Thorough reorganization at NSA will create five 'mission centers,' including cyber and AI

NSA is reorganizing into five mission centers covering China, cybersecurity, AI, combat support and global intelligence, with full capability targeted by January.

NSA Director Gen. Joshua Rudd announced a sweeping reorganization replacing existing directorates with five mission centers focused on China, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, combat support, and global intelligence. A 30-day implementation clock has started, and the centers are expected to reach full operational capability by January. Officials acknowledge the rapid realignment will 'break things' in the agency's bureaucracy; this is the largest restructuring since the NSA21 effort roughly a decade ago, which was widely viewed as a failure.

Conti ransomware gang member sentenced to 4 years in prison

US court sentences Ukrainian Conti ransomware member Oleksii Lytvynenko to four years; the gang extorted over $150M from 1,000+ victims.

Ukrainian national Oleksii Oleksiyovych Lytvynenko, 44, was sentenced to four years in prison for his role in Conti ransomware attacks between 2021 and 2022, after being arrested by Irish police in July 2023 and extradited to the US. He pleaded guilty in June 2026 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, admitting he controlled stolen data from 12 victims and helped develop a loader used in the gang's double extortion attacks. Per the DOJ, Conti attacked more than 1,000 victims across 47 US states and 31 foreign countries, with victim payouts exceeding $150 million as of January 2022. Conti shut down in 2022 and later split into groups including BlackCat, Black Basta, Hive and Quantum.

Five alleged leaders of Black Axe’s operations in South Africa extradited to US

US extradited five alleged Black Axe Cape Town leaders from South Africa to face romance-scam wire fraud and money laundering charges.

The Justice Department announced five alleged leaders of Black Axe's South African wing, all Nigerian nationals, were extradited to the US over romance and advance-fee scams run from at least 2011 until their 2021 arrests in South Africa. Prosecutors say the group used fake identities and threatened to expose victims' sensitive photos, with charges including wire fraud, money laundering, and aggravated identity theft carrying up to 62 years. The extradition follows recent multi-country stings arresting dozens of Black Axe members, including 34 arrests in Spain.

Suspected Black Axe gang leaders face cybercrime charges in the US

Five alleged Black Axe leaders extradited from South Africa to the US face wire fraud and money laundering charges over romance scams.

Perry Osagiede, Franklyn Osagiede, Osariemen Clement, Collins Otughwor, and Musa Mudashiru were extradited to the US on September 11, 2026, accused of running advance-fee and romance scams from Cape Town between 2011 and 2021. Victims were deceived via dating sites, aliases, and VoIP numbers, and coerced with threats to publish sensitive photos. The case follows Operation Jackal IV, which arrested 58 people across 22 countries; Black Axe is estimated to have 30,000 registered members.
