SharePoint RCE CVE-2026-45659 Added to CISA KEV After Active Exploitation
CISA adds actively exploited SharePoint RCE CVE-2026-45659 (CVSS 8.8) to KEV; an August 11 update confirms ransomware groups are exploiting the flaw.
CVE-2026-45659 is a deserialization of untrusted data RCE in Microsoft SharePoint Server affecting Subscription Edition, 2019, and 2016, patched by Microsoft in May 2026. An authenticated attacker with at least Site Member permissions can execute code remotely over the network. CISA added the flaw to its KEV catalog on July 2 with a July 4 deadline for federal agencies, and on August 11 confirmed ransomware groups are exploiting it. Microsoft separately described Storm-2603 (Warlock ransomware) and an unrelated actor co-existing in one network, with initial access likely via the Gladinet Triofox flaw CVE-2025-11371 (CVSS 9.1).
CISA Warns of Fortinet Heap-based Buffer Overflow Flaw Exploited in Attacks
CISA added actively exploited Fortinet CVE-2025-25249, a critical heap-based buffer overflow in FortiOS, FortiSwitchManager, and FortiSASE, to its KEV catalog.
CVE-2025-25249 is a heap-based buffer overflow (CWE-122/CWE-787) allowing unauthorized code execution by sending specially crafted packets. CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on September 9, 2026, with a September 12 remediation deadline for federal agencies under BOD 26-04 and mandatory forensic triage of affected environments. Internet-facing Fortinet firewalls and SASE platforms are a likely foothold for credential theft, persistence, and lateral movement; ransomware use is currently listed as unknown.
Hackers Exploit Critical Cisco Secure Email Gateway Vulnerability in the Wild to Run Malicious Code
Cisco warns attackers actively exploit zero-day CVE-2026-76461 in Secure Email Gateway, gaining unauthenticated root command execution via crafted emails.
Cisco PSIRT confirmed active in-the-wild exploitation of CVE-2026-76461 throughout September 2026, a zero-day in Secure Email Gateway AsyncOS that lets remote, unauthenticated attackers execute arbitrary commands with root privileges by sending maliciously crafted emails containing injected SQL statements. Physical appliances, virtual deployments, and Cisco Secure Email Cloud instances were affected; Cisco deployed server-side remediations for cloud tenants but on-premises admins must patch themselves. Fixes ship in AsyncOS 16.5.0-780 plus branches 16.0.4-3021 and 15.5.5-0141, and no workarounds exist.
Cyberattack forces UT San Antonio to delay start of fall semester
UT San Antonio delayed fall semester start by three days after a weekend cyberattack was caught at the network edge before core systems.
The University of Texas at San Antonio, which serves more than 42,000 students, moved its fall semester start from August 19 to August 24 after a weekend cyberattack on its academic network. Officials said the intrusion attempt was caught at the edge of the network before reaching core systems and that no evidence of data theft has been found. The university took systems and services offline for review, causing phone system outages and password reset tool delays. The incident follows the Instructure Canvas breach during spring finals week that exposed data tied to millions of students and staff worldwide.
