An Empirical Analysis of CodeQL False Positives and Query Refinements for Java Vulnerabilities

IANS survey of 500 US CISOs finds AI is the top priority for net-new security budget even as overall cybersecurity budgets stay flat.

IANS's 2026 Security Budget Benchmark Report, based on interviews with 500 US security executives, found AI was the most popular focus for incremental budget, cited by 69% of respondents. Software now accounts for 35% of the security budget in 2026, up from 29% last year, nearly matching staff and compensation. Overall median budget growth remained flat, with 55% keeping budgets flat or making cuts, while 71% of VC-backed companies increased security budgets versus 52% of public companies. Most CISOs (69%) do not expect AI to cut headcount, and 81% anticipate it creating demand for new roles and skills.

Retrofitting Code Using LLMs to Support Exceptional Behavior

EXCODER combines static/dynamic analysis with LLMs to retrofit exception-handling code, achieving 85.92% pass@1 with Qwen 2.5 Coder 32B on Java benchmarks.

The paper introduces the task of retrofitting existing code with Exception Related Code (throw statements, guarding conditions, try/catch blocks) so that given Exceptional Behavior Tests pass. EXCODER performs context engineering by integrating static and dynamic program analysis output with LLMs; it was evaluated on a benchmark built from 304 methods across 75 GitHub Java projects. Combined with Qwen 2.5 Coder 32B, EXCODER achieves pass@1, 5, and 10 rates of 85.92%, 86.18%, and 86.51%, roughly 13 percentage points over baseline, and manual inspection reveals remaining limitations.

Unit 42 discovered ApateWeb, a large-scale campaign using a network of more than 130,000 domains to deliver scareware, potentially unwanted programs, adware including a rogue browser and browser extensions, and scam pages. The campaign uses a three-layer structure with deceptive emails as the entry point, centralized victim tracking via UUIDs, intermediate adware or anti-bot redirections, and evasion tactics such as cloaking, bot detection error pages, and wildcard DNS abuse. Activity spiked since August 2022, with several hundred attacker-controlled sites remaining in Tranco's top 1 million rankings and millions of monthly hits; Unit 42 blocked an estimated 3.5 million sessions across 74,711 devices in November 2023.
