Building a Linux GPU Driver for the M4 Mac Mini in One Month

Two developers built a fully OpenGL ES 3.0 compliant Linux GPU driver for the M4 Mac Mini in one month via clean-room reverse engineering.

Niklas and the author reverse engineered Apple's AGX GPU firmware ABI and user-space components in about a month, a process that normally takes years, producing an OpenGL ES 3.0 conformant driver fast enough to run Minecraft at 200fps on an M4 Mac Mini. The work was done transparently using hypervisor traces without examining Apple binaries, following clean-room practices, and included a custom shader compiler, command stream builder, and a full Linux kernel driver for the firmware ABI. The A18 Pro firmware ABI proved significantly more complex than the M1's, with 1.5x as many structs and twice as many pointers. All experiments and provenance evidence were published in public agx-re repositories.

Homebrew 7.0.0 gets built-in GUI, better security controls

Homebrew 7.0.0 adds a built-in vulnerability scanner (brew vulns), a Homebrew advisory database, stronger sandboxing, and the BrewUI GUI.

Homebrew 7.0.0 ships a native BrewUI graphical interface for macOS 26 Tahoe and later, plus a new 'brew vulns' command that queries OSV.dev in batch to flag vulnerabilities in installed formulae, specific packages, or Brewfile dependencies. The release also introduces a Homebrew-specific OSV-format advisory database distinguishing outstanding vulnerabilities from backported fixes. Sandbox improvements block home directory access by default and separate network-enabled dependency downloads from offline installs.

Hackers Got Inside a Flock Camera. Its Data Shows How the System Really Works

Hackers stole a Flock Safety camera, copied its storage, and recovered an encryption key exposing vehicle surveillance data and system internals.

Hackers from the collective stegan0gram removed a Flock Safety license plate reader from a roadway, copied its storage, and recovered an encryption key stored in an unencrypted partition, unlocking videos of thousands of vehicle detections. The data, shared with 404 Media, WIRED, and Distributed Denial of Secrets, shows the camera generated roughly 1.6 million images of about 50,200 vehicles over 21 days and detects people, bicycles, and bumper stickers in addition to license plates. The dump follows 2025 research by Jon 'GainSec' Gaines documenting flaws enabling root access, which Flock downplayed. Flock's national network makes camera records searchable by more than 2,000 agencies, fueling controversy over police and immigration lookups.

ZDI's review of Apple's September 2026 security updates catalogs dozens of CVEs across macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and other platforms. CVE-2026-65400 (CVSS 9.8) lets a network attacker authenticate to Screen Sharing Server without valid credentials and is flagged as KEV, while CVE-2026-65414 (CVSS 9.8) enables remote code execution via Bluetooth. The set also includes 8.8-rated memory corruption flaws in WebKit, WebRTC, CUPS, ImageIO and the kernel, plus sandbox escapes, privilege escalations to root, and arbitrary code execution via crafted files.

Acronis backup plugin flaw exploited in targeted attacks (CVE-2026-87886)

Acronis warns CVE-2026-87886, an authenticated Linux privilege escalation flaw in its cPanel, WHM, and Plesk backup plugins, is under limited targeted exploitation; patches released.

Acronis disclosed CVE-2026-87886, a privilege escalation vulnerability caused by insecure file permissions in its backup plugins for cPanel, WHM, and Plesk, platforms popular among hosting providers and MSPs. Exploitation has been detected in the wild in limited, targeted attacks against cPanel & WHM deployments, with no exploitation observed on Plesk so far, and the low-complexity attack requires no user interaction. Fixes shipped last week: backup plugin version 1.9.3 HF3 for cPanel & WHM and extension version 1.8.11 for Plesk.

Microsoft Releases Emergency Windows 11 Update Following Patch Tuesday Bugs

Microsoft issued emergency Windows 11 update KB5129195 to fix Patch Tuesday regressions and fully close the CVE-2026-62721 privilege escalation flaw.

Microsoft shipped out-of-band cumulative update KB5129195 for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 (builds 26100.9457 and 26200.9457) after the September 8 Patch Tuesday rollup, which addressed over 960 CVEs including two actively exploited flaws, broke Remote Desktop Services, Hyper-V Plan9 folder sharing, and USB audio. The emergency release also strengthens the incomplete fix for CVE-2026-62721, an elevation-of-privilege flaw in the Windows User-Mode Power Service that could let a local attacker gain SYSTEM privileges. Companion patches cover Windows 11 26H1, Windows 10, and Windows Server. Some USB Audio Class 1.0 and AMD Radeon graphics issues remain unresolved.

You Shall Not Pass into Ring-0! A User Privacy-Friendly Anti-Cheat Architecture for Personal Computers

Tirith replaces invasive kernel-level game anti-cheats with protected VMs and a dual-trusted virtualization monitor, preserving detection and near-native performance.

Researchers present Tirith, an anti-cheat architecture that runs video games in Protected Virtual Machines, sandboxing computations from untrusted root admins, and uses a virtualization monitor trusted by both players and developers to watch for malicious drivers. This removes the need for privacy-invasive ring-0 kernel anti-cheat components while matching their protection against a wide range of cheating mechanisms. To overcome VM stack limitations, the work contributes a security-focused Library OS kernel for games and an efficient graphics sharing pipeline for near-native rendering performance.

Manhattan DA seized 12 domains hosting nonconsensual celebrity deepfake videos depicting about 1,200 victims, the largest such takedown to date.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office seized 12 domains used for sharing and selling nonconsensual deepfake sexual videos, depicting around 1,200 people, mostly women, including influencers, politicians, and celebrities. The seizures under New York criminal procedure law represent the largest takedown of explicit deepfake websites to date, aided by the US Take It Down Act. Much of the content appeared to be reposts from the MrDeepFakes platform, and investigations into operators and uploaders are ongoing.

AsyncRAT Malware Abuses AutoIt and PowerShell to Hide Inside Legitimate Windows Process

Point Wild details a five-stage AsyncRAT campaign using AutoIt abuse and process injection to hide a .NET RAT inside Microsoft's signed charmap.exe.

Researchers at Point Wild Threat Intelligence analyzed a campaign starting from a lure batch file ('Right-click to open Invoice Details.bat') that launches hidden PowerShell to reconstruct a Base64/XOR-obfuscated payload. The stage drops a renamed signed AutoIt interpreter and loader script into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Temp and achieves persistence via a batch file in the user's Startup folder (T1547.001). The loader decrypts the payload in memory with single-byte XOR key 0x36 and injects it into SysWOW64\charmap.exe using OpenProcess/VirtualAllocEx/WriteProcessMemory/CreateRemoteThread, with PE-sieve confirming an in-memory implanted PE and patched AMSI modules. The final AsyncRAT payload performs screen capture and data theft, with observed C2 at 158[.]51[.]122[.]136:4944 over raw TCP.
