. A dual-loop runtime lets foreground interaction continue while Realtime-Venus-Harness asynchronously executes background reasoning and tool tasks. Realtime-Venus-Omni leads on six of eight video benchmarks, including StreamingBench (70.2%), OVO-Bench (64.7%), and Daily-Omni (81.3%), while Realtime-Venus-Audio tops MMAU (78.0%) and MMAU-Pro (63.2%). On Full-Duplex-Bench v1.5, Realtime-Venus-Audio handles 75% of interruptions and exceeds Gemini 3.1 Live and GPT-4o on all three continuation metrics.

Zero trust AI agents demand a different kind of security

Teleport's Chris Webber argues zero trust must extend to AI agents through trusted runtimes with zero initial privileges and continuous per-action enforcement.

In an interview, Teleport VP of Product Marketing Chris Webber says point-in-time authentication and static least privilege fail for agents that act fast, unpredictably, and continuously, sometimes spawning dozens of clones with the credentials of the human who invoked them. Teleport Trusted Runtimes give each agent a unique attestable identity, zero starting privileges, and expiration after task completion to eliminate standing privilege and stored data. Teleport Identity Security monitors agent actions against declared objectives in real time, intervening up to termination and runtime destruction, replacing anomaly-based ITDR detection with continuous enforcement.
