APT36 Suspected in PATCHCORD Espionage Campaign Using Google Sheets C2

Acronis Threat Research Unit documented PATCHCORD, a previously undocumented C/C++ backdoor delivered via fake VPN installers impersonating Afghan Telecom (AFTEL), which hijacks Edge, Chrome and Firefox shortcuts for persistence and executes in-memory shellcode. A related Go implant, SHEETCORD, abuses the Google Sheets API for per-victim C2 and was distributed via a domain impersonating India's National Informatics Centre, while a third tool, HACKERAI C2 Agent, uses GitHub Gists and shows signs of LLM-assisted coding. An exposed staging server revealed SuperShell, RAT frameworks, credential-harvesting tools and OpenSSH exploit code, and the researchers attribute the activity to APT36/Transparent Tribe at moderate confidence.
One Attacker Has Scraped Both Salesforce and ServiceNow Portals Since 2025
Reco tracks the City Forum campaign: one Contabo VPS has scraped Salesforce and ServiceNow guest portals across finance, telecom and public sector since March 2025.
Reco researchers identified infrastructure at 158.220.87.79, a Contabo VPS using Go's default net/http user agent, that has harvested records from Salesforce Experience Cloud and ServiceNow customer portals across telecom, financial services, enterprise software and public sector targets for over a year. The tool abuses over-privileged persistent guest users, enumerating Salesforce Aura sites (560,000+ events at one target), probing Lightning Web Runtime via the UI-API across API versions v56.0-v66.0, and hitting the poorly documented ServiceNow Service Portal search endpoint. No named victims or actor attribution yet, and activity is ongoing with rising volume. Defenders are advised to hunt the Go-http-client user agent and specific IP in Salesforce Event Monitoring logs and syslog_transaction on ServiceNow, then tighten guest sharing rules and Knowledge Base read criteria.
Officials disrupt Chinese espionage operation that hit multiple federal agencies

Authorities seized three domains powering QScan and QTRouter, the hacking suite of QTFY, a Chinese government-funded group operating through front company Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology. Targets include the Departments of Energy, Justice, and Health and Human Services, the Federal Reserve, NASA, NIH, financial institutions, defense contractors, utilities, telecoms, and hospitals; the group exploited zero-days in Ivanti, Pulse Secure, Fortinet, Citrix, and others, intruding three DOE national labs in September 2024. QScan carried over 200 proof-of-concept exploits and processed more than two million scanning tasks in a single day in 2024.

ShinyHunters-affiliated operators used AI to dump over 2,100 Azure access tokens across 40 corporate tenants in 34 hours. Seven Chinese labs including Alibaba, DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, Xiaomi and Zhipu distilled Claude outputs; Alibaba peaked at nearly 3 million exchanges per day from more than 3,500 fraudulent accounts to train its Qwen systems.
Chinese espionage groups swarm to exploit triple-link chain of zero-days
Four China-aligned espionage groups, starting with TA412/APT31, chained zero-days CVE-2026-85046, CVE-2026-87491 and CVE-2026-85880 to spy on targets since late August.

The chain pairs Chromium JavaScript engine RCE flaws CVE-2026-85046 and CVE-2026-87491 with the Windows ALPC privilege-escalation zero-day CVE-2026-85880, enabling sandbox escape and system privileges. Delivery used phishing links installing a fake Google Gemini browser extension that surveilled browser activity and stole credentials; Proofpoint directly observed fewer than 20 organizations but expects wider proliferation as the kit spreads.
Pegasus, NoviSpy variant spyware found on devices of Serbian activists

DoJ Corrects China Hacking Claim, Says U.S. Agencies Were Targets, Not Victims
DoJ corrected its statement to say US federal agencies were targets, not confirmed victims, of China-linked group QTFY's intrusions.
The US Department of Justice revised its press release to list NASA, the Federal Reserve, Department of Energy, DoJ, HHS, NIH and the US Senate as 'among the targets' of QTFY (aka QT AND QTCYBER), rather than victims. QTFY, active since 2018 and linked to Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Co with payments suggesting MSS sponsorship, operates the QScan vulnerability scanning platform and QTRouter obfuscation network, which underpin the Fast Labyrinth encrypted ORB relay network built from infected IoT devices and leased VPSs. The FBI seized qtproxy[.]xyz, qt-proxy[.]org and qt-team[.]com, disrupting QScan and QTRouter, while Lumen Black Lotus Labs reported the actor industrialized ORB networks for China-linked espionage. A 2019 NASA intrusion attempt exploited CVE-2019-11510, a critical Pulse Secure VPN flaw.
