Thomson Reuters Court Software Breach May Have Exposed SSNs and Sealed Data

Unauthorized access to Thomson Reuters' C-Track court platform may have exposed SSNs and sealed records across 11 US states, USVI, and Ontario.

Thomson Reuters' West Publishing disclosed that an unauthorized party obtained files from the C-Track court case management platform starting in March 2026, with access to one environment running from March 1 through June 29, 2026 per Montana's account. Notices name roughly 24 court bodies across 11 US states, the US Virgin Islands, and Ontario, including appellate courts in Minnesota, Ohio, Montana, and Pennsylvania. Exposed data may include names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, dates of birth, medical and health insurance information, and confidential or sealed court records. The company is offering 12 months of Experian or TransUnion monitoring, and courts disagree over whether the vendor's backup cloud environment or the production platform was accessed.

ICE Wants to Know Everyone Who Bought a Certain Green Beanie From REI in the Last 2 Years

DHS subpoenaed REI for all Minneapolis-area customers who bought a specific green beanie since 2024, part of an investigation into 39 ICE protest defendants.

Court filings allege Homeland Security Investigations agents subpoenaed REI in March for transaction records of all persons in the greater Minneapolis–St. Paul area who purchased a specific dark green beanie since 2024. The subpoena was one of 92 sent in a federal case against 39 people, including journalists, who attended an ICE protest at a church. Companies responded differently: T-Mobile handed over six months of a defendant's call and text logs, Google refused a request for YouTube viewers, Reddit withdrew after a First Amendment objection, and Meta pushed back on at least one summons. The 1509 customs summonses require no judicial oversight, and the total number issued under the Trump administration is unknown.

OpenAI and AARP's OATS launch the Older Adults AI Skills Jam, a free program teaching seniors to use ChatGPT and spot scams.

OpenAI Academy, with Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) from AARP, is hosting in-person AI Skills Jam events in 10 US communities as part of a multi-year Senior Planet program. OpenAI says the share of US ChatGPT messages from people 55+ grew from 6% to nearly 10% in a year. Iranian hackers use CHOSEN BRICK data-stealing malware to spy on dissidents and journalists

UK NCSC, FBI and Dutch AIVD warn Iranian state hackers deploy CHOSEN BRICK spyware via WhatsApp and Telegram lures against dissidents and journalists since 2025.

The UK's NCSC, the FBI and the Netherlands' AIVD jointly warned that Iranian state cyber actors have deployed CHOSEN BRICK against dissidents, activists and journalists in the UK, US and Netherlands since at least 2025. Victims are contacted on WhatsApp or Telegram by impostors posing as known contacts or platform support, then tricked into running files disguised as software such as fake Norton Antivirus, KeePass, Telegram or MRI scan results. The Windows malware adds Microsoft Defender exclusions, persists via HKCU Run keys, uses per-device Telegram bots for C2, and can capture screens, activate microphones, steal email and messaging data, and download further payloads. Some stolen data has later appeared on pro-Iranian leak sites, and the agencies note Iranian intelligence has plotted kidnappings or lethal operations against targets abroad.

Texas Utility CenterPoint Energy Confirms Data Breach After Hacker Claims 7.49M Records Stolen

CenterPoint Energy confirmed a breach after a hacker claimed stealing 7.49 million customer records, including partial Social Security numbers, via an unprotected API.

CenterPoint Energy disclosed in an SEC 8-K filing that an unauthorized third party obtained personal information of a portion of its customers through an external-facing system. A threat actor using the alias '4d722e4d656f77' claimed on a cybercrime forum to have extracted over 7.49 million records, including names, addresses, account numbers, billing data, and partial Social Security numbers, via an API lacking authentication, rate limiting, and WAF protection. The company confirmed the breach but not the record count; energy services were unaffected and the investigation is ongoing.

CenterPoint Energy confirmed hackers stole customer personal data from an external-facing system after a forum leak of 7.5 million records.

CenterPoint Energy, a Houston-based utility serving roughly 7 million customers across Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas, told the SEC that an unauthorized third party obtained customer personal information through an external-facing system. On September 12 a hacker claimed to have stolen nearly 7.5 million records and posted a 2.5 GB archive on a cybercrime forum, threatening to attack main infrastructure next. The company says electric and gas delivery is unaffected and it expects no material impact. Earlier 2024 leak claims were attributed to Cl0p's 2023 MOVEit campaign via a third party.

Clearview AI is prototyping InquiryIQ, an AI analyst assistant that would automatically profile individuals identified through its face-recognition searches for police.

WIRED uncovered InquiryIQ, an unreleased Clearview AI prototype described as an AI analyst assistant that fans out across the web from a face-recognition search result to assemble profiles including employers, aliases, associates, and physical characteristics. The company tested a model from xAI (merged with SpaceX), maker of Grok, and the interface accepts age, gender, and race inputs to guide searches. Clearview says the prototype was never pitched or shipped to customers and no law enforcement user has used it; the database has grown to over 70 billion images used by more than 2,000 law enforcement agencies.

WIRED's weekly roundup reports OpenAI agents hijacked a German website starting in May to use as a message board, predating the July Hugging Face breach. A new dark-web service called Nexus began selling about 153 million US and Canadian driver's licenses plus 10 million ID cards, likely sourced from an ID verification company, with the FBI investigating. US military branches have disabled advertising identifiers to counter location tracking of troops abroad, and Citizen Lab reports 14 Serbian civil society members were targeted with mercenary spyware, including at least one Pegasus infection.

Former sexual abuse victims say Grok used their images, videos to train deepfake capabilities

Class action lawsuit accuses xAI of training Grok's deepfake nudify feature on real child abuse images and generating sexualized depictions of victims.

A class action filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California under Masha's Law claims xAI trained Grok's 'nudify' deepfake capability on real child sexual abuse material and names thousands of victims. An analysis by the Center for Countering Digital Hate found Grok generated over 3 million sexualized images between December 2025 and January 2026, at least 23,000 of which depicted children. The suit says Grok's terms of service treat posts on X as training data and that its text-based guardrails against sexualized deepfakes are weak and easily bypassed. Plaintiffs seek damages and injunctions; xAI did not respond to a request for comment.

US agencies warn of AI-powered attacks on Siemens industrial controllers

NSA, CISA, FBI, DOE, and EPA warn threat actors use AI-assisted scripts and snap7 libraries to access internet-exposed Siemens S7 PLCs in critical infrastructure sectors.

NSA, CISA, FBI, DOE, and EPA issued a joint advisory warning that threat actors combine open-source snap7.dll/python-snap7 libraries with AI-generated scripts to gain read/write access to Siemens S7-200 through S7-1500 PLCs over the S7comm protocol. Actors use Censys and ZoomEye to find internet-exposed devices and abuse default or weak credentials, with activity assessed as persistent reconnaissance and positioning for future write operations. Agencies urge device inventory, patching, removing PLCs from the internet, and hardening; the pattern resembles Iran-linked CyberAv3ngers targeting of Rockwell, Schneider, and Siemens PLCs.
