iceener/files-stdio-mcp-server: sandbox escape in fs_search via a symlinked directory (recursive walker validates only the top level)

iceener/files-stdio-mcp-server allows a read-side sandbox escape: fs_search follows symlinked directories while the recursive walker validates confinement only at the top level.

A vulnerability report describes a read-side sandbox escape in iceener/files-stdio-mcp-server, an MCP server for text-based file access that explicitly promises 'Sandboxed filesystem access. Only these paths are available'. The fs_search tool can follow symlinked directories outside the allowed paths, and the recursive directory-listing walker used by fs_search (and by fs_read) validates confinement only at the top level. The same flaw affects fs_read's directory-listing walker. No CVE identifier was assigned in the provided report text.

CVE-2026-77147: Apache Syncope: Groovy Sandbox escape for empty CommandArgs

Apache Syncope patches an important Groovy sandbox escape (CVE-2026-77147) allowing administrators to achieve code injection via empty CommandArgs.

CVE-2026-77147 is an important-severity improper control of code generation vulnerability in Apache Syncope, rated as a Groovy sandbox escape for empty CommandArgs. An administrator with adequate privileges can exploit the flaw to achieve code injection. Affected versions include syncope-core-spring 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, 4.0.0-M0 through 4.0.7, and 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.2.

Isolated-vm Flaw Lets Sandboxed JavaScript Escape to Host for Potential RCE

Critical type-confusion flaw in isolated-vm Node.js sandbox (GHSA-864f-rcv7-6rh4) enables guest-to-host escape and potential RCE; fixed in 6.2.0 and 7.0.1.

Endor Labs researcher Cristian-Alexandru Staicu found a type confusion in the ExternalCopy component's handling of the transferList option in isolated-vm, letting sandboxed JavaScript corrupt host-process memory and escalate from controlled-address crashes to full control-flow hijack of the host, i.e., potential remote code execution. The flaw, tracked as GHSA-864f-rcv7-6rh4 with no CVE yet, affects all versions through 7.0.0 of the library, which sees nearly 1 million npm downloads weekly. It was patched in versions 6.2.0 and 7.0.1 released earlier in August 2026, and full exploit details are withheld to prevent attacks. The V8 Isolate boundary itself held; the failure was in the C++ marshalling code bridging host and guest.

Survey of filesystem MCP servers: how the "sandboxed filesystem" boundary is enforced (one breach, four defended-by-design)

Survey finds one filesystem MCP server vulnerable to a symlink-based sandbox escape while four others are defended by design.

A survey of five filesystem MCP servers assessed how each enforces its path-confinement boundary against symlink escapes in recursive directory walkers. The iceener/files-stdio-mcp-server is vulnerable to a read-side sandbox escape. The other four are defended by design or make no confinement claim. The author describes the vulnerability class as small but real.

Three CVSS 10.0 ServiceNow Flaws Could Let Unauthenticated Attackers Execute Code and SQL

ServiceNow patched four AI Platform flaws, including three pre-authentication CVSS 10.0 issues enabling unauthenticated code execution, SQL injection, and privilege escalation.

ServiceNow released patches on August 27, 2026 for four AI Platform flaws: CVE-2026-18885 (code injection in the GraphQL Composite Data API), CVE-2026-18886 (improper access control enabling privilege escalation), and CVE-2026-74820 (SQL injection), all self-rated CVSS 10.0 and exploitable without authentication, plus CVE-2026-6876, an 8.7 sandbox escape. Updates were deployed to hosted instances, but self-hosted customers must patch affected Xanadu, Yokohama, Zurich, and Australia release lines themselves. ServiceNow says it is not aware of exploitation of the new flaws, and no public exploit code existed as of August 28, 2026; separately, Defused reported in-the-wild exploitation of the earlier CVE-2026-6875 (CVSS 9.5), later noting the captured payload matched Searchlight Cyber's PoC.

$1 Million Sandbox Challenge Uncovers Linux Kernel Flaws

Vercel's $1M sandbox challenge surfaced two Linux kernel networking defects—one leaking host kernel memory, one crashing hosts—with CVEs pending.

Vercel ran a two-week, $1 million sandbox escape challenge (Aug 18–Sep 1) on its Firecracker-based microVM sandbox, receiving 1,285 reports and committing ~$325k in payouts (1 Critical, 7 High, 15 Medium, 49 Low validated so far). No attacker accessed real customer data. The most important filing found two independent Linux kernel networking stack defects—one leaks host kernel memory, the other deterministically crashes the host—with wide implications for cloud providers isolating workloads via the same kernel layer. Fixes are under private review with CVEs pending; Vercel also plans to open-source its agentic report-triage agent built on the Eve framework running Kimi K3.

Apache Syncope Vulnerabilities Allow Attackers to Execute Malicious Code and Bypass Controls

Apache Syncope fixed three flaws enabling SQL injection, Groovy sandbox escape, and JWT token theft to impersonate higher-privileged users.

Apache Syncope, an open-source identity management and access governance platform, disclosed CVE-2026-82232, a stacked-query SQL injection in the Task search sort parameter; CVE-2026-77147, a Groovy sandbox escape via malicious Command classes; and CVE-2026-73178, retrieval of signed JWT access tokens via REST enabling impersonation of more privileged users. All three flaws require administrator-level entitlements to exploit and affect Syncope 3.0, 4.0, and 4.1 releases. Fixes shipped in versions 4.0.8 and 4.1.3, with researchers Alon Galili and n0mi1k credited.

CVE-2026-87464: RCE outside sandbox in Chromium prior to 153.0.8010.36

CVE-2026-87464 is a critical use-after-free in Chrome's WebGL allowing sandbox-escaping RCE via crafted HTML pages, fixed in 153.0.8010.36.

Google Chrome prior to 153.0.8010.36 contains a use-after-free in WebGL that allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code outside the sandbox via a crafted HTML page. Google rates it as Chromium security severity Critical, though tracker details are restricted. Debian indicates all current Chromium packages are affected, and the flaw likely impacts Chromium-derived browsers. No active exploitation is mentioned in the disclosure.
