Google launches Gemini 3.8 Live to take on OpenAI's GPT-Live-1 at a fraction of the cost

Google DeepMind launches Gemini 3.8 Live speech-to-speech models, topping Artificial Analysis leaderboard at 82.6% with much cheaper pricing than OpenAI.

Google DeepMind released Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking, audio models for voice agents available through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio, supporting over 97 languages plus background API calls and visual input. The Extended Thinking variant ranks first on the Artificial Analysis Speech-to-Speech Leaderboard with 82.6%, ahead of OpenAI's GPT-Live-1 models. Google charges $0.005 per minute for audio input and $0.018 for output, versus OpenAI's $0.05 per minute, though OpenAI retains full-duplex conversation quality advantages.

Iris-mini and Iris-pro are the strongest open-weight search agents in their class

Chinese lab AllSpark releases Iris-mini (35B) and Iris-pro (397B) open-weight search agents claiming best-in-class results on BrowseComp and other research benchmarks.

AllSpark's paper introduces Iris-mini (35B parameters, built on Qwen3.6-35B-A3B) and Iris-pro (397B parameters, built on Qwen3.5-397B-A17B), both with 256,000-token context windows. Iris-pro scores 88.6 on BrowseComp, 85.1 on BrowseComp-ZH, 92.9 on DeepSearchQA, and 56.4 on Humanity's Last Exam; Iris-mini reaches 82.2, 84.8, 86.9, and 52.3 respectively. Training tasks are reverse-engineered from web link structure, filtered by a judge model, and refined via alternating SFT and reinforcement learning ('SFT-RL climbing') against live web search. Weights are available on Hugging Face, and the Iris Harness with agent loop, tools, and all four benchmarks is on GitHub.

Google's new AI model predicts the future from sales data, weather, and discount schedules

Google Research released TimesFM-3, a 330M-parameter multivariate time series forecasting model that tops Gift-Eval, FEV-Bench, and Time benchmarks and is on Hugging Face.

Google Research released TimesFM-3, a 330-million-parameter Transformer-based time series forecasting model trained on more than one trillion real and synthetic data points. It works zero-shot and adds multivariate support, ingesting related series, historical-only covariates, and known future events such as discount schedules and weather forecasts, while filling all future time steps in a single one-shot pass. Google reports first place among pretrained forecasting models on Gift-Eval, FEV-Bench, and Time, ahead of Amazon's Chronos-2, the Toto-2.0 family, and its own TimesFM-2.5. Weights are available on GitHub and Hugging Face, with BigQuery integration planned in the coming weeks.

OpenAI's GPT-Live-1 API lets developers build apps that talk and listen at the same time

OpenAI's GPT-Live-1 API enables full-duplex speech apps, outperforming GPT-Realtime-2.1 with 0.8s turn-taking latency at $0.05 per minute.

OpenAI released GPT-Live-1 as a developer API for full-duplex speech, allowing applications to listen and talk simultaneously; it already powers ChatGPT voice. Benchmarks show 80.1% on full-duplex interactivity versus 45.4% for GPT-Realtime-2.1, turn-taking latency of 0.8 seconds versus 1.4 seconds, tool-calling accuracy of 87% versus 60%, and a 32% pass rate on a banking voice-support benchmark versus 12.4%. The model costs $0.05 per minute, ships twelve new voices, provides ASR transcripts and response text, and is already in production at Yelp for phone-based reservations.

New Deepseek model V4.1-Flash cuts memory needs for AI agents

DeepSeek released V4.1-Flash, a 552B-parameter open-weight model cutting KV cache needs to a quarter of its predecessor for cheaper million-token AI agents.

DeepSeek released V4.1-Flash, a multimodal model with 552 billion total parameters and 1 million-token context, trained from scratch on 45 trillion tokens of text and images. The model reduces KV cache footprint to about a quarter of DeepSeek-V4-Flash in fast GPU memory and one-eighth offloaded, and 437x smaller per token than DeepSeek-V1, via an encoder/decoder split, 8-16B active parameters per token, and FP4 cache storage. It scores 74.2% on DeepSWE v1.1, narrowly beating Anthropic Opus 5 and OpenAI GPT-5.6 Sol, with gains attributed to data and RL scaling rather than new algorithms. Weights are on Hugging Face under MIT license, also served via API at V4-Flash prices.

Suno launches v6 music models built with Warner, BMG, and Believe

Suno launches v6, v6-wild, and free v6-mini music models co-developed with Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe, retiring all older models.

Suno's flagship v6 serves Pro and Premier subscribers, v6-wild targets experimentation, and v6-mini is free; all three understand vocals, instrumentation, structure, mood, and multimodal inputs, with text-based editing of individual song sections. The models were built with Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe following Warner's November 2025 licensing settlement, while Universal and Sony continue litigating and a Munich court found v3.5 and v4 infringed six works. Suno reports more than 100 million users, over two million paying subscribers, and $300 million ARR after raising $400 million at a $5.4 billion valuation in June.

ChatGPT Images 2.5: Faster, more precise, but not the same for everyone

OpenAI released GPT-Image-2.5 (Flare and Sunburst variants), cutting image generation latency up to 50% and improving multi-round edit consistency.

OpenAI launched GPT-Image-2.5 in two API variants: Flare, the faster default with higher quality than GPT-Image-2 at up to 50% lower latency, and Sunburst, built for precise multi-round edits. Both cost $8 per million input and $30 per million output tokens, with new xhigh and max quality tiers; a max-tier 1024x1024 image runs roughly $0.21. Testing found edit consistency strong in ChatGPT Work but inconsistent in Chat, and OpenAI has not documented how ChatGPT routes users between the models.
