Enabling Creative Exploration for Vibe Design Agents

Separating design-direction exploration from code generation via structured specifications broadens UI alternatives without destabilizing output.

The paper proposes an inference architecture for vibe design agents that makes design direction an explicit intermediate decision: a Verbalized Sampling-inspired pre-pass proposes structured design specifications with typicality scores, an external selector samples one, and a downstream generator realizes it under fixed settings. Across 168 prompts with 1,255 paired comparisons per temperature, theme sampling broadens selection coverage and screenshot variation, with LLM-judge preferences varying across interventions and prompt complexity. An online experiment with over 300,000 tasks found the code-export increase statistically uncertain, though negative feedback events decreased alongside modest operational costs.

MOONWALK: Mediating Operations with Intent-Evidence-Action Alignment Across Junior-Supervisor Review Workflows in Animation/VFX Pre-Production

MOONWALK introduces an intent-evidence-action alignment workflow for animation/VFX reviews where AI handles administrative coordination while artists keep creative authority.

MOONWALK is a pre-production review system that articulates creative intent into a shared project record, anchors review judgments to grounded evidence, and converts authorized decisions into concrete revision tasks. AI components handle administrative coordination such as flagging missing context and organizing notes, not creative direction. An in-studio study against a chat-only AI interface showed stronger intent alignment, decision traceability, and checklist executability.

AI Doesn't Mean the End of Mathematics—at Least Not Yet

Schneier and Rafi argue frontier AI models produce notable mathematical results but cannot yet build genuinely new conceptual frameworks.

Bruce Schneier and Kasra Rafi, writing in The Guardian, argue current AI models are not yet as capable as experienced academic mathematicians despite striking results. They cite OpenAI's disproof of the unit distance conjecture, Anthropic's published cryptanalysis results, and Claude's attempt at the Riemann hypothesis as achievements in counterexample search and recombining known techniques. They contend AI has not yet developed substantial new conceptual frameworks, though they expect that capability sooner rather than later.

OmniHarness: Harnessing Generalizable Visual Generation via Symbolic Policy Learning

OmniHarness learns symbolic policies for visual generation agents, reaching a 95.0% resolve rate on ComfyBench Creative tasks, 27.5 points above the strongest baseline.

OmniHarness abstracts verified executions into symbolic policies for visual generation task families, which are instantiated, adapted, and composed for new tasks while model parameters remain fixed. Intermediate verification guides refinement and failure recovery during execution, and self-directed inquiry generates practice tasks near capability limits before downstream objectives are specified. Experiments across six benchmarks, three MLLM backbones, and three visual agent frameworks show strong performance; on ComfyBench Creative tasks it achieves a 95.0% resolve rate, exceeding the strongest baseline by 27.5 percentage points. Frozen policy snapshots improve existing visual agent systems through plug-and-play reuse.

Claude Fable 5.1 Solves the Cyphral Distich, a 370-year-old cipher

Claude Fable 5.1 solved Sir Thomas Urquhart's 370-year-old Cyphral Distich cipher, recovering a hidden royalist prayer for Charles II.

Vals AI reports that Claude Fable 5.1 solved the Cyphral Distich, a 64-number cryptogram from Sir Thomas Urquhart's Logopandecteision unsolved since 1653, in 44 minutes using 176k tokens with no human hints. The key insight was that the cipher's key was the book itself: each number indexes a word in the corresponding Proquiritation, taking the first letter, yielding 'O GOD UPHOLD KING CHARLS THE SECOND AND MAKE HIM THE SUPREME RULER OF THIS LAND'. The model also deciphered the larger Cyphral Octastich (285 numbers) from The Jewel (1652) using page-based word indexing, recovering all but nine letters of a royalist prayer. The puzzle had been listed among Klaus Schmeh's Top 50 unsolved encrypted messages.

Autonomous Research for Open-Ended Problems: A Case Study on Telecom Ticket Retrieval

Case study shows autonomous LLM research reaches 90% of SOTA on telecom ticket retrieval in 10 weeks versus 10 months human work.

The paper explores adapting autonomous research to open-ended, industry-grade ML problems through a telecom ticket retrieval case study with commercial and open-source agents. Autonomous research reached 90% of state-of-the-art performance (0.34 vs. 0.38 Recall@1) in 10 weeks versus 10 months of human work, at up to $200 per Cursor campaign. The authors find agents excel at narrow hyperparameter optimization but lack human-like intuition, recommending human-agent collaboration.

Controversy over OpenAI's Maths Breakthrough

OpenAI claims its internal model proved the Navier-Stokes equations 'blow up' — a Millennium Prize Problem — amid allegations it borrowed mathematicians' methods.

OpenAI announced that an internal model produced a proof, certified in the Lean proof assistant, showing the Navier-Stokes equations can 'blow up,' implying infinite fluid speeds — a claimed solution to one of the seven $1-million Millennium Prize Problems. Mathematician Tristan Buckmaster alleged OpenAI, after learning of progress by him and Anthropic employee Levent Alpöge on 'blowing up' the related Euler equations, adopted a similar 'forcing' method; OpenAI's Sébastien Bubeck denied this, saying the model independently solved Euler by different means and produced the full Navier-Stokes proof over one weekend. Mathematicians including Diego Córdoba, co-developer of the forcing approach, remain cautious, and the community is still evaluating the competing proofs.

Why AI food looks like that

Experts explain why AI-generated food images look unappetizing, citing diffusion model limitations, weak structural reasoning, and stylized training data.

The Verge examines why AI-generated food imagery from restaurants and brands often appears grotesque, citing researchers from Oxford, Naples, Zurich, and London. Diffusion models recover coarse structure before fine texture, so structural errors like extra fingers or donut shrimp get baked in early. Researchers note the models are weak at thin, continuous, terminating structures such as noodles, and reproduce the glossy conventions of professional food photography without understanding the objects. Odd internet imagery and memes in training data further skew outputs toward strange textures and clustered holes.
