NightmareStresser Goes Offline in Global DDoS-for-Hire Crackdown

The DOJ seized NightmareStresser domains, a DDoS-for-hire service behind hundreds of thousands of attacks since 2022, as part of Operation PowerOFF.

The US Department of Justice announced the court-authorized seizure of internet domains behind NightmareStresser, a booter service allegedly used to launch hundreds of thousands of actual or attempted DDoS attacks worldwide since 2022. The action, announced from the District of Alaska with FBI Anchorage and Royal Canadian Mounted Police support, is part of Operation PowerOFF, which previously took down 53 domains across 21 countries in April and 27 booter sites in December 2024. Over the past eight years, prosecutors have charged twelve defendants and seized more than 100 domains tied to DDoS-for-hire services.

Norway announces investigations into telecom Telenor’s work with Myanmar junta

Norwegian police opened crimes-against-humanity and sanctions investigations into Telenor's data handovers to Myanmar's junta, raiding its Oslo headquarters.

Norway's National Criminal Investigation Service is investigating Telenor for complicity in crimes against humanity for repeatedly handing over historical customer traffic data to Myanmar's military regime between the February 2021 coup and the March 2022 subsidiary sale. The Police Security Service is separately probing sanctions violations because the sale to M1 Group included sanctioned surveillance equipment transferred without foreign ministry permission. The subsequent resale passed historical call data of over 18 million people to junta-linked owners, and a class action on behalf of 1,200 people alleges the data enabled arrests, torture, and at least one execution.

UK Government Begins Moving 23 Million Users Away From Passwords

UK government rolls out passkeys for GOV.UK One Login, giving 23 million users phishing-resistant passwordless access to public services.

The UK government has begun deploying passkeys across GOV.UK One Login for more than 23 million users, replacing passwords and SMS one-time codes with FIDO2 cryptographic credentials. A trial saw over 300,000 people adopt passkeys, and nearly one in ten daily authentications already use them, cutting SMS verification costs by almost £600 per day. Passkeys remain optional, with password-based sign-in retained as a fallback, and the NCSC endorses the approach as phishing-resistant.

Cops Search Thousands of Flock Cameras for Reasons of ‘LMAO,’ ‘IDK,’ ‘Hehe,’ and ‘asdfg’

EFF analysis found police searched Flock's 19,000-camera ALPR network using joke reasons like 'LMAO' and 'idk,' exposing routine warrantless surveillance abuse.

An EFF analysis of Flock audit logs, shared with 404 Media, found officers across dozens of jurisdictions searching over 19,000 cameras in 1,558 cities with justifications like 'LMAO,' 'idk,' and keyboard gibberish between 2023 and late 2025. One Lake County, Indiana sheriff's deputy searched for a license plate across the entire network citing 'LMAO.' After outlets exposed searches targeting ICE detainees, an abortion patient, and protesters, officers were reportedly told to be 'as vague as permissible,' and Flock replaced the free-text reason box with a prepopulated drop-down list, which EFF called a loss for transparency. Departments rarely disciplined offending officers, and EFF concluded agencies cannot oversee themselves.
