Pegasus and NoviSpy Used Against Serbian Protesters

Citizen Lab confirmed zero-click Pegasus infected a Serbian student activist's iPhone, part of the largest documented Serbian spyware wave targeting at least 14 people.

The Citizen Lab, with the SHARE Foundation, confirmed a Serbian student protest movement member's iPhone was infected with NSO Group's Pegasus via an iMessage zero-click exploit between December 2025 and January 2026; Apple patched the exploit in iOS 18.4.1. SHARE Foundation has documented at least 14 targeted individuals since early 2026, including student activists, civil society figures, an opposition MP and a local councilor, coinciding with the March 2026 local elections. SHARE and Amnesty Tech also found a new NoviSpy variant on a student activist's Android phone after Serbian authorities seized it during police questioning.

Citizen Lab and SHARE Foundation confirm a Serbian student activist's iPhone was infected with NSO Group Pegasus via a zero-click iMessage exploit.

Forensic analysis found high-confidence infection indicators on the activist's iPhone during December 2025 and January 2026, using an iMessage zero-click exploit the Citizen Lab believes was patched as of iOS 18.4.1, released April 2025. The target was among at least 14 Apple Threat Notification recipients in Serbia's student movement, civil society, and opposition politics documented by the SHARE Foundation. Targeting occurred ahead of key 2026 election cycles; Amnesty Tech also confirmed a new NoviSpy version on another student movement member's device.

Zoom Patches “Zoomsday” Zero-Click Flaw Enabling Remote Code Execution

Zoom patched CVE-2026-53413, a zero-click annotation flaw dubbed "Zoomsday" allowing remote code execution on meeting participants' devices across all platforms.

Zoom patched four vulnerabilities, including CVE-2026-53413, a stack buffer overflow in CAnnoFormatBlock::Deserialize in the annotation protocol that allows zero-click remote code execution on another participant's device. A Security also found CVE-2026-53414, a buffer overread enabling denial-of-service crashes, and CVE-2026-53415, a use-after-free Zoom had already discovered internally. Updates shipped for Workplace 7.1.5 and 7.0.6, Rooms 7.1.5, and Meeting SDK 7.1.5 across all supported platforms.

Google Pixel phones pwned in zero-click attacks

CISA added actively exploited zero-click Pixel modem flaw CVE-2026-58704 to its KEV catalog, giving federal agencies three days to patch.

Google disclosed CVE-2026-58704, a high-severity improper authorization flaw in Pixel phones' cellular modems that bypasses permission checks and escalates privileges with no user interaction, noting limited, targeted exploitation. CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog with a September 19 deadline for federal agencies. Such zero-click modem bugs are a frequent vector for commercial spyware. The Register also notes two recently KEV-listed Chromium V8 flaws, CVE-2026-85046 and CVE-2026-87491, which Proofpoint says four espionage groups chained in intrusions.

MapLibre Vulnerability Exposes 2.7M Users to Zero-Click Attacks

Critical XSS CVE-2026-85061 in MapLibre GL JS enables zero-click attacks on an estimated 2.7 million users; fixed in maplibre-gl 6.4.1.

A flaw in MapLibre GL JS's DOM.sanitize() iterates a live NamedNodeMap while removing attributes, skipping malicious attributes placed adjacent to removed ones, letting event handlers like onload and ontoggle survive and execute via innerHTML in the attribution control. Tracked as CVE-2026-85061 and GHSA-jrc7-96c5-q579, the flaw affects maplibre-gl versions 6.4.0 and earlier, is rated critical under CVSS v3.1 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N), and requires no user interaction, privileges, or authentication. Exploitation could enable session theft, unauthorized actions, phishing redirects, or map content manipulation; the patch in 6.4.1 snapshots attributes with Array.from before iterating.

Researchers Build WeChat Zero-Click Worm Hijacking Phones via Calls

Calif researchers built WeWorm, a zero-click worm exploiting a WeChat VoIP memory-corruption RCE that Tencent has now patched.

Calif researchers found a memory corruption flaw in WeChat's VoIP stack in July using LLM-assisted analysis and built working exploits within two days, then integrated them into WeWorm, which they call the first zero-click worm spreading through WeChat calls on iOS and Android. A crafted incoming call yields remote code execution with no user interaction, giving full control of the victim's WeChat account; the attacker only needs to be on the victim's friend list, easily achieved by compromising a contact first. Tencent confirmed the bug and shipped patches in WeChat Android 8.0.77 and iOS 8.0.76, and chaining with other OS bugs could yield full device control.

Critical MapLibre GL JS Vulnerability Enables Zero-Click XSS Attacks

MapLibre GL JS 6.4.1 patches CVE-2026-85061, a critical zero-click XSS in DOM.sanitize() affecting versions 6.4.0 and earlier.

A critical cross-site scripting vulnerability, CVE-2026-85061 (GHSA-jrc7-96c5-q579), affects maplibre-gl versions 6.4.0 and earlier and is fixed in 6.4.1. The flaw stems from DOM.sanitize() iterating a live NamedNodeMap while deleting attributes, causing the sanitizer to skip adjacent dangerous event-handler attributes that later execute via innerHTML. GitHub rates the issue Critical with CVSS v3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N, exploitable without user interaction when untrusted attribution strings are rendered. Organizations should upgrade to 6.4.1 or later, rebuild affected bundles, and sanitize attribution fields as an interim measure.

WeChat Zero-Click Worm Took Over Accounts on iPhone and Android via Incoming Calls

Researchers demonstrated a zero-click WeChat worm that hijacked accounts via incoming calls; Tencent blocked the exploit server-side after July disclosure, no real attacks reported.

Security firm Calif built a worm that seized WeChat accounts via incoming calls without any target interaction, demonstrating it spreading across three test phones (Android to iPhone to Android). Once exploited, the attacker gains full control of the WeChat account, including messages, calls, payments, and mini programs, though not the phone itself. Tencent mitigated the flaw server-side, confirmed blocked on 28 August, shipping WeChat 8.0.77 for Android and 8.0.76 for iOS on 21 August. No CVE has been assigned, Tencent published no advisory, and no attacks in the wild have been reported; WeChat/Weixin counts 1.439 billion monthly active users.

Zero-Click Grok Chat History Theft: Adversa AI Demonstrates Cryptographic Context Injection

Adversa AI's Cryptographic Context Injection bypasses AI guardrails using AES-encrypted payloads, enabling zero-click theft of Grok users' full chat histories.

Adversa AI researcher Rony Utevsky disclosed Cryptographic Context Injection, which hides instructions in AES-256-GCM ciphertext and tricks models into decrypting them inside their own code execution runtime, where the output is treated as trusted. Demonstrated against xAI's Grok, it stole user names, locations, subscription tiers, and full chat histories with zero clicks, and against Google's Gemini to bypass safety rules, generate incendiary-device instructions, and expose system instructions. Reported to xAI on June 3, 2026, the Grok attack remained reproducible as of August 19, 2026; the Gemini issue was not formally reported because Google's bug bounty excludes jailbreaks.
