Active Exploitation Attempts Target WSO2 API Manager JWT Bypass With Forged Admin Tokens

watchTowr observed active exploitation of CVE-2026-5430, a WSO2 API Manager JWT bypass using forged admin tokens, risking credential theft and account takeover.

CVE-2026-5430 (CVSS 9.8-10.0), an improper cryptographic signature verification flaw in WSO2 API Manager, lets JWT authentication be bypassed with unsupported algorithms, enabling administrative account takeover. watchTowr honeypots captured forged JWT tokens with baked-in administrator privileges on September 13, 2026, which could expose API credentials, consumer keys, and secrets for every registered application. Affected products include WSO2 API Manager 4.1.0-4.6.0, API Control Plane, Traffic Manager, and Universal Gateway. Fixes are available via GitHub pull requests and subscription update levels, and users are urged to patch immediately.

Android 0-day Vulnerability on Google Pixel Devices Actively Exploited in Attacks

Google patched CVE-2026-58704, an actively exploited Android zero-day allowing proximal privilege escalation via the Pixel cellular modem, urging the 2026-09-05 patch.

Google confirmed CVE-2026-58704, a high-severity elevation-of-privilege flaw in the Pixel cellular modem, is being exploited in limited, targeted attacks and shipped emergency fixes in the September 2026 Pixel Update Bulletin. The low-complexity bug requires no user interaction and enables proximal/adjacent privilege escalation with no additional execution privileges, phrasing Google has historically used for spyware-vendor and state-aligned zero-days. The Pixel bulletin patches 110 flaws including 12 critical RCEs, while the broader September Android update addressed roughly 180 vulnerabilities, including Wi-Fi memory-corruption bug CVE-2026-28662.

Acronis Patches Exploited Vulnerability in cPanel Backup Plugin

Acronis urgently patched CVE-2026-87886 (CVSS 7.8), insecure file permissions enabling privilege escalation, exploited in targeted attacks on cPanel & WHM backups.

Acronis released urgent patches for CVE-2026-87886 (CVSS 7.8), insecure file permissions in the Backup plugin for cPanel & WHM and the Backup extension for Plesk that allow attackers to gain elevated privileges. Exploitation has been detected in the wild in limited, targeted attacks against the cPanel & WHM plugin, but not against the Plesk extension. All Linux versions of the plugin before build 1.9.3.1021 and the Plesk extension before build 1.8.11.638 are affected; Acronis urges immediate updates and has not shared technical details.

Scans Targeting Hospitality Applications, (Wed, Sep 16th)

Scans from a bulletproof-hosting IP target the abandoned PIAF-HMS hospitality application, which contains numerous unpatched SQL injection flaws.

SANS ISC observed requests for /PIAF-HMS/ using the unusual user-agent Farez-Sorter/1.0, along with paths like /admin/, /ucp/, /hms/, and /hotel/, starting September 15 from the single source IP 94.102.49.125 (IP Volume, AS202425, a bulletproof hoster). PIAF-HMS, a PBX in a Flash Hospitality Management System, was last updated 10 years ago and a SQL injection vulnerability was reported recently; the code shows many injection flaws and lacks authentication and access control. The handler notes hotels are soft targets for personal data theft and guest MitM attacks, and asks for community insight on the campaign.

CISA Warns of Critical ScreenConnect Vulnerability Actively Exploited in Attacks

CISA added actively exploited ConnectWise ScreenConnect flaw CVE-2026-84869 to the KEV catalog, setting a September 14 patch deadline.

CISA added CVE-2026-84869, a critical improper privilege management and missing authorization flaw (CWE-269, CWE-862) in ConnectWise ScreenConnect, to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog on September 11, 2026, confirming active exploitation. The flaw lets attackers transfer files to a device and execute them during an active remote ScreenConnect session without authorization or host-user confirmation, enabling payload delivery, unauthorized tools, and persistence while blending into legitimate remote-management traffic. CISA set a September 14 remediation deadline under BOD 26-04 and flagged the vulnerability as requiring forensic triage. ConnectWise has published a security bulletin, and defenders are urged to review exposure, sessions, file-transfer records, and outbound connections.

PHP Webshell Campaign Targets WordPress Through Critical WooCommerce Plugin Bug

Wordfence blocked over 100,000 exploitation attempts against CVE-2026-27540 in WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture, letting attackers upload PHP webshells to WordPress sites.

Wordfence reported more than 100,000 blocked exploitation attempts against CVE-2026-27540 in the WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture plugin (roughly 6,000 active installs), which was disclosed and patched on February 20 in version 2.0.3.2. The unauthenticated AJAX handler wwlc_file_upload_handler reads permitted file extensions from the attacker-controlled request, enabling arbitrary file upload of PHP files such as shell.php that report host details and serve further upload forms. Attack activity peaked between June 4 and June 17, 2026, with additional waves on July 1 and August 30. Wordfence rates the flaw CVSS 9.8, while Patchstack's CVE record lists 9.0.

Critical Issabel PBX Command Execution Vulnerability Exploited in the Wild

Unauthenticated attackers exploit CVE-2026-89026 in Issabel PBX via forged JWT tokens to run OS commands; exploitation observed since September 9.

CVE-2026-89026 (CVSS v4 9.3) stems from a hard-coded HS256 JWT signing key in Issabel Framework's pbxapi/index.php, letting unauthenticated attackers forge bearer tokens and execute OS commands through the Asterisk Manager Interface originate endpoint. Issabel Framework versions before commit b97dbaf0b71c1c36f841e672b664afbeb02773bd are affected. Shadowserver Foundation first observed exploitation on September 9, 2026, and VulnCheck added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities database.
