NVIDIA Announces CUDA Rust with cuda-oxide (SIMT) and cutile-rs (Tile) for Compile-Time-Safe GPU Kernels

NVIDIA launches CUDA Rust via open-source cuda-oxide (SIMT) and cutile-rs (Tile), bringing compile-time-safe Rust GPU kernels.

NVIDIA announced CUDA Rust, making Rust a first-class language for GPU kernels through two NVlabs open-source projects: cuda-oxide for the SIMT model and cutile-rs for the Tile model. Both use Rust's ownership and borrow checker to catch buffer aliasing bugs at compile time. cutile-rs is published on crates.io, runs on stable Rust 1.89+ with CUDA 13.3, and is already used in Hugging Face's Grout inference engine and mistral.rs; cuda-oxide is early alpha requiring nightly Rust, CUDA 12.x, and compute capability 8.0+. cuda-oxide compiles Rust MIR through the community Pliron IR framework and LLVM to PTX, while cutile-rs JIT-compiles kernels via CUDA Tile IR.

OpenWAM: An Open, Modular Exploration Towards Systematic World-Action Model Pretraining

OpenWAM releases an open modular stack for world-action model pretraining, plus OpenWAM-alpha trained on about 6,400 hours of egocentric and robot data.

OpenWAM is an open research stack that factorizes World-Action Model pretraining into composable infrastructure, study, and model components with unified training, inference, and evaluation. Controlled experiments distill three principles on knowledge inheritance, world-action synergy, and out-of-domain generalization gains from embodied co-training. The resulting OpenWAM-alpha, pretrained on roughly 6,400 hours of egocentric human and robot data, achieves top-tier results across eight simulation benchmarks and real-robot tests spanning single-arm, bimanual, and dexterous embodiments. The full stack, including infrastructure, evaluation protocols, pretrained models, and data recipes, is released openly.

Next.js Patches Critical AVIF and Windows Flaws Enabling Unauthenticated RCE

Vercel patches two critical Next.js unauthenticated RCE flaws: a libheif AVIF heap overflow (CVSS 9.5) and a Windows path traversal (CVE-2026-75604).

Vercel patched two critical Next.js flaws enabling unauthenticated remote code execution: a heap buffer overflow in libheif's AVIF image scaling (GHSA-2xp9-vwfh-vxw4, CVSS v4 9.5) and a Windows path traversal (CVE-2026-75604, CVSS 9.0). The AVIF flaw affects only sites explicitly enabling AVIF optimization and overwrites roughly 16,384 bytes past the buffer; the path traversal affects Windows-hosted Next.js deployments on versions 13.4-15.5.23 and 16.0-16.3.2. Fixes shipped in Next.js 15.5.24 and 16.3.3 on August 25, 2026, with the AVIF researchers releasing a Python PoC demonstrating RCE on multiple applications. No exploitation had been reported as of August 27, 2026.

[AINews] Andrew Ng gets into AI Engineering

Andrew Ng relaunches DeepLearning.AI around AI Engineering, defining four core skills from an analysis of 10,000+ job postings and expert interviews.

Andrew Ng, cofounder of Google Brain and Coursera, relaunched DeepLearning.AI with a focus on AI Engineering, basing the curriculum direction on an analysis of over 10,000 job postings plus interviews and surveys. He identifies four key skills: building and deploying AI applications, software engineering fundamentals, effective use of coding agents, and shaping the build with product sense. The Latent Space AI News issue also recaps agent ecosystem developments, including NVIDIA's 'Skill Lift' evaluation proposal showing skill scan scores correlate only weakly (Spearman rho = 0.14) with judged quality, and Konwinski's open-source persistent-agent 'microharness' Headlong, which achieved an unattended self-debugging repair in 48 minutes.
