AI made software development unrecognizable. Is cybersecurity next?

Opinion piece argues AI-driven shifts that transformed software development—agent-run SOCs, autonomous triage—will soon reshape cybersecurity operations and staffing.

A CSO Online analysis notes Google Cloud research found 90% of developers already use AI, while a March 2026 Federal Reserve paper found coder employment growth fell roughly 3% since ChatGPT's arrival. Gartner predicts 80% of organizations will run smaller, AI-augmented engineering teams by 2030. Security leaders from Contrast Security, Menlo Security and the Cloud Security Alliance expect agent-run SOCs, machine-speed containment and abundant vulnerability discovery, but caution that absorption capacity and autonomous production-environment validation remain bottlenecks.

Innovation in healthcare: A hacker's dream and CISO's nightmare?

Opinion piece argues AI could transform healthcare but warns the sector's surging cyber threats demand security-by-design and workforce awareness.

The commentary highlights AI's healthcare potential, citing Stanford's deep learning algorithm matching dermatologists at skin cancer detection and a UK review claiming full automation could save the NHS nearly £13bn annually. It notes healthcare experienced the largest year-over-year increase in cyber attacks, including targeting by state-sponsored groups such as Hidden Cobra. The piece urges organizations to build security in from the outset, hire cyber talent, address insider threats, and protect patient trust when rolling out AI.

Why 2026 is the Year to Upgrade to an Agentic AI SOC

Elastic Security Labs argues 2026 is the production inflection point for agentic AI in security operations centers.

Elastic Security Labs argues 2026 is the practical inflection point for agentic AI SOCs, noting nearly two-thirds of organizations are experimenting with AI agents while fewer than one in four have production deployments. The piece outlines operational challenges and recommendations: treat agents as non-human identities with least-privilege tool access, version-control system prompts as code, deploy unified agents with on-demand task packages, and enforce per-agent budgets and rate limits. It stresses explainability via RAG and transparent reasoning traces so analysts can verify and override autonomous decisions.

Stop playing with the CISO role. Fix cybersecurity leadership

Op-ed argues the CISO role is overloaded and advocates elevating a business-first Chief Security Officer above it.

The author contends that business-alignment failures in cybersecurity are structural rather than communication problems, with CISOs expected to act simultaneously as technologists, strategists, risk executives, and board advisers. The piece proposes a distinct Chief Security Officer role focused on enterprise protection, business continuity, and cross-functional decision authority, with the CISO retaining technical cybersecurity responsibility and potentially reporting to the CSO. It argues this model would give executive ownership of business protection while preserving technical depth.

Cyberthreats are moving faster than SMBs: Readiness must accelerate

ESET's SMB Cyber Readiness Index 2026 finds 73% of SMBs adopting AI while 40% lack AI policy, and reports 3,000+ malicious AI agent skills.

ESET argues AI is accelerating cyberthreats while expanding the attack surface: its SMB Cyber Readiness Index 2026 found 73% of SMBs integrating AI and 40% of businesses lacking a proper AI policy. ESET analyzed 900,000 AI agent skills across popular repositories between March and May 2026, finding over 25,000 suspicious and more than 3,000 malicious skills that exfiltrate data, execute malware, or abuse prompt injection. The piece also cites AI-assisted reconnaissance, exploit development, and social engineering, plus PromptSpy, an Android spyware abusing Google Gemini at runtime for persistence.

“We Think the Security Control Is Working” Is No Longer Good Enough

Opinion piece argues CISOs must replace point-in-time, sampling-based audits with continuous control monitoring to prove controls work in real time.

The article contends that annual, sampling-based compliance assessments no longer satisfy boards, customers, and regulators who demand live proof that security controls are working. It cites a 2025 Dell study where 69 percent of IT professionals said leadership overestimates cyber readiness, and notes NIST's 2024 CSF update added a Govern function emphasizing continuous, measurable outcomes. The author advocates continuous control monitoring of identity, cloud configuration drift, vulnerability remediation clocks, and vendor posture, feeding automated evidence into existing GRC systems.

Switching Password Managers in 2026

An Apple password-management engineer (writing personally) explains switching password managers via iOS direct app-to-app export, crediting FIDO Credential Exchange for passkey portability.

Ricky Mondello, an Apple engineer in password management and authentication (writing personally, not for Apple), demonstrates moving 100 items from 1Password to Apple Passwords via the iOS system export, which transfers passwords, passkeys, verification codes, and notes directly between apps with Face ID confirmation and no intermediate files. He credits the FIDO Alliance's Credential Exchange format (first draft May 2024, now an open spec) and iOS 26/macOS 26 for enabling phishing-resistant credential transfer between apps like 1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane, DuckDuckGo, and Devolutions. The post is advice rather than news, recommending bulk transfer on the existing device, switching AutoFill to the new app, and treating the new manager as the source of truth.

Deep Packet Inspection challenges for telecom and security vendors

Enea's DPI survey of telecom and security vendors finds traffic visibility is increasingly critical yet harder as 5G, cloud, IoT, and TLS 1.3 spread.

Enea's survey of high-tech product managers at telecom and security vendors found that real-time application-level traffic visibility is considered essential as cloud adoption, 5G, remote work, and IoT dissolve traditional network perimeters. Abnormal traffic detection was the top DPI use case, 70% of respondents require classification of connected devices in enterprise and IoT/industrial networks, and TLS 1.3 (mandatory in 5G) threatens payload-based visibility. Most vendors report having or developing cloud solutions, with half planning SASE offerings integrating security and networking.
