CISA Adds Four Known Exploited Vulnerabilities to Catalog

CISA added four actively exploited vulnerabilities—Fortinet buffer overflow, Citrix NetScaler and Cisco auth bypasses, and a Chromium V8 write—to the KEV Catalog.

CISA added CVE-2025-25249 (Fortinet heap-based buffer overflow), CVE-2026-19490 (Citrix NetScaler authentication bypass), CVE-2026-87491 (Google Chromium V8 out-of-bounds write), and CVE-2026-20079 (Cisco Firewall Management Center authentication bypass) to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog based on evidence of active exploitation. Under Binding Operational Directive 26-04, Federal Civilian Executive Branch agencies must prioritize rapid remediation of these high-risk vulnerabilities on exposed assets and verify whether systems were compromised before patching. CISA encourages all organizations to adopt risk-based vulnerability management and prioritize KEV Catalog remediation.

Fortinet Code Execution Flaw Exploited in PivotC2 RAT Attacks

Threat actors exploit Fortinet heap-based buffer overflow CVE-2025-25249 to deploy PivotC2 RAT, infecting 178 devices and exfiltrating data from US targets.

SOCRadar reports exploitation of an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability, CVE-2025-25249 (CVSS 7.4), patched in January in FortiOS and FortiSwitchManager. Attackers scanned over 30,000 IP addresses, infected 178 devices with PivotC2 RAT, and at least two intrusions resulted in data exfiltration, primarily targeting US entities. SOCRadar attributes attacks to a likely Russian-speaking cybercrime actor and suggests the RAT was AI-assisted, in use since July 2026. CISA added the CVE to the KEV catalog with a three-day BOD 26-04 patch deadline for federal agencies.

Unbound: 1.26.1 addresses multiple CVE items

Unbound 1.26.1 fixes critical heap buffer overflow CVE-2026-81642 in DNSKEY digesting that may allow remote code execution.

NLnet Labs released Unbound 1.26.1 on September 16 as a security release fixing several vulnerabilities, most notably CVE-2026-81642, rated CRITICAL, a heap buffer overflow during DNSKEY digesting that can possibly lead to remote code execution. Unbound is a widely deployed DNS recursive resolver and validating resolver. Administrators should upgrade promptly.

Six new dnsmasq vulnerabilities open the door to DNS cache poisoning, local root

Six dnsmasq flaws enable DNS cache poisoning, DoS, memory leaks, and local root code execution; fixes ship in version 2.92rel2.

Researchers disclosed six dnsmasq vulnerabilities spanning memory safety and input validation, including heap buffer overflows in extract_name() and extract_addresses(), DNSSEC infinite-loop and out-of-bounds read flaws, and a DHCPv6 out-of-bounds write allowing local root code execution. Exploitation paths include DNS cache poisoning, bypassing security controls, remote denial of service, and local privilege escalation. Maintainers released version 2.92rel2 with fixes, and a stable 2.93 release is expected within weeks.

AL26-019 - Vulnerabilities impacting Citrix NetScaler ADC and NetScaler Gateway - CVE-2026-19490 and CVE-2026-19489

Canadian Cyber Centre alerts on Citrix NetScaler ADC/Gateway flaws CVE-2026-19490 (authentication bypass) and CVE-2026-19489 (buffer overflow), urging emergency patching.

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security issued alert AL26-019 covering two Citrix NetScaler vulnerabilities disclosed in a vendor advisory on August 19, 2026. CVE-2026-19490 (CWE-288) allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to bypass authentication on appliances configured as a Gateway for SSL VPN, ICA Proxy, CVPN, RDP Proxy, or as an AAA virtual server. CVE-2026-19489 (CWE-120) is a classic buffer overflow that may cause memory overflow, unpredictable behavior, or denial-of-service conditions. Affected appliances are vulnerable when configured as a SAML IdP; fixed versions include 14.1-73.32, 13.1-63.21, and 13.1-37.277 for FIPS.

GitLab Patches Critical Flaws Enabling Arbitrary File Read, Credential Theft and Remote Code Execution

GitLab patched a CVSS 10.0 path traversal (CVE-2026-85706) plus deserialization and buffer-overflow flaws, urging self-managed users to update immediately.

GitLab released versions 19.3.2, 19.2.6, and 19.1.8 on September 10, 2026, fixing CVE-2026-85706 (CVSS 10.0), an unauthenticated path traversal in the repository commits API enabling arbitrary file reads on both Community and Enterprise Editions. CVE-2026-87719 (CVSS 9.9) is insecure deserialization in the EE GraphQL subscription serializer that can expose Advanced Search configurations and credentials, while CVE-2026-88765 (CVSS 8.5) allows authenticated RCE via crafted project exports. The update includes database migrations, so single-node deployments will experience downtime; GitLab.com is already patched.
