StepAudio 3 Gen Technical Report

StepAudio 3 Gen unifies TTS, voice design, music, and sound effects via discrete autoregressive modeling over RVQ tokens.

StepAudio 3 Gen is a general-purpose audio generation model covering zero-shot TTS, voice design, vocal generation, sound effects, music, vibe speech, and mixed audio in one framework. It uses discrete autoregressive modeling over residual vector quantization (RVQ) tokens rather than the diffusion Transformer paradigm, with a StepAudio Tokenizer representing audio at 12.5 Hz in a shared 16x2048 residual code space. Key design principles include interference-aware progressive pretraining, an RVQ Adaptor for multi-codebook acoustic representations, and shared discrete autoregressive modeling. The model reports state-of-the-art performance on TTS and voice design while retaining strong generation across speech, vocals, sound effects, and music.

Building and Evaluating Fixed-Voice Thai TTS from Synthetic Speech

Researchers distill a compact 82M-parameter Thai TTS from synthetic OmniVoice data, enabling on-device fixed-voice synthesis without reference audio.

The paper uses a large voice-cloning model (OmniVoice) as a synthetic data source to train Wayu-Paxa-TTS-Edge, an 82M-parameter fixed-voice Thai TTS student. The model achieves 68.2% Challenge-Set Keyword Accuracy (85.5% of Gemini 3.1), 91.4% pause precision, and CERs of 3.7% on Thai and 1.1% on English. It outperforms its teacher on pause placement and is open-sourced with its evaluation framework.

X-AuT: Progressive Audio-Encoder Compression for Speech LLMs with Cross-Scale Distillation

XPeng AI's X-AuT prunes speech LLM audio encoders, cutting Qwen3-ASR-0.6B error from 5.61% to 5.27% with fewer parameters.

X-AuT is a progressive compression framework for speech LLM audio encoders that selects layer combinations via short behavioral probes and restores pruned models using cross-scale distillation and LoRA finetuning while keeping the language-model backbone frozen. Compressing Qwen3-ASR-0.6B from 18 to 16 audio-encoder layers lowered macro-average error from 5.61% to 5.27% on ten Chinese-English benchmarks. A 14-layer model reached 5.75% error with 20.7% fewer audio-tower parameters, and progressive pruning outperformed direct pruning (5.75% vs 6.73%).

What Did I Just Say? Self-Listening for Full-Duplex Speech Models

Researchers propose Self-Listening, a full-duplex speech approach feeding realized model speech back as input to improve interruption recovery.

Full-duplex spoken language models can listen and speak simultaneously, but asynchronous text generation, speech synthesis, and playback cause mismatches between what a model believes it said and what the user heard. The paper defines the resulting recovery problem as anchor interruption and proposes Self-Listening, which interleaves user speech, model text, and played speech as input streams. The authors also release AnchorSpeech, a benchmark with homogeneous training and test splits tracking which ordered response items were actually spoken. Experiments show self-listening models achieve better anchoring performance than full-duplex baselines.

The Attention Triangle in Audio-Video Models

Researchers analyze the 'attention triangle' in audio-video diffusion models, showing bias-driven cross-attention routing causes semantic leakage and proposing inference-time interventions that improve grounding.

A study probes the three cross-attention edges linking text, audio, and video streams in audio-video diffusion models. It finds the audio-video edge is bidirectional and shaped by parameter-encoded biases, so prompts in tension with learned priors can be overridden, producing visually canonical but incorrect outputs. Attention-derived signals are used as diagnostics and to guide inference-time interventions that improve cross-modal semantic grounding while preserving generation quality.

Suno releases its first AI music model made with record industry help

Suno released its v6 music model family (v6, v6-wild, v6-mini), the first trained with licensed data from Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe.

Suno's v6 comes in three variants: v6, the more unpredictable v6-wild, and resource-light v6-mini offered free to all users. The model was trained from the ground up on a new dataset including licensed content from Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe, plus user data, though it is unclear if all dubiously obtained content was excluded. v6 shows dramatically improved genre fidelity, adds plain-language chat editing of individual song elements, multi-element mashups, and prompts based on images, video, or audio. The Verge notes it still cannot produce intentional imperfections like off-key vocals, and v6 starts rolling out now with older models eventually retired.

U.S. Agencies Accuse China AI Firms of Distilling Claude, GPT, Gemini, and Grok

NSA, CISA and FBI accuse Chinese AI firms including DeepSeek of industrial-scale distillation of Claude, GPT, Gemini and Grok since late 2024.

A joint bulletin from the NSA, CISA and FBI accuses China-based AI firms including DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, Alibaba, MiniMax, StepFun and Z.AI of systematic, industrial-scale distillation of U.S. frontier models. The agencies say billions of tokens were extracted from Claude, GPT, Gemini and Grok variants since at least late 2024 through APIs, cloud relays, obfuscated accounts and gray-market proxies, likely with Chinese government backing. Firms allegedly shared premium subscriptions across developer teams and used chain-of-thought extraction and automated failover to evade blocks. Mitigations include subtly altering responses to suspected distillers and correlating activity across providers, clouds and aggregators.

Discrete Beckmann Transport Models for One-Step Language Modeling and Reasoning

DBTM achieves one-step text generation via a time-independent transport map trained directly from data, removing pretrained teacher distillation.

Discrete Beckmann Transport Models (DBTM) build a time-independent flow whose autonomous transport map provably carries any point in ambient space to a fixed point on simplex vertices in a single step. The fixed-point property is characterized by a conservation equation whose residual can be minimized directly from data, eliminating the need for a teacher flow, distillation, and time conditioning. A partial-context interpolant extension turns additional function evaluations into refinement steps rather than ODE integration steps. On language modeling and reasoning tasks, DBTM's one- and few-step generation improves quality and accuracy over discrete diffusion and continuous flow baselines.

VU#859658: Skullcandy Dime 3 wireless earbuds contain an unauthenticated Bluetooth pairing vulnerability

Skullcandy Dime 3 earbuds (CVE-2025-20701) accept Bluetooth pairings without owner consent, letting in-range attackers hijack audio or capture microphone; no firmware update path exists.

CERT/CC's VU#859658 describes CVE-2025-20701 in the Airoha Bluetooth audio SDK, present in Skullcandy Dime 3 (Model S2DCW) firmware 1.0.0.28. A direct Bluetooth Classic pairing request with no PIN or physical confirmation completes via NoInputNoOutput, adding the attacker's device as trusted. Attackers in radio range can hijack the A2DP audio session, access the Hands-Free/Headset profile, and capture live microphone audio. Firmware 1.0.0.30 contains the effective patch, but Skullcandy says the Dime 3 does not support app-based firmware updates, leaving existing units unpatchable.
