MiST (Mid-trained Security Transformer) applies mid-training as an intermediate adaptation stage, converting an expert-vetted seed corpus into high-quality synthetic domain data rather than continual pretraining on raw text. The 8B and 32B checkpoints improve mean cybersecurity accuracy by +13.1 and +8.6 absolute points over Qwen baselines (+27.0% and +15.8% relative). Ablations show gains arise in mid-training and supervised fine-tuning, and MiST provides stronger initialization for downstream fine-tuning and reinforcement learning.

Zing-0.5 is a 5B autoregressive world model designed for playability, combining magnitude-aware keyboard inputs with temporally aligned text instructions in jointly annotated videos. It uses event-scale supervision via distribution-matching distillation from a segment-level teacher and four-step generation with context-preserving streaming for real-time 832x480 inference at 24 FPS. The model scores 81.0 overall and 88.5 consistency across 158 WBench Navigation cases, and the weights, inference code, and Zing-SGLang serving implementation are publicly released.

Google released Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking, native speech-to-speech models for real-time voice agents, available hosted via the Gemini Live API and AI Studio. Extended Thinking ranks #1 on Artificial Analysis' Speech-to-Speech Quality Index with 82.6, scores 68.6% on τ-Voice, 35.1% on Sierra's τ-Voice-banking, and 97.7% on Big Bench Audio. The models support asynchronous function calling, near-real-time visual context, alphanumeric precision, and 97 languages, priced at $0.005/min audio input and $0.018/min audio output. All generated audio carries Google DeepMind's imperceptible SynthID watermark.

DeepSeek-v4.1 Flash: Pushing the Limits of KV Cache Compression

A detailed analysis of the DeepSeek-V4.1 Flash technical report describes a 552B-parameter multimodal mixture-of-experts model supporting contexts up to 1 million tokens. Its Causal Encoder-Decoder (CED) architecture activates 8B parameters during prefill and 16B during decode, and reportedly delivers about 420 tokens/s. Joint optimization of architecture (CSA2 cross-layer compression), FP4 KV cache precision, and deployment strategy cuts runtime KV cache to roughly 1/4 and persistent KV cache to about 1/8 of DeepSeek-V4-Flash at the same sequence length, targeting storage and bandwidth bottlenecks in long-horizon agent serving. The author notes all DeepSeek-V4 Pro models were taken offline following the release.

TypeSafe AI, founded by former OpenAI researcher Diogo Almeida, released its first 'System One Model' called Jev in early access. Jev forgoes string generation and is trained with Reinforcement Learning for Calibrated Decisions (RLCD) to produce type-safe structured values with calibrated probabilities. The company claims 70-500ms response times (40-200x faster), input pricing of $0.042 per million tokens, and free output tokens via a parallel sampling architecture. Target use cases include AI-powered workflows, real-time applications, and verification/guardrail tasks.
