Critical Issabel PBX Command Execution Vulnerability Exploited in the Wild

Unauthenticated attackers exploit CVE-2026-89026 in Issabel PBX via forged JWT tokens to run OS commands; exploitation observed since September 9.

CVE-2026-89026 (CVSS v4 9.3) stems from a hard-coded HS256 JWT signing key in Issabel Framework's pbxapi/index.php, letting unauthenticated attackers forge bearer tokens and execute OS commands through the Asterisk Manager Interface originate endpoint. Issabel Framework versions before commit b97dbaf0b71c1c36f841e672b664afbeb02773bd are affected. Shadowserver Foundation first observed exploitation on September 9, 2026, and VulnCheck added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities database.

CISA promotes a fresh way to deter cyberattackers: Lie to them

CISA issued first-time guidance advising critical infrastructure operators to deploy honeypots, honeytokens, and decoys to detect and distract intruders.

CISA published 'Using Cyber Decoys to Strengthen Detection and Response,' a 22-page guide marking the agency's first guidance on decoys such as honeypots and honeytokens. Acting executive director Chris Butera described decoys as a low-cost, high-fidelity way to detect adversaries already inside networks, complementing zero-trust and assume-compromise approaches. The guidance covers decoy principles, definitions, deployment scenarios, and is aimed especially at resource-constrained critical infrastructure sectors.

A LivePatch is available and offline urgent bundles (R81.20-R82.20 Takes 28-29) were released; Smart-1 Cloud is already protected.

CISA Warns of Critical ScreenConnect Vulnerability Actively Exploited in Attacks

CISA added actively exploited ConnectWise ScreenConnect flaw CVE-2026-84869 to the KEV catalog, setting a September 14 patch deadline.

CISA added CVE-2026-84869, a critical improper privilege management and missing authorization flaw (CWE-269, CWE-862) in ConnectWise ScreenConnect, to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog on September 11, 2026, confirming active exploitation. The flaw lets attackers transfer files to a device and execute them during an active remote ScreenConnect session without authorization or host-user confirmation, enabling payload delivery, unauthorized tools, and persistence while blending into legitimate remote-management traffic. CISA set a September 14 remediation deadline under BOD 26-04 and flagged the vulnerability as requiring forensic triage. ConnectWise has published a security bulletin, and defenders are urged to review exposure, sessions, file-transfer records, and outbound connections.

The true cost of a ransomware attack, with and without BCDR

Ransomware's true cost averages $5.08 million per incident versus a $139,875 median ransom, and mature BCDR strategies with immutable backups cut downtime and recovery expenses.

IBM's Cost of a Data Breach Report 2025 puts the average ransomware incident at $5.08 million, far above the $139,875 median ransom payment cited in Verizon's 2026 DBIR. Datto's State of BCDR Report 2025 found 60% of organizations believed they could recover within a day, but only 35% actually did. The Datto-sponsored piece argues mature BCDR with immutable WORM backups shortens downtime, citing a Techify case that restored 19 TB and returned a client to operations in under two hours without paying a ransom. It also flags compliance deadlines such as GDPR's 72-hour breach notification and the SEC's four-business-day disclosure rule.

Parallels Desktop Vulnerability Lets Non-Admin Mac Users Execute Code as Root

JFrog researchers disclosed CVE-2026-90894, a critical Parallels Desktop local privilege escalation letting non-admin Mac users execute code as root; fixed in 27.0.0.

JFrog researchers found that Parallels Desktop's privileged prl_disp_service daemon on macOS accepts unsigned local clients through a world-writable socket and allows argument injection into a tar command during appliance installation. Injecting the --use-compress-program option makes tar execute an attacker-controlled program as root, and a one-line proof of concept yielded a root shell without needing a running virtual machine. The flaw, dubbed ParaShells, was confirmed in Parallels Desktop 26.4.0 build 57513 on Apple Silicon and is fixed in version 27.0.0. No exploitation in the wild has been reported; administrators should inventory and upgrade affected installations and restrict local account access.

You don’t have to join the hack-back program to inherit its risk

A new US presidential memorandum creates a vetted private hack-back program, leaving participating vendors and their customers with untested legal liability and collateral risks.

The August 12 National Security Presidential Memorandum directs the National Coordination Center, run jointly by DOJ and DHS, to approve covert surveillance and disruptive Cyber Effects Operations by vetted private companies, with a forfeitable bond of at least $1 million required as a contract condition. The analysis argues the criminal shield rests on an untested reading of the CFAA exemption at 18 U.S.C. 1030(f), with no civil safe harbor, no state-law preemption and no foreign-law protection. Non-participating organizations can still inherit risk through shared infrastructure collateral damage, lack of customer disclosure, Lloyd's bulletin Y5381 state-backed attack exclusions, and threat-intelligence pipelines feeding offensive proposals.

Big Tech’s AI safety rift signals disruption and disparity for enterprises

Diverging AI safety stances among major labs will make frontier model access less predictable, pushing enterprises toward routing layers and independent validation.

A public rift among leading AI labs over safety approaches - Meta's Zuckerberg backing neutral evaluators, Dario Amodei urging a slower pace, and Sam Altman calling for collaboration on standards - is creating operational challenges for enterprise IT. Analysts from Gartner and others say divergent vendor release schedules, access tiers, and regional restrictions will make frontier model access less predictable, effectively treating frontier AI as a managed supply with pricing premiums. Recommendations include routing layers between applications and providers, contractual deprecation terms, and independent validation of models before production use.

CVE-2026-92127 (classpath abuse) and CVE-2026-92128 (TOCTOU race on remote JAR loading) could allow arbitrary code execution in the controller JVM, exposing build secrets, credentials, and downstream deployment environments. Other flaws include stored XSS in the Warnings, Coverage, OWASP Dependency-Check and Gitee plugins, SSRF in the Gradle and Bitbucket plugins enabling credential capture, credential exposure via CVE-2026-92130, arbitrary file write via CVE-2026-92137, OAuth token theft, and an open redirect in the Keycloak Authentication Plugin. No exploitation is reported; fixes include Script Security Plugin 1422.v06869826dd9b_.
