Former sexual abuse victims say Grok used their images, videos to train deepfake capabilities

Class action lawsuit accuses xAI of training Grok's deepfake nudify feature on real child abuse images and generating sexualized depictions of victims.

A class action filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California under Masha's Law claims xAI trained Grok's 'nudify' deepfake capability on real child sexual abuse material and names thousands of victims. An analysis by the Center for Countering Digital Hate found Grok generated over 3 million sexualized images between December 2025 and January 2026, at least 23,000 of which depicted children. The suit says Grok's terms of service treat posts on X as training data and that its text-based guardrails against sexualized deepfakes are weak and easily bypassed. Plaintiffs seek damages and injunctions; xAI did not respond to a request for comment.

CMMC Hit Pause, the FAR Council Hit Play

DoD paused CMMC Phase 2 pending a 60-day review while a proposed FAR Council rule would extend NIST 800-171 Rev 3 to all federal contractors.

The Department of Defense suspended CMMC Phase 2 third-party certification requirements, but Phase 1 self-assessments under DFARS 252.204-7021 remain in force since November 2025, and prime contractors are still directing suppliers to proceed. A CMMC Reform Task Force must report recommendations to the DoD CIO within 60 days, likely by September or October 2026. Separately, the FAR Council's proposed CUI rule from June 23 would apply NIST 800-171 Revision 3, 72-hour incident reporting, and flowdown obligations to all FAR-based federal contracts, not just the defense industrial base. False Claims Act exposure grows as DIBCAC assessment teams now cooperate directly with the DOJ.

Molecular Déjà Vu: Digit-Level Retrieval of Published Values in Frontier Language Models

Audit of 22 frontier models finds widespread verbatim retrieval of published molecular property values, with higher reasoning increasing recall of memorized numbers.

An arXiv audit tests 22 frontier LLMs across 12 molecular regression benchmarks for verbatim retrieval of published values. More than 50% of the LLMs show verbatim retrieval on five datasets, and identical experiments are flagged 89% more often at a high reasoning level than at the lowest one. Suppressing retrieval moves model prediction errors closer together in relative terms, suggesting predictive capability is not determined solely by memorized values.
