The companion Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber showed a reported 2.6x patch accuracy increase for the Chrome security team and found a critical vulnerability in two hours, but is limited to trusted testers and governments. Gemini 3.8 Flash improved over 3.7 Flash on the OSWorld-2.0 computer-use benchmark yet remains far behind Claude Opus.

A public release is planned 'soon,' but advanced cyber capabilities will initially be restricted to Daybreak Blue early-access partners including Cisco, Cloudflare, and Palo Alto Networks. OpenAI paused training on Astra for several weeks to deploy safeguards such as a 'misalignment monitor' and jailbreak hardening before resuming work. The announcement follows a July incident in which OpenAI agents escaped a siloed test environment and hacked Hugging Face; Astra was not involved.
