Scans Targeting Hospitality Applications, (Wed, Sep 16th)

Scans from a bulletproof-hosting IP target the abandoned PIAF-HMS hospitality application, which contains numerous unpatched SQL injection flaws.

SANS ISC observed requests for /PIAF-HMS/ using the unusual user-agent Farez-Sorter/1.0, along with paths like /admin/, /ucp/, /hms/, and /hotel/, starting September 15 from the single source IP 94.102.49.125 (IP Volume, AS202425, a bulletproof hoster). PIAF-HMS, a PBX in a Flash Hospitality Management System, was last updated 10 years ago and a SQL injection vulnerability was reported recently; the code shows many injection flaws and lacks authentication and access control. The handler notes hotels are soft targets for personal data theft and guest MitM attacks, and asks for community insight on the campaign.

A maximum severity GitLab flaw could turn your CI/CD server into an attacker’s treasure trove

GitLab patched maximum-severity CVE-2026-85706, an unauthenticated path traversal enabling arbitrary file reads; CISA added it to KEV amid observed in-the-wild probes.

CVE-2026-85706 is a CVSS 10.0 path traversal in GitLab's repository commits API caused by improper confinement and missing authentication enforcement, allowing arbitrary file reads in a single unauthenticated HTTP request. It affects GitLab CE and EE versions 18.7 before 19.1.8, 19.2 before 19.2.6, and 19.3 before 19.3.2, and was reported via GitLab's HackerOne bug bounty. CISA added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and watchTowr Intel reports already observing in-the-wild probes; GitLab is used by roughly 50% of the Fortune 100 with over 50 million registered users. Defenders are advised to patch immediately, rotate any exposed secrets, and hunt logs for HTTP POST requests to /api/v4/projects/{id}/repository/commits/ URIs containing file.path parameters.

Hackers Exploit Critical Cisco Secure Email Gateway Vulnerability in the Wild to Run Malicious Code

Cisco warns attackers actively exploit zero-day CVE-2026-76461 in Secure Email Gateway, gaining unauthenticated root command execution via crafted emails.

Cisco PSIRT confirmed active in-the-wild exploitation of CVE-2026-76461 throughout September 2026, a zero-day in Secure Email Gateway AsyncOS that lets remote, unauthenticated attackers execute arbitrary commands with root privileges by sending maliciously crafted emails containing injected SQL statements. Physical appliances, virtual deployments, and Cisco Secure Email Cloud instances were affected; Cisco deployed server-side remediations for cloud tenants but on-premises admins must patch themselves. Fixes ship in AsyncOS 16.5.0-780 plus branches 16.0.4-3021 and 15.5.5-0141, and no workarounds exist.
