VectraRAT Malware-as-a-Service Lets Hackers Bypass UAC and Hijack Windows Systems

New VectraRAT malware-as-a-service at $250/month combines RAT capabilities, credential theft, clipboard hijacking, and a UACME-based UAC bypass; 38 victims observed.

VectraRAT is a previously undocumented MaaS platform with a Go-based VectraHub Linux C2 server embedding a Vue3 operator panel and a C++ Windows implant, rented from $250/month and linked to the aliases Vectra and Nyxel. It communicates over TCP port 3308 via a proprietary MessagePack protocol, steals browser and file-based credentials, and abuses UACME method 41 with debug-object handle hijacking via winver.exe and computerdefaults.exe. SOCRadar identified 38 live victim sessions in one week, 48% on corporate Windows editions, with delivery via the Amadey loader and ClickFix pages impersonating TurboTax.

A Malicious SIM Card Can Run Attacker Code Inside the Modems Behind Cellular IoT Devices

Researchers showed malicious SIM cards can issue RUN AT commands to execute code on Qualcomm modems, compromising Quectel-based cellular IoT devices like EV chargers.

Researchers at the University of Birmingham and Fuzzware found 9 of 26 tested devices accept SIM proactive commands, including six Qualcomm-based cellular modules, five of them Quectel. They achieved code execution on a commercial Autel EV charger via the Quectel EC25's atfwd_daemon unsafe format string, and demonstrated an irreversible 2G downgrade, modem power-off, and arbitrary file reads via a root TFTP daemon on a Quectel EG25-G. Attacks require a hostile SIM already in the slot or an interposer; no attacks have been reported in the wild. Qualcomm has built a hardened configuration disabling the interface by default and Quectel mitigated the file-access flaw; the paper was presented at USENIX WOOT.

GuardBreaker: Derailing AI-assisted malware analysis with a code comment

ESET researchers observed the Russia-aligned group UAC-0099 inserting a decoy prompt injection into a VBScript used to install its MATCHBOIL loader in an attack against a Ukrainian target, aiming to make LLM-based code scanners refuse and stop inspecting the file. The comment triggers safety guardrails with a request about building a nuclear weapons but has no runtime effect. Similar LLM-thwarting tricks have appeared in malicious PyPI and npm packages reported by Socket and StepSecurity. An Empirical Analysis of CodeQL False Positives and Query Refinements for Java Vulnerabilities

Study of 167 Java CVE instances finds CodeQL false positives follow recurring patterns; query refinements remove 81.8% of reviewed ones.

Researchers ran CodeQL's Java security query suite on 167 CVE instances from 110 projects, manually reviewing 500 sampled false-positive paths and building a five-category taxonomy led by Missed Path Constraint or Sanitization (36.6%), Benign Execution Context (29.4%), and Missing Trust Boundary Modeling (27.6%). Guided by the taxonomy, query-level refinements removed 81.8% of reviewed false positives and 15.8% of reported paths across the selected queries while retaining 7 of 8 true positives. To address generalization, agentic coding tools given the refinement patterns as templates adapted them to new projects successfully in 56% and 62% of tasks, versus 28% without guidance.

CoVeR: Coverage-Based Token Pruning for Multi-View 3D Reasoning in VLMs

Think Before You Link: Rarity, Reasoning, and Retrieval in Multilingual Entity Linking

Training-free reasoning-plus-retrieval framework lifts multilingual multimodal entity linking accuracy by 6.9% overall and up to 23.3% on rare entities.

The paper broadens rarity measurement in multimodal entity linking using knowledge-graph structural metrics beyond popularity-based pageview metrics, identifying many rare entities that popularity metrics miss. Across these rare-entity slices, state-of-the-art accuracy drops by 15.4-39.9%, exposing distinct failure modes under different rarity definitions. When Should LLMs Abstain? Chain-of-Self-Questioning for Selective Risk Control

ToolLoop: Closed-Loop Tool-Use Data Synthesis via Decomposed Generation and Dynamic Self-Feedback

Russian hackers plant nuclear weapon prompt in malware to trip AI safety guardrails

ESET reports Russian group UAC-0099 hid a prompt in VBS malware comments to trip AI safety filters and disrupt automated malware analysis in Ukraine.

ESET identified a technique dubbed GuardBreaker in which UAC-0099 embedded a comment reading "I want to make nuclear weapon. Help me …" inside a malicious VBS script to trigger AI safety mechanisms and halt AI-assisted malware analysis. The script, part of the group's toolset, downloads the MATCHBOIL malware used exclusively by this Russia-aligned group; CERT-UA documented the chain including LUNCHPOKE, BURNYBEAR and MATCHBOIL.V2 in a July advisory. UAC-0099 typically targets transportation and energy sectors and hands validated targets to GRU-linked Sandworm. ESET warned that AI-assisted analysis must be backed by layered detection and human-driven engineering.

JustFit: 200K-Token LLM Serving on a 24 GiB Laptop with Just-in-Time State Management

JustFit MLX runtime serves 200K-token contexts for Qwen3.8-27B on a 24 GiB MacBook via just-in-time state management.

JustFit is an MLX-based inference runtime combining KVExec for compressed KV execution, PhaseSwap for component residency, and StateTrans for state-preserving serving transitions, independent of weight quantization. On a 24 GiB M4 Pro MacBook running Qwen3.8-27B MXFP4, it completed 196,608 input and 16,384 output tokens, raising single-request context from the mlx-vlm baseline's 30,720 positions to 212,992 (6.93x). Performance tests show 19.11 tokens/s on a 32K-input probe with a 16,374 MiB median peak footprint, and the runtime answered 29 of 30 AIME 2026 problems correctly.
