TLD Tracker: Exploring Newly Released Top

Unit 42 tracked 19 newly released top-level domains and found large-scale phishing, unwanted program distribution, and cybersquatting tied to TLD launch dates.

Researchers analyzed 19 new generic TLDs, including .zip, .bot, .ing, and .meme, released or approaching general availability over roughly 18 months. Data from passive DNS, registry zone files, newly registered domain feeds, and the Tranco top-1M list showed phishing campaigns, potentially unwanted program distribution, and domain squatting on these TLDs. Abuse correlated with each TLD's rollout phases, indicating attackers monitor general availability dates to register and weaponize domains. The IANA root database now lists over 1,000 generic TLDs.

At Salesforce Dreamforce, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang joined Marc Benioff onstage as Salesforce announced Koa, its first CRM reasoning model, post-trained from NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Super using NeMo RL, NeMo Gym, and NeMo AutoModel. Koa was fine-tuned on a proprietary synthetic dataset drawn from nearly three decades of enterprise CRM deployments across 14+ industries, with no customer data used in training or inference. On Salesforce's CRM Bench of real-world tasks, Koa matches or exceeds leading model performance on CRM actions with 3x fewer errors. Koa already powers an employee agent in Slack, enters customer pilots in October with Formula 1, UChicago Medicine, Baxter Credit Union, 1-800Accountant, Engine, and Xero, and reaches general availability in Winter 2026 in U.S. regions.

OpenAI previewed Private Safety Processing for API and enterprise customers, a system that analyzes patterns across related interactions to flag potential misuse while restricting OpenAI personnel from accessing underlying content. It builds on Zero Data Retention (ZDR) deployments, keeping content on customer-controlled infrastructure or a planned option using customer-controlled encryption keys, with prompts and responses not retained after processing. A technical white paper and rollout are planned for September; images flagged as potential CSAM are the retention exception.

FTC rescinds policy requiring health apps to notify customers after a breach

The FTC unanimously rescinded its 2021 policy statement that required health and fitness apps to notify users after health-data breaches.

The FTC voted to rescind a September 2021 Biden-era policy statement that extended federal health-data breach notification rules to health apps, fitness trackers, and connected devices, which had exposed violators to fines of $43,792 per violation per day. The 2021 statement, adopted in a divided 3-2 vote under then-chair Lina Khan, cited HIPAA coverage gaps for consumer health applications. The commission said the statement provided minimal benefit, was superseded by rulemaking, and aligns with the White House deregulatory agenda.
