Decomposition Buys Integrity, Not Yield

Study of 600 production deep-research traces finds agent-tree decomposition loses findings at rate N^(1-δ); flat architectures maximize yield.

The paper models multi-agent decomposition as a tree where an agent holding b items retains each with probability r(b); with r(b)=1/b every tree delivers exactly one finding regardless of shape. Analysis of 600 production deep-research traces estimates delta=0.34 retention decay, and 1,012 annotated traces show one brief in sixteen goes off-target per tier, giving an alignment penalty of 0.536. Depth still cuts root context exposure from N to N^(1/k) and is cheaper at scale, with a hazard model over 743,819 production tool calls showing delegation is an opening move rather than a response to filling context.

Disentangling Representation Evolution in Transformers through Directional Decomposition

Decomposes transformer representation updates into parallel and perpendicular components, linking geometry to editing robustness and better pretraining.

The paper decomposes learned transformer updates into parallel and perpendicular components relative to the hidden state, finding substantial parallel components beyond the residual identity path across pretrained models. Targeted edits reveal exclude-self value-space parallel manipulation is more robust than residual-space or perpendicular alternatives, and perpendicular error separates compression methods more clearly. Applying full-aggregate parallel suppression during from-scratch pretraining lowers validation loss and improves downstream averages, with the value-space variant strongest. Structured Claim-Level Discourse Representations for Dense Health Narratives

Researchers propose a claim-level discourse framework for health videos, finding 13.22 atomic claims per minute and that LLMs struggle with pragmatic profiling.

The paper introduces a structured framework for claim-level discourse analysis in dense health narratives on social media videos, modeling tuples that link atomic claims with thematic aspects, stance, and multidimensional pragmatic attributes. Analysis found an average of 13.22 atomic claims per minute in health video discourse. A benchmark spanning four health domains with 1,191 manually annotated claims from 60 videos shows current LLMs perform strongly on thematic categorization and stance prediction but struggle with high-dimensional pragmatic profiling, suggesting future systems need task decomposition and specialized inference strategies.
