Revolut confirms customer data breach through fake government requests

Revolut disclosed customer identity data, including passports and possibly selfies, to an attacker using a legitimate government email domain.

Attackers impersonating a government agency used a legitimate agency email domain to submit fraudulent information requests, prompting Revolut to disclose customer identity and contact data to an unauthorized third party. Exposed data included birth dates, postal and email addresses, phone numbers, passport and driver's license copies, and possibly verification selfies, account statements, and transaction histories. Revolut said a limited number of customers were affected, blocked the email address, and notified the agency, law enforcement, and regulators, adding that systems and customer funds were unaffected. ShinyHunters claims Florida DMV breach, puts data on the clock

ShinyHunters claims it breached Florida DMV's DAVID database, stole 200,000+ driver records including SSNs, and set a September 11 extortion deadline.

The ShinyHunters extortion group claims it breached the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' DAVID driver and vehicle database and stole more than 200,000 records. As evidence it published a screenshot of a Jeffrey Epstein record showing address, Social Security number, date of birth, license number and registered vehicles, and set a September 11 deadline before publication. The group says it obtained access through a password-reset weakness, compromised employee accounts, and queried and downloaded driver records and images. The Florida DMV has not confirmed the claim; it follows a separate confirmed IDScan.net breach exposing over 153 million license scans that prompted an FBI investigation.

Revolut handed customer data to fraudsters using government email account

Revolut handed sensitive KYC data of high-net-worth crypto customers to fraudsters submitting fake emergency data requests from a compromised government email domain.

Revolut confirmed it disclosed sensitive customer data—including passport and driver's license copies, verification selfies, bank statements, IBANs, and Bitcoin transaction histories—to attackers who submitted fraudulent emergency data requests from a legitimate government agency email account, apparently an Italian domain. Targets were high-net-worth individuals involved in crypto, including Marc Karpelès and entrepreneur Marc Zeller. A Telegram account claiming responsibility posted stolen data as proof and demanded an extortion payment; the account has since been suspended. Revolut says only a limited number of customers were affected and has alerted the relevant government agency, law enforcement, and regulators. The technique mirrors 2021-2022 Lapsus$-linked fraudulent emergency data request scams against Apple, Meta, and Discord.

CenterPoint Energy confirms customer data stolen in cyberattack

CenterPoint Energy confirms attackers stole customer personal data, with a threat actor leaking 7.49 million records scraped from an unprotected API.

CenterPoint Energy, a utility serving about 7 million metered customers across Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, and Texas, confirmed in an SEC filing that an unauthorized third party obtained customer personal information via an external-facing system. A threat actor using the alias "4d722e4d656f77" leaked 7.49 million records containing names, phone numbers, service and billing addresses, account numbers, billing amounts, and partial Social Security numbers. Prophet Security's State of AI in Security Operations 2026 report, based on a survey of 250+ cybersecurity professionals, found 40% of security teams use AI daily and only 4% have no adoption plans. Teams average 100 daily alerts (up to 1,000 at large firms), leave 28% of alerts uninvestigated, and 60% of respondents said missed alerts led to breaches or downtime. Among AI adopters, 72% report at least 25% faster investigations, 56% observed increased AI-driven attacks, and no respondents grant AI full unsupervised autonomy. Data privacy (44%) and explainability (41%) top the adoption hurdles.

18 ways to check whether data can be trusted for AI

ETSI published TR 104 180 defining 18 data quality metrics, including fairness and privacy, to assess whether datasets are fit for AI.

ETSI's technical report TR 104 180 defines 18 metrics across four groups - intrinsic quality, usability and lineage, fairness, and privacy - each with calculation formulas, plus an open-source tool that scores datasets. Testing on an aircraft engine sensor dataset and a US census dataset revealed a roughly threefold gender gap in high earners (about 31% of men versus 11% of women) and two privacy failures: re-identification via age, race, sex, and country, and sensitive fields stored in plaintext. The working group included Sejong University, EGM, TTA, Daejeon University, and CNIT.

Security Data Isn’t the Problem. Security Context Is.

Horizon3 blog argues security context, not data volume, is the SOC bottleneck, promoting its NodeZero integration with CrowdStrike Falcon Next-Gen SIEM.

Horizon3.ai published a vendor blog explaining how its NodeZero Proactive Security Platform integration with CrowdStrike Falcon Next-Gen SIEM brings validated exposure findings into existing security operations workflows. The post argues SOCs are now limited by confidence rather than visibility, needing context to decide which issues matter. It cites a global chemical manufacturer that validated exploitable exposures with NodeZero before completing a $2 billion merger.
