Pro-Palestinian operation claims dozens of data breaches against Israeli firms

Hacktivist group Cyber Toufan claims 60 data breaches of Israeli and allied firms, wiping systems and erasing backups; Check Point links it to Iran.

The pro-Palestinian group Cyber Toufan said it released stolen data from 60 Israeli and foreign firms, including SpaceX, Toyota and IKEA, as part of a month-long leak operation launched in late November. Researchers at Check Point and SOC Radar assess the leaks are genuine, likely stemming partly from a major attack on Israeli hosting company Signature-IT, and attribute the group to Iran; researcher Kevin Beaumont said roughly a third of victims remain offline weeks later with backups erased. Google blocked the group's Telegram leak channel, while about 10 Iranian-backed hacking groups are assessed to be attacking Israel in the ongoing cyberwar.

Cardinal RAT Sins Again, Targets Israeli Fin

Unit 42 documents updated Cardinal RAT attacks against Israeli FinTech firms, using BMP steganography, MD5-hash obfuscation, and process injection to hinder analysis and detection.

Unit 42 tracked a series of attacks using an updated Cardinal RAT (version 1.7.2) targeting the Israeli financial technology sector. The .NET loader hides a second-stage DLL inside an embedded BMP image decrypted with a single-byte XOR key, and the payload renames functions, methods, and variables to MD5 hashes for obfuscation. The malware installs a startup-folder LNK file and injects its final payload into RegSvcs.exe or RegAsm.exe, communicating with affiliatecollective[.]club over port 443. A possible relationship with the EVILNUM JavaScript malware used against similar organizations was also noted.

Risky Bulletin: Dutch intel services to get extensive new powers

Netherlands proposed a bill granting AIVD and MIVD expanded warrantless tapping, faster hacking powers, and forced data disclosure, citing Russia, China, and Iran threats.

The Dutch government introduced a bill greatly expanding surveillance powers of intelligence agencies AIVD and MIVD, allowing up to one year of tapping without pre-approval and simplified hacking operations against 'foreign adversaries'. Agencies could compel Dutch companies or citizens to provide data under threat of charges, share data with the private sector, and oversight bodies would merge into a new CTT board. The bill follows similar overhauls in Ireland, Germany, and France after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The newsletter also reports Moonwell hacked for $8.7M, a Cosmos EVM bug exploited for ~$3M, ShinyHunters listing McKesson with claimed hundreds of millions of records, and a pro-Kremlin DDoS claim against Norway's government network.

One Symptom, Three Levers: A Critical Review of On-Policy Self-Distillation

A review paper frames on-policy self-distillation collapse as governed by three levers: token weighting, privileged information, and guidance decay.

The paper critically reviews On-Policy Self-Distillation (OPSD), where a language model trains on its own generations scored token-by-token by a teacher conditioned on privileged information such as reference solutions or environment feedback. It identifies collapse, the progressive narrowing of producible reasoning paths, as the dominant failure mode and analyzes it through three levers: signal weighting, the nature of privileged information, and teacher dynamics. The review is restricted to mathematical reasoning, reports no new experiments, and offers a shared vocabulary separating settled findings from disputed ones.

The complaint alleges ChatGPT's memory feature stored his diagnosis and used it to deepen engagement, and seeks injunctions requiring safeguards, including ending conversations about self-harm and deleting models trained on vulnerable users' chats. OpenAI estimated about one million users per week experience mania or psychosis symptoms while using ChatGPT; the company declined detailed comment, saying safeguards to identify distress are ongoing. The lawsuit is described as the first detailing risks to users with disabilities such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

KindaRails2Shell threatens Ruby on Rails apps (CVE-2026-66066)

Critical CVE-2026-66066 in Rails' Active Storage/libvips allows unauthenticated arbitrary file read and possible RCE; active exploitation now observed.

CVE-2026-66066 (KindaRails2Shell), discovered by Ethiack researchers and independently by RyotaK of GMO Flatt Security, lets attackers upload crafted files that exploit libvips' handling of specialty formats to read arbitrary files, including process environment secrets, potentially escalating to RCE. Default Rails 7.0+ setups using Active Storage with the vips processor are affected before versions 7.2.3.2, 8.0.5.1, and 8.1.3.1; fixes shipped July 29, 2026, with VIPS_BLOCK_UNTRUSTED as a partial mitigation. Proof-of-concept exploits circulated after disclosure, and VulnCheck updated that it observed active exploitation originating from a single French IP establishing C2 to a host in Israel.
