Apple’s new iPhone camera mode promises to prove your photo isn’t AI

Apple's iPhone 18 Pro adds a Reference Image mode that cryptographically signs camera sensor pixels to prove photos were not AI-generated or edited.

Apple will launch a Reference Image mode with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, using the new camera sensor to sign every pixel and develop the signed data via Private Cloud Compute into an unalterable reference image viewable in Photos. Users can compare the reference image against edited versions to verify authenticity, building on provenance standards like SynthID, C2PA, and Meta's Content Seal. A Reference Image API will span iOS, iPadOS, and macOS for third-party apps, though the feature launches without EU support, arriving there in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27.

GhostCode Abuses Microsoft Entra Device Enrollment to Maintain Access After Token Revocation

eSentire exposes GhostCode, a device-code phishing kit that abuses Microsoft Entra device enrollment to persist even after stolen tokens are revoked.

eSentire's Threat Response Unit observed GhostCode campaigns in late August 2026, using BEC-style social engineering that impersonated procurement staff, including BJ's Wholesale Club, via Salesforce contact forms. Victims received password-protected HTML lures disguised as a FlipBook document portal, with junk-data padding, HTML comment injection, and AES-256-GCM encrypted redirects gated by anti-bot checks. The kit exploits the OAuth 2.0 device authorization grant, prompting victims to approve real Microsoft device-code sign-ins with MFA. Within 78 seconds of approval, attackers registered three Entra devices and obtained a Primary Refresh Token, so rogue device registrations persist even after session token revocation.

New N0va Phishkit Targets North America and EU: A Growing Identity Risk for SOCs

ANY.RUN researchers uncovered the N0va phishkit targeting government, technology, consulting, and healthcare organizations across North America and the EU via device code phishing.

The N0va phishkit uses lures imitating Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, DocuSign, Google Drive, Dropbox, Zoom, and Adobe Sign to draw victims into a device code authentication flow. After the user completes legitimate authentication, N0va captures access and refresh tokens and abuses token-exchange and device-registration mechanisms to establish persistent SSO access to corporate resources. Because the flow relies on real Microsoft authentication, it can evade MFA-focused detections, and token access can outlive takedown of the phishing page. ANY.RUN says it observed the campaign in sandbox sessions, with targeting spanning government, technology, consulting, and healthcare sectors.

US military disabled ad tracking on troops’ devices following reports of targeted attacks

US DoD disabled ad tracking on troops' devices after foreign adversaries targeted service members using commercially bought location data.

Per letters shared with Senator Ron Wyden, the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command disabled advertising IDs on iPhones, Android devices, and Windows computers across the federal military enterprise. The protections rolled out earlier in 2026, with the Air Force implementing changes in July, to prevent adversaries from exploiting app-derived location data sold through data brokers. Wyden warned that personal devices brought onto military bases could still expose troops and facilities, and noted the intelligence community and FBI buy such data without warrants.

CrossLink: Breaking Location Privacy by Linking Device Identifiers Across Protocols

Researchers present CrossLink, a passive tracing algorithm linking temporary device identifiers across LTE, WiFi, and BLE, reconstructing full traces for 83% of simulated users.

Smartphones emit temporary identifiers simultaneously over LTE, WiFi, and BLE, and per-protocol randomization defenses implicitly assume their protections compose across protocols. CrossLink is an uncertainty-aware tracing algorithm that stitches device identifiers across time, space, and protocols even when the adversary is fully passive and rotations are unsynchronized. In large-scale mobility simulation it reconstructs full traces for 83% of users versus 22% for the best single-protocol baseline. It remains effective under partial sniffer coverage, including strategically placed sniffers near LTE handover regions, mobile sniffers, and limited high-coverage subregions.

Researchers Turn USB Auto-Install Into a Full SYSTEM Takeover on Windows 11

DEF CON researchers chained Windows Plug and Play auto-install abuse with third-party driver flaws to reach SYSTEM on fully updated Windows 11.

In 'Plug And Pwn' research prepared for DEF CON 34, Alejandro Hernando and Borja Martinez emulated USB devices so Windows auto-installed signed vendor software, chaining a Sierra Wireless SwiService.exe SetDNS primitive, a Sony FeliCa co-installer path-traversal flaw that writes a DLL into System32, and device reconnection for SYSTEM code execution. A remote variant over Remote Desktop forges a synthetic Intel RealSense device and abuses a CRYPTBASE.dll search-order hijack when PnP or low-level USB redirection is enabled. Microsoft notes RDP does not allow supported PnP and RemoteFX USB redirection by default, and no in-the-wild exploitation has been reported.

Apple Reference Image: A New Approach for Verified Photography

Apple introduces Reference Image, hardware-backed verifiable photography on iPhone 18 Pro using sensor signing and Private Cloud Compute to counter AI-generated fakes.

Apple announced Reference Image, an opt-in camera mode debuting on the main sensor of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max that produces securely timestamped, verifiable photographs. The design splits into two phases: a secure digital negative created by cryptographically signing pixel data at the sensor immediately after capture (preventing injection or tampering), then developing that negative into a reference image. Private Cloud Compute handles processing without exposing image contents to anyone, including Apple, and fraudulent reference images can be revoked without revealing the photographer's identity. Apple positions the system as stronger than C2PA-based approaches, which sign metadata after capture, are vulnerable to editing-chain compromise, and can tie images to a device or individual.

LG TV shown scanning LAN for third-party phones and other devices

Security researchers showed LG OLED TVs scan local networks and collect nearby device details, raising privacy concerns for TV owners.

Gamers Nexus, working with Level1Techs and security researchers, used packet captures and Wireshark to show that LG TVs, including the $2,500 OLED65G3PUA and the G5 OLED, scan the local network for phones, smartwatches, and other unconnected devices. The TV's firmware can identify the user's IP address, nearby Wi-Fi network names and signal strength, neighboring channel numbers, and internal IP addresses of other devices. LG Ad Solutions marketing claims reach of 363 million 'addressable secondary devices' in the US, and LG says the scanning supports device connectivity and smart home features. It remains unclear whether the collected data is transmitted to LG for purposes beyond advertising.

ZK-Trace: Certified Collusion Tracing with Zero-Knowledge Credentials for Federated GNSS Interference Monitoring

ZK-Trace combines Tardos fingerprints and zero-knowledge credentials to trace leaked classifier copies in federated GNSS monitoring without leaker cooperation.

ZK-Trace addresses leakage of a proprietary classifier distributed to partly trusted stations in federated GNSS interference monitoring, combining public identity marks, recipient-specific Tardos fingerprints, and zero-knowledge credential verification to support offline tracing. The paper provides false-accusation and tracing-score bounds with an interval-arithmetic checker allocating a common budget across accusation and tamper decisions. In a simulated GNSS federation it isolates all 160 single-owner copies and traces 712 of 720 two-owner mixtures with a 0.001 false-naming budget, while feature marks survive feature matching in 20/20 runs at 4.8 percentage-point accuracy cost but are erased by function-only distillation.
