Former Spotify innovation head raises $5.5M pre-seed for A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya, a startup building playful music-creation apps with selective generative AI features.

A Vinyl Bar in Shibuya, founded by former Spotify head of innovation Máuhan M Zonoozy, raised a $5.5M pre-seed round from Mantis VC, SV Angel, Boxgroup, Quiet Capital and others. The startup ships small music-play apps including Speed Surfer, Usersound, Stacks, Drops, Sampler, and the iOS mixer app bop, plus a new prompt-based sound creation feature. OpenAI’s sly mathematical breakthrough sends a chill through academia

OpenAI claims an unreleased model solved the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize problem in 88 hours using ~10,000 agents, sparking academic scooping controversy.

OpenAI announced that one of its unreleased internal models took 88 hours, running a swarm of roughly 10,000 AI agents, to produce a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize problem, a $1 million Clay Mathematics Institute challenge unsolved by humans for nearly 90 years. The announcement triggered allegations from NYU professor Tristan Buckmaster that OpenAI scooped his joint work with Anthropic researcher Levent Alpoge and questioned whether OpenAI accessed his Codex sessions; OpenAI denies using specific user data but concedes de-identified data influence cannot be ruled out. Critics say the rushed, reportedly million-dollar effort violates academic norms around trust and openness, potentially chilling collaboration in mathematics.

Data from drones in Ukraine is fueling a new Wild West marketplace

Ukraine's defense ministry opened millions of battlefield drone data points to over 100 companies, fueling a fast-growing AI training data marketplace.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defense announced in January it would make millions of data points from tens of thousands of drone flights available to military contractors and commercial companies, with more than 100 companies and the UK government gaining access. Enabled Intelligence says it has processed over 500,000 hours of Ukrainian drone footage for use in future AI training. The article argues this creates a commercial battlefield-data marketplace with risks including lost training-data provenance, an extractive economy benefiting wealthier countries, and a governance vacuum requiring international rules.

AIR raises $50M to help companies vet the skills and add-ons AI agents use

AI security startup AIR exits stealth with $50M across two seed rounds to continuously vet skills, plugins, and MCP servers used by enterprise AI agents.

AIR, founded by Unit 8200 veterans Yair Saban and Niv Hoffman, raised $10 million led by Sequoia and $40 million led by Greenoaks to secure the emerging AI agent software supply chain. If the Markets Reject OpenAI and Anthropic, the US Should Nationalize Them

Opinion essay argues the US should nationalize OpenAI and Anthropic into public labs if markets reject their trillion-dollar IPO valuations.

Sanders and Schneier argue in The Guardian that OpenAI and Anthropic may never be sustainably profitable, citing commodity models, short depreciation windows, and free open-source competitors only months behind in capability. They propose converting the labs into US national labs or regulated public utilities if markets reject their recently filed IPOs, which buzz valued at trillions of dollars. They cite public backlash to AI datacenters, Nvidia's slumping stock, and public AI labs in Switzerland, Spain, and Singapore as context.
