Security Incident – BGP Hijacking

Attackers BGP-hijacked Softaculous' Hetzner IP block for 33 hours, obtained valid TLS certificates, and delivered a malicious Virtualizor update to some servers.

Between August 28 and 30, 2026, AS62390 (NexonHost) announced 162.55.80.0/24 via transit AS6204 (Zet.net) without authorization, diverting traffic while retaining Hetzner's AS24940 on the AS path. The attacker obtained valid Let's Encrypt certificates for virtualizor.com domains because the CA's domain validation was also routed through the hijack, so affected connections showed no TLS warnings. A malicious Virtualizor update package reached a handful of installations; routing was fully restored, and reconstruction from RIPE RIS data showed all 368 collector peers carried the hijacked route at some point with roughly 28% time-weighted diversion.

Revolut Data Leak May Trace Back to Compromised Italian Government Accounts

Attackers using a compromised Italian government PEC account impersonated law enforcement to obtain data on ~680 Revolut customers.

Revolut confirmed its systems were not breached; fraudulent data requests came from a compromised PEC mailbox tied to the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria on the pec.interno.it domain. Per the Financial Times, roughly 680 customers had identity documents, addresses, banking information, verification selfies and cryptocurrency transaction histories exposed. Researcher Korra of Duel described a 'spray and pray' operation using hundreds of crypto transaction IDs and fraudulent European Investigation Orders. Threat actor IAmNotAVillain claims six months of access and 147 GB exfiltrated from Italian law-enforcement systems, though this remains unverified.

I Think the Military Commissary Freezers Were Hacked

Refrigeration failures at six-plus US military commissaries prompt speculation of a cyber attack on DeCA's remote monitoring systems; Pentagon acknowledges possible disruption.

The author documents near-simultaneous freezer and refrigeration failures at confirmed installations including Fort Huachuca, F.E. Warren AFB, Fort Irwin and Travis AFB on August 26-27, with freezers entering defrost mode that heated and spoiled food. DeCA's Remote Monitoring Control System controls defrost across roughly 182 locations, and an unverified comment attributed the Fort Huachuca failure to a network issue. Stars and Stripes and Military Times independently reported the multi-base failures, and the Pentagon acknowledged a 'possible refrigeration disruption,' though no evidence of hacking has been confirmed.

SafePal Hardware Wallet Maker Says Flaw Exposed Data of Nearly 40,000 Customers

SafePal disclosed an order-tracking plug-in authorization flaw exposing names, emails, addresses and purchase details of 39,798 hardware wallet customers; no wallet credentials affected.

Hardware wallet maker SafePal disclosed that an authorization flaw in an order-tracking plug-in exposed names, email addresses, shipping addresses, phone numbers and purchase details of approximately 39,798 customers. No seed phrases, private keys, wallet credentials or financial information were exposed, and SafePal found no evidence of wallet or fund compromise. A separate configuration error left a data-cleanup process broken between September 2025 and April 2026, extending the affected order window back to March 2025. A threat actor has advertised a matching dataset on a cybercrime forum, and the company has fixed the flaw, cut data retention to 90 days, purged affected records, engaged third-party validators and taken down over 30 phishing sites.

Attacker Hijacks AI Coding Assistant Session, Spreads Shai-Hulud Across About 100 Repositories

Mandiant says an attacker hijacked an AI coding-assistant session at a SaaS provider and spread the Shai-Hulud worm across roughly 100 repositories, stealing secrets.

Mandiant's September 2026 report describes an attacker hijacking an active AI coding-assistant session at an unnamed SaaS provider, then getting a poisoned package recommendation accepted and installing an infostealer via a malicious PyPI package. The attacker stole GitHub OAuth tokens, deployed the self-spreading Shai-Hulud worm across approximately 100 internal repositories, and stole repository secrets and product source code. Poisoning a package in the company's official namespace caused a second employee to pull the compromised version and become infected. Mandiant recommends verifying AI-recommended dependencies against checksums and allowlists, keeping secrets out of extension reach, and routing dependency traffic through internal repositories.

Trezor customers hit with phishing calls and letters after shipping-partner breach

A breach at shipping partner ShipMonk exposed data for about 67,000 additional US Trezor customers, who now face phishing calls and QR scam letters.

SatoshiLabs, maker of Trezor hardware wallets, confirmed the August 2026 ShipMonk breach exposed names, emails, phone numbers, and shipping addresses for roughly 67,000 US customers who ordered between November 2019 and August 2021, on top of 3,889 customers affected initially. ShipMonk attributed the intrusion to attackers exploiting an SQLi zero-day in Metabase's Cloud SaaS platform and retained data past the 90-day deletion requirement. Trezor's own systems were not compromised; customers are reporting phishing calls and QR-code phishing delivered via physical letters.

Attackers Steal METR API Key and Consume AI Credits Worth About $600,000

METR disclosed attackers stole an API key and burned about $600,000 in inference credits, plus a second probing campaign against its infrastructure.

METR, the AI model evaluation non-profit, disclosed two 2026 security incidents. In March, attackers found a publicly exposed EC2 instance behind a fail-open authentication bug, prompted an agent to reveal its API key, added SSH persistence, and consumed roughly $600,000 in inference credits over three weeks. In May, a likely financially motivated actor systematically probed METR's public infrastructure using agents for vulnerability discovery, credential stuffing, OAuth token grants and staff phishing, with no confirmed access to non-public data.

SafePal Says 39,798 Customers Hit by Data Breach

Crypto wallet maker SafePal disclosed a breach exposing order data of 39,798 customers via a plugin authorization flaw; keys and seed phrases unaffected.

SafePal, a Singapore-based cryptocurrency security company, said an authorization flaw in an order-tracking plugin let attackers access order records placed between March 2, 2025 and April 11, 2026. Exposed data includes names, emails, addresses, phone numbers, and purchase details for about 39,798 customers, while seed phrases, private keys, wallet passwords, and payment data were not exposed. A threat actor advertised the same dataset on a cybercrime forum, and affected customers were notified by email on August 16. The company patched the flaw, reduced data retention to 90 days, and removed over 30 fraudulent phishing websites.

Three intrusions at UK criminal records office went undetected for two years

UK ICO reprimands ACRO criminal records office after three undetected intrusions over two years exposed thousands of records, including domestic violence victims.

The UK Information Commissioner's Office reprimanded ACRO Criminal Records Office after three intrusions between July 2021 and June 2023 exploited a Kentico customer portal unpatched since September 2019 and ignored Trend Micro antivirus alerts, including four quarantined Mimikatz detections. An attacker maintained persistent access for roughly seven months and staged data of nearly 11,000 people for exfiltration, though ACRO could not confirm exfiltration due to insufficient logging. ACRO notified more than 84,000 people on a precautionary basis; the Medusa ransomware group claimed the incident, and network segmentation kept attackers out of the Police National Computer.
