NightEagle Hackers Abuse Microsoft Dev Tunnels and GhostContainer to Breach Russian Companies

NightEagle (APT-Q-95) breached Russian firms using stolen VPN credentials, a GhostContainer Exchange backdoor, Dev Tunnels abuse, and DCSync.

Kaspersky's Securelink analysts, via Securelist, documented NightEagle (APT-Q-95) attacks on Russian companies that begin with VPN logins using stolen valid credentials from Cloudflare WARP and European infrastructure. On Exchange servers the group deployed GhostContainer, a .NET backdoor built from public components including Neo-reGeorg tunneling, CVE-2020-0688 logic, and the GhostWebShell class, controlled through Exchange web headers. The operators exposed RDP through Microsoft Dev Tunnels paired with rdp2tcp, staged tools in GitHub repositories, and exploited BlueKeep (CVE-2019-0708) to create admin accounts before running DCSync against Active Directory.

GhostCode Phishing Kit Bypasses Microsoft 365 MFA to Hijack Accounts in 78 Seconds

eSentire identified GhostCode, a phishing kit abusing Microsoft 365 OAuth device-code sign-in to steal tokens and take over accounts in seconds.

eSentire analysts identified GhostCode in late August, a phishing kit that uses business contact-form messages and an NDA pretext to deliver a password-protected HTML attachment leading victims to a Microsoft device-code sign-in. Victims authenticate on legitimate Microsoft pages, letting the kit obtain a Primary Refresh Token in 32 seconds and register three devices in 78 seconds, with residential proxies matching the victim's location. The kit hides its redirect with encrypted addresses, junk data, and scanner-filtering challenges, and uses GHOSTnet-linked infrastructure during device enrolment. eSentire recommends blocking device-code authentication via Conditional Access, invalidating tokens, and reviewing newly enrolled devices.

Google Pixel owners urged to patch actively exploited modem flaw

Google's September 2026 Pixel bulletin fixes 110 vulnerabilities, including CVE-2026-58704, a modem permission bypass under limited targeted exploitation enabling remote privilege escalation.

Google released the September 2026 Pixel Update Bulletin addressing 110 vulnerabilities, including CVE-2026-58704, a high-severity logic error in the cellular modem that allows remote escalation of privilege with no additional execution privileges or user interaction required. Google says there are indications the flaw may be under limited, targeted exploitation; attackers need adjacent network access and some existing foothold on the device, which the bulletin does not explain how to obtain. The fix ships at the 2026-09-05 patch level and appears only in the Pixel-specific bulletin, so other Android vendors do not receive this specific fix.

CenterPoint Energy confirmed via SEC 8-K filing that an unauthorized third party stole customer personal data from an internet-facing system.

Houston-based utility CenterPoint Energy disclosed a breach in a Form 8-K filed September 14, 2026, after an online post claimed to offer a dataset of customer information. US, UK, Dutch Agencies Expose Iranian ‘Chosen Brick’ Surveillance Malware

US, UK, and Dutch agencies warn Iranian state actors deploy Windows surveillance malware 'Chosen Brick' against dissidents, activists, and journalists worldwide.

Joint advisories from US, UK, and Dutch agencies describe Chosen Brick, a Windows surveillance malware active since at least 2025 and used by Iranian state cyber actors to track regime opponents. The malware harvests contacts, emails, and social media messages, persists via registry Run keys, evades Microsoft Defender, and uses per-victim Telegram bot IDs for command-and-control and exfiltration. Operators build rapport on WhatsApp and Telegram posing as acquaintances or support staff, disguising payloads as utility software or fake medical documents. Capabilities include screenshot capture, audio recording, credential theft, secondary payload delivery, and data wiping.

Critical WSO2 Vulnerability Allow Hackers to Gain Full Admin Access

WSO2 discloses CVE-2026-5430 (CVSS 10.0), an unauthenticated JWT authentication bypass allowing admin account takeover across its API management products.

WSO2 disclosed CVE-2026-5430, a critical authentication bypass (CVSS 10.0; 9.8 for single-tenant deployments) in advisory WSO2-2026-5328. The flaw stems from insecure JWT processing: tokens signed with unsupported algorithms bypass authentication checks, potentially granting unauthenticated attackers administrative access. Affected products include WSO2 API Control Plane 4.5.0-4.6.0, API Manager 4.1.0-4.6.0, Traffic Manager 4.5.0-4.6.0, and Universal Gateway 4.5.0-4.6.0. Fixes are available via update levels such as API Manager 4.6.0 update 21 or by migrating to unaffected releases.

Docker Sandboxes Vulnerabilities Let Malicious Guests Escape Workspace and Access Host Files

Docker fixed two symlink-race flaws in Docker Sandboxes, CVE-2026-77179 and CVE-2026-79994, letting malicious guests escape the workspace and read host files; fixed in 0.42.0.

Docker patched CVE-2026-77179 (Critical) and CVE-2026-79994 (High) in Docker Sandboxes 0.42.0, released September 7. Both are time-of-check-to-time-of-use symlink races: CVE-2026-77179 in the macOS virtio-fs host server (versions 0.28.0 to before 0.42.0) can allow a malicious guest to read or modify arbitrary host files and potentially achieve code execution, while CVE-2026-79994 in the guest-to-host Unix socket relay (0.37.0 to before 0.42.0) can redirect host connections to arbitrary AF_UNIX sockets. Docker recommends upgrading and, as interim mitigation, using clone mode and avoiding read-write host mounts.

Critical HPE Vulnerabilities Allow Remote Attackers to Achieve Complete System Compromise

HPE patched critical EdgeConnect SD-WAN flaws, including CVSS 9.8 unauthenticated API bypass and gateway RCE, enabling full system compromise.

HPE Security Bulletin HPESBNW05135 covers critical flaws in EdgeConnect SD-WAN Orchestrator and Gateways: CVE-2026-76669 and CVE-2026-76670 (CVSS 9.9 authorization bypass/privilege escalation), CVE-2026-76672 (CVSS 9.9, leaks third-party API tokens and credentials), CVE-2026-76673 (CVSS 9.8, unauthenticated Orchestrator API authentication bypass granting administrative privileges), and CVE-2026-76674 (CVSS 9.8, unauthenticated buffer overflow enabling arbitrary code execution on gateways). Fixes are available in ECOS 9.7.1.0/9.6.4.0/9.5.9.0/9.4.9.0 and Orchestrator 9.7.1/9.6.4/9.5.9/9.4.11 or later. HPE reported no public exploit code or active exploitation at publication and recommends isolating management interfaces on a dedicated VLAN.
