What is Proactive Threat Intelligence? | Recorded Future
Recorded Future publishes a vendor explainer on proactive threat intelligence, arguing external adversary context helps teams act before alerts fire.
Recorded Future published a conceptual blog on proactive threat intelligence, describing how external context on adversaries, infrastructure, stolen credentials, and vulnerability exploitation helps security teams act before intrusions surface internally. The piece outlines a four-step program: defining intelligence requirements, collecting external sources including OSINT and dark web, analyzing relevance to the organization, and driving security actions. Use cases include prioritizing CVEs by real-world exploitation activity and identifying external exposure before it becomes an internal incident.
How to secure hybrid meeting rooms without sacrificing user experience
Sponsored Barco piece, citing IDC data, says security is now the top videoconferencing purchase criterion as NIS2 and Cyber Resilience Act compliance pressures mount.
The sponsored article cites IDC research showing security (31%) now outranks price (26%) and quality (25%) as the top videoconferencing purchase criterion. It highlights concerns like malware propagation (47%), missed patches (39%), and risky user behavior (37%), and references NIS2, the Cyber Resilience Act, the Radio Equipment Delegated Act, and ISO/IEC 27001. Barco ClickShare marketing director Yannic Laleeuwe argues security is now a prerequisite for market access and resilience, but warns that usability tradeoffs drive risky workarounds.
The democratization of cyber warfare — and what it means for CISOs
CSO Online argues AI is democratizing cyber warfare, citing Taiwan's first largely autonomous AI-driven attack that hit 85 government accounts.
CSO Online argues AI is accelerating the democratization of cyber warfare by collapsing cost and skill barriers, with effects already reaching the private sector. It cites the August disclosure of the first largely autonomous AI-enabled attack on Taiwan government infrastructure, where up to eight agents operating simultaneously compromised at least 85 government accounts and exfiltrated more than 2,500 personnel records before expanding to the nuclear safety agency and energy companies. The piece places this in a historical arc from crossbows to cheap drones and cites Kane Gamble's 2015 solo social-engineering compromise of senior US intelligence officials as evidence that low-resource attackers were already viable.
Week in review: Salesforce and ServiceNow portals exposed for 17 months, exploited Metabase 0-day
Weekly digest: exploited Metabase zero-day breached Framework; Salesforce/ServiceNow portals read for 17 months; Microsoft patched 400+ flaws.
Help Net Security's week in review aggregates top stories: a 'City-Forum' campaign tracked by Reco has been pulling records from Salesforce and ServiceNow portals worldwide for 17 months, and Framework suffered a breach via an exploited Metabase zero-day exposing customer contact and IP data. It also covers Microsoft's August 2026 Patch Tuesday fixing 400+ flaws including exploited zero-day CVE-2026-68820, Cisco's fix for exploited firewall DoS bug CVE-2026-20349 (added to CISA KEV), and a second N-able N-central hotfix for actively exploited CVE-2026-18577. Other items include GitHub expanding Dependabot malware alerts to eight package ecosystems and EU AI Act enforcement beginning on 2 August 2026.
MSPs say nearly half their customers rely on them for CISO services
Sophos survey finds MSPs act as CISOs for an average 46% of customers, mostly with partial compliance offerings and fragmented manual reporting.
A Sophos survey found MSPs estimate that 46% of their customers rely on them to act as CISOs, and most providers deliver only four to six of seven measured compliance services. More than half say they manage customers' full compliance programs, while compliance requirements influence roughly half of customers' security purchases. Nearly nine in ten providers use software, but most juggle multiple tools that cannot feed a central reporting platform, forcing staff to combine data manually. Providers estimated a unified platform would cut time spent on posture, compliance and reporting by about half; Sophos sells CISO Advantage via its Sophos Fusion system for this work.
Dataminr uses agentic AI to predict and verify security threats
Dataminr launches agentic AI capabilities for corporate security, adding automated event corroboration, context, and near-term threat prediction.
Dataminr Advanced for Corporate Security introduces Agentic Corroboration, Agentic Context, and Near-Term Predictive Intelligence, now generally available, moving the company from real-time alerting to what it calls Autonomous Real-Time Intelligence. The product relies on more than 60 fine-tuned task-specific LLMs trained on a 10+ year proprietary event archive rather than general-purpose frontier models. Upcoming releases include ReGenAI Tailored Live Briefs, a Watchlist Agent, Agentic Search, and an Advanced API suite.
Patch Tuesday to Pentest Wednesday: How an Equipment Rental Company Is Turning Continuous Testing Into Continuous Exposure Management
An equipment rental company uses Horizon3 NodeZero for continuous exposure management, surfacing an SSH key exposure in eight hours versus annual pentesting.
The company moved from periodic penetration testing to continuous exposure management using the NodeZero Proactive Security Platform, feeding telemetry into a Splunk-based CTEM pipeline via Horizon3 APIs. NodeZero exposed SSH RSA key pairs from a PHP web server change about eight hours after introduction and found more findings in 12 hours than a third-party engagement found in roughly 30 days. An Active Directory password audit of 15,000 passwords found about 300 identical or similar compromised passwords, driving a banned-password list, 12-character minimums, service desk changes, and self-service reset rollout; users with similar passwords later dropped from 880 to 209. NodeZero also validated a suspected Cisco vulnerability as exploitable.
New CISO appointments 2026
Companies including Mistral AI, Trellix, Marriott, and ANZ appointed new CISOs in July-September 2026 amid high security-leadership turnover.
CSO Online's rolling column tracks senior security appointments, noting many companies are hiring a CSO/CISO for the first time. Notable moves include Thomas Coudray leaving Ledger to become Mistral AI's CISO, David Soto joining Trellix from Amazon, and Daniel Dubowski becoming Marriott International's SVP and CISO. Other appointments span ANZ, Gigamon, Axonius, Tricentis, Remitly, Allied Universal, and the State of California.
Key Reasons Why Identity Fabric Matters in 2026
Identity sprawl and unowned machine identities leave enterprise access unobserved at runtime; identity fabrics aim to close the gap between policy intent and execution.
This sponsored explainer describes identity fabric as an architectural approach connecting identity providers, governance systems, applications, and infrastructure into one observable layer that compares designed access intent with runtime execution. It argues identity sprawl across SaaS, APIs, and cloud workloads, plus unmanaged non-human identities (service accounts, bots, workloads, API keys), leaves overprivileged, dormant, and unowned machine identities unmonitored. IdP-only monitoring misses application-layer attacks, and the piece advocates behavioral visibility and lifecycle governance for secrets and machine identities.
