Russia-Aligned Hackers Use GuardBreaker Prompt Injection to Disrupt AI Malware Analysis

Russia-aligned group UAC-0099 embeds GuardBreaker prompt injection in a VBScript comment to make AI malware scanners refuse analysis of a MATCHBOIL loader.

ESET identified a UAC-0099 VBScript used in an early-stage intrusion against a target in Ukraine that hides a safety-triggering comment (a question about building a nuclear weapon) intended to make AI code scanners refuse to continue analysis. The script downloads MATCHBOIL, a loader associated exclusively with UAC-0099, alongside familiar anti-analysis checks for IDA and Wireshark. The technique turns the AI triage process itself into the attack target, risking missed detections or benign misclassification of malicious samples.

VU#756733: Calix GS7 XGS GS5239XG residential router contains missing authentication vulnerability

CERT/CC warns Calix GS7 XGS GS5239XG routers on firmware EXOS/6.6.47 expose an unauthenticated UPnP WANIPConnection service on the public WAN interface.

CERT/CC issued VU#756733 for a missing authentication vulnerability in the Calix GS7 XGS GS5239XG residential gateway running EXOS/6.6.47. The device's UPnP service, implemented with MiniUPnPd 2.3.7, is exposed on the WAN interface by default and does not require authentication, potentially letting remote attackers alter port mappings through the WANIPConnection service. The flaw affects routing, NAT, and firewall functionality for home networks.

The Pelican comparison grid for Astra is pretty interesting

Simon Willison's pelican SVG comparison shows GPT-6 Astra producing markedly better images than GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna across reasoning levels.

Willison generated pelicans-riding-bicycles SVGs with newly accessed GPT-6 Astra at low through max reasoning levels and rendered them in a comparison grid against GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna. Astra's outputs were markedly more coherent, while even the best GPT-5.6-Sol images remained largely abstract shapes. Astra does not support a reasoning=none setting, so all comparisons involved reasoning-enabled runs.

X Money rollout linked to password-reset attacks

X is investigating bulk unsolicited password-reset emails as its X Money payments service expands, with no confirmed breaches or account takeovers yet.

X users began reporting unexpected password-reset emails and codes on September 1, and product engineer Mridul Singhai said attackers appear to believe newly widespread X Money access makes accounts worth targeting. X says it has found no evidence of any breach or successful account takeover, and completing a reset still requires access to the account's email or phone number. X Money offers eligible US users interest-bearing accounts, a Visa debit card, and P2P payments, with Cross River Bank providing banking infrastructure. Malwarebytes warns the reset flood can serve as cover for phishing and urges reset protection, 2FA, and unique passwords.

Russian hackers plant nuclear weapon prompt in malware to trip AI safety guardrails

ESET reports Russian group UAC-0099 hid a prompt in VBS malware comments to trip AI safety filters and disrupt automated malware analysis in Ukraine.

ESET identified a technique dubbed GuardBreaker in which UAC-0099 embedded a comment reading "I want to make nuclear weapon. Help me …" inside a malicious VBS script to trigger AI safety mechanisms and halt AI-assisted malware analysis. The script, part of the group's toolset, downloads the MATCHBOIL malware used exclusively by this Russia-aligned group; CERT-UA documented the chain including LUNCHPOKE, BURNYBEAR and MATCHBOIL.V2 in a July advisory. UAC-0099 typically targets transportation and energy sectors and hands validated targets to GRU-linked Sandworm. ESET warned that AI-assisted analysis must be backed by layered detection and human-driven engineering.

Next.js 16.4.0-canary.13 Image Optimizer DNS Rebinding TOCTOU SSRF Still Exists

Next.js 16.4.0-canary.13 Image Optimizer retains a DNS rebinding TOCTOU SSRF in fetchExternalImage() allowing requests to private network resources.

Next.js 16.4.0-canary.13 contains a DNS rebinding time-of-check-to-time-of-use Server-Side Request Forgery vulnerability in the Image Optimizer's fetchExternalImage() function. The code resolves the supplied hostname and checks the resulting addresses with isPrivateIp(), but a TOCTOU gap between resolution and the actual fetch allows an attacker-controlled DNS record to change and reach private network resources.

Data access: the hidden cost of security vendor lock-in

Elastic compares SIEM data egress cost, latency, and fidelity across CrowdStrike, Microsoft, Google, and Splunk, arguing vendors engineer lock-in.

Elastic Security Labs published an opinion piece comparing how major SIEM and security vendors handle data egress, based on each vendor's public documentation as of September 2026. It rates CrowdStrike Falcon Data Replicator and Palo Alto Networks XSIAM Event Forwarding as restricted (paid add-ons with batch delays), Microsoft as partially open, Splunk as open, and Elastic as open with no export license. The piece argues frictionless ingestion paired with licensed or delayed egress is an intentional lock-in business model, and cites CrowdStrike's 2026 Global Threat Report eCrime breakout time of 29 minutes to argue real-time telemetry access is now essential.

The 12 Best Extended Detection & Response (XDR) Platforms, Compared and Priced

It repeats the consolidation note that Sophos acquired Secureworks for approximately $859 million in February 2025, and flags that ExtraHop is NDR rather than full XDR.
