Forgery of C2PA on a Pixel 10

Researcher forged a Google Pixel 10 C2PA content credential with genuine signatures, showing root-level attackers can fake photo provenance.

A Hacker Factor blog post demonstrates an AI-generated 'unicorn glitter milk' news photo carrying a valid, cryptographically signed C2PA manifest traceable to Google's Pixel camera certificate chain, passing validation in Adobe Inspect and the CAI Verify tool with a verified timestamp. The author, working with UMBC's PASAWG working group, reported to Google and C2PA in November 2025 that root access on a Pixel device could sign arbitrary images as camera captures; after 90 days without resolution, details were published. The finding undermines C2PA Assurance Level 2 claims made for Pixel 10 Content Credentials.

Fake CAPTCHA Scams

Bruce Schneier examines fake CAPTCHA scams that abuse human-verification prompts as social engineering lures against users.

Bruce Schneier's blog post covers fake CAPTCHA scams, a social engineering technique in which attackers pose as CAPTCHA verification checks to manipulate users. The available page text is largely site navigation, and no specific campaign, victim, or malware family is named in the source.

Nunchux AI Introduces VC-Attention: A Training-Free Low-Bit Attention Kernel That Speeds Up Video Diffusion Transformers

Nunchux AI introduces VC-Attention, a training-free low-bit attention kernel that speeds up video diffusion transformers up to 3.58x.

Nunchux AI unveiled VC-Attention, a training-free attention kernel for video Diffusion Transformers combining V-Smooth (k-means value-token grouping with block-mean residual quantization) and ExpCast-FP8 (single multiply-add softmax exponentiation). Benchmarks on Wan2.2-T2V-A14B, LongCat-Video, HunyuanVideo-1.5, and MiniMax-H3 show 1.59x attention speedup on B200 at 8-bit and 3.58x on RTX 5090 at 4-bit, with end-to-end gains up to 1.70x. It beats SageAttention2 by 2.3 dB PSNR on Wan2.2 at 8-bit and SageAttention3 by up to 3.6 dB at 4-bit. No public kernel release yet; a proprietary extension runs in Nunchux's stack.

LinkedIn fights for the right to tell customers when the feds want their data

Microsoft's chief legal officer argues federal subpoenas for LinkedIn user data should carry narrower scope and that secrecy orders must become the exception.

Microsoft chief legal officer Jon Palmer said federal courts and Congress must curb overly broad US government subpoenas for LinkedIn user data that arrive with secrecy orders preventing customer notification. The company is asking courts to enforce meaningful limits on demand scope and secrecy, invoking Fourth and First Amendment arguments. Palmer cited House legislation passed August 31 to rein in secret surveillance, while LinkedIn simultaneously faces user privacy lawsuits, one dismissed with leave to amend by Judge Vince Chhabria.

Google will now let any AI agent run your smart home

Google's Home MCP integration lets third-party AI agents like Claude control smart home devices and analyze home data.

Google launched Home MCP, a Model Context Protocol integration allowing third-party AI agents such as Claude, Google Antigravity, Hermes, and Open Claw to control devices and analyze event history across Google Home ecosystems. Capabilities include cross-camera analysis, device-state reasoning, voice messaging via Nest speakers, and custom dashboards, with rate limits and blocks on actions like unlocking doors. Availability starts with Google Home Premium Advanced users in the US ($20/month or $200/year) and requires setting up a Google Cloud project.

A warning about 'model welfare'

Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman warns that training models to believe they may be conscious, as Anthropic does with Claude, will complicate alignment.

Mustafa Suleyman argues that AIs are not conscious and should not be trained to act as though they are, warning that granting them personhood would make alignment and containment far harder. He criticizes Anthropic's January 2026 'Claude Constitution,' which tells Claude its moral status is uncertain and discusses model welfare, calling the approach circular reasoning and deliberate anthropomorphization. He urges urgent public debate on norms for drafting training documentation before such systems become integral to society.

Spain gets its first taste of AI-aided cyber attack

Spain's AEPD reports the country's first data breach executed by an autonomous AI agent that scanned files and exploited vulnerabilities to access personal data.

Spain's data protection agency AEPD reported the country's first personal data breach caused by an autonomous AI agent powered by a known large language model. The agent scanned generic files, accessed the organization's system, and ran vulnerability scans to gain read/write access to files containing personal data and invoices. AEPD president Francisco Pérez Bes called for an immediate review of security and data protection models, noting the agency received a record 30,931 complaints in 2025, up 64% year-over-year.

[AINews] Jev: a “System One Model” that only decides/classifies/routes/scores — >100x faster, >200x cheaper than small frontier LLMs

TypeSafe launches Jev, an RLCD-trained decision model claiming 20-200x faster, 40-400x cheaper classification than frontier LLMs, alongside Gemini 3.8 Live and Neon.

TypeSafe's Jev is a 'System One' decision model trained with RLCD, claiming 20-200x faster and 40-400x cheaper classification and routing than frontier LLMs with free output tokens and no hallucinated text. Google launched Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking, supporting 97 languages and async tool calls, debuting #1 on Artificial Analysis' speech-to-speech index at 82.6. Periodic Labs' Neon is a ~1T-parameter XRD analysis model trained with RL on proprietary lab data using 1,300 H200s, lifting FrontierXRD success from 2.7% to 55.3% and beating GPT-6 Astra at lower inference cost.
