Maven Robotics wants to steal your robot deployment deal

Warehouse robotics startup Maven Robotics emerges from stealth with $100 million to build 250 third-generation palletizing robots.

Maven Robotics, founded in 2024 by former Apple special projects engineer Hamza Derbas and his brother Khalid, emerged from stealth after raising $100 million from RoboStrategy, LocalGlobe, Vine Ventures, and XTX Markets Ventures. Its wheeled dual-arm robots, moving 10 mph and lifting up to 30 kg, perform mixed palletizing in distribution centers, with up to eight units reportedly running 16 hours a day at 99%+ uptime. The company plans to build 250 third-generation robots, start design on a fourth-generation platform, and expand toward material handling and fabrication, positioning itself against rivals like Agility, which is going public via a $2.4 billion SPAC deal.

SK Hynix reportedly in talks with Intel to build memory chips in US

SK Hynix is reportedly negotiating with Intel to manufacture memory chips in the US, possibly leasing space at Intel's Ohio fab.

Reuters reports SK Hynix and Intel have discussed SK Hynix producing RAM in the US for the first time, including leasing space at Intel's planned Ohio factory or forming a joint venture that could include cloud-service providers; SK Hynix says nothing is finalized. The company is already building a $3.8 billion AI chip packaging and research facility in West Lafayette, Indiana, with mass production expected to begin in 2029, amid surging HBM demand from AI data centers. The potential deal could face a South Korean government review over transfers of strategically important chip technology, and follows Intel's 2020 sale of its NAND flash business to SK Hynix for $9 billion.

If the Markets Reject OpenAI and Anthropic, the US Should Nationalize Them

Opinion essay argues the US should nationalize OpenAI and Anthropic into public labs if markets reject their trillion-dollar IPO valuations.

Sanders and Schneier argue in The Guardian that OpenAI and Anthropic may never be sustainably profitable, citing commodity models, short depreciation windows, and free open-source competitors only months behind in capability. They propose converting the labs into US national labs or regulated public utilities if markets reject their recently filed IPOs, which buzz valued at trillions of dollars. They cite public backlash to AI datacenters, Nvidia's slumping stock, and public AI labs in Switzerland, Spain, and Singapore as context.
