Robots are waiting for a ChatGPT moment: Nvidia’s Les Karpas explains why at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026

NVIDIA Inception's Les Karpas will discuss at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 why robotics lacks a ChatGPT moment, citing missing internet-scale physical AI datasets.

NVIDIA Inception's Global Head of Physical AI, Les Karpas, will speak on the Real World AI Stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, held October 13-15 at San Francisco's Moscone West. His core argument is that general-purpose robots lack an internet-wide dataset for physical AI, unlike language models from OpenAI and Anthropic. Founders from Shield AI, Colossal Biosciences, FieldAI, and Foxglove will join related sessions.

NVIDIA Open-Sources OSMO: One YAML Orchestrates Physical AI Training, Simulation, and Robot Testing

NVIDIA open-sourced OSMO, a Kubernetes-native YAML orchestrator running physical-AI training, simulation, and robot testing across mixed GPU tiers.

OSMO (Apache-2.0, latest release 6.3.1) lets teams describe training, simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop pipelines in a single YAML and routes tasks across datacenter GPUs (GB200), workstation RTX hardware, and edge devices like Jetson AGX Thor. It ships Helm charts and containers on NGC, uses the KAI Scheduler with NVLink topology-aware placement, and includes RBAC, OAuth2, and TLS termination. NVIDIA says it is battle-tested on GR00T, Isaac Lab, Isaac Sim, and Isaac ROS, and integrates with Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and Cursor agents.

Hierarchical NeRF with JAX3D for Volumetric Rendering, Novel-View Synthesis, and 3D Reconstruction

MarkTechPost tutorial implements a hierarchical NeRF in JAX using jax3d volume-rendering primitives for novel-view synthesis and 3D reconstruction.

The tutorial builds an end-to-end hierarchical Neural Radiance Field using JAX, Flax, Optax, and jax3d's volume-rendering functions (sample_along_rays, volume_rendering, sample_piecewise_constant_pdf). It implements positional encoding, skip connections, separate coarse and fine networks, and view-direction conditioning with hierarchical importance sampling. Training uses JAX JIT compilation, Adam optimization, exponential learning-rate decay, and gradient clipping. Evaluation covers PSNR, depth and opacity visualization, 360-degree rendering, and marching-cubes geometry extraction.

IndicTriMix: Developing Language Identification Datasets and Models for Tri-Language Code-Mixing

Researchers release IndicTriMix benchmarks and fine-tuned MuRIL and XLM-RoBERTa models for token-level language identification in tri-language code-mixed text.

The paper formulates token-level language identification in code-mixed text as a sequence labeling task and fine-tunes MuRIL and XLM-RoBERTa transformer models for Indian languages. It evaluates on Hindi, Gujarati, and Bengali configurations with manually annotated test sets and proposes two code-mixed generation approaches using parallel trilingual sentences. A public benchmark, annotated test sets, and fine-tuned models are released for reproducibility.

Cross-modal learning for SAR target recognition using optical vision foundation models

Frozen DINOv3 optical prototypes supervise SAR target recognition without EO/SAR pairs, improving classification on the heavily imbalanced UNICORNv2 dataset.

The framework aligns SAR embeddings to class-level prototypes built from a frozen DINOv3 electro-optical encoder, requiring no strict EO/SAR image pairs. At inference the SAR model operates independently without access to optical imagery. On UNICORNv2, a civilian vehicle dataset with heavy speckle and severe class imbalance, EO prototype alignment improves accuracy over frozen DINOv3, SAR-only finetuning, and unpaired distribution alignment baselines.

Rhysida Publishes Berlin Government Data After €2m Extortion Demand Refused

Rhysida published 5.7 TB of Berlin state government data, including sensitive CBRN emergency plans, after the state refused a €2m ransom demand.

The Rhysida ransomware gang leaked roughly 5.7 TB — about 1.4 million files — stolen from Berlin's state network after the government declined to pay 30 bitcoins (about €2m) by the September 4 deadline. The dump reportedly includes sensitive state emergency plans for terrorist attacks and CBRN disaster scenarios in a folder titled 'AG CBRN-Rahmenplanung', plus personnel files, absence lists, payroll data, and home addresses, potentially affecting tens of thousands of people. Berlin says there are no indications the state network remains compromised and will notify affected individuals on a risk-based basis after forensic analysis.

The 2026 PNPL Competition: Word Classification and Efficient Cross-Subject Generalisation in LibriBrain100

The 2026 PNPL competition releases LibriBrain100, a MEG speech dataset with 32 extra subjects, targeting word classification and cross-subject BCI generalization.

The 2025 PNPL competition on non-invasive speech decoding from MEG achieved F1-macro scores of 95.6% for speech detection and 73.6% for phoneme classification, built on LibriBrain's ~50 hours of single-subject data. The 2026 edition extends this with LibriBrain100, adding 32 subjects (~40 minutes each) plus ~80 hours of within-subject data. Two tracks target within-subject word classification at scale and cross-subject generalization with subject-specific fine-tuning shrinking from ~40 to ~20 to ~10 minutes, aiming at clinically feasible non-invasive BCIs for people with profound paralysis.

Edge infrastructure under siege: what two independent datasets reveal about who's exploiting your perimeter

Joint Tenable-SentinelOne analysis of 93 CVE-actor attribution pairs shows nation-state and criminal groups independently converge on the same edge infrastructure.

Tenable and SentinelOne jointly analyzed 93 CVE-actor attribution pairs covering exploitation of perimeter devices. The data shows state-sponsored and financially motivated actors independently target the same edge products from Ivanti, Fortinet, and Palo Alto Networks. The findings challenge the narrative that edge exploitation is exclusively a China-nexus nation-state problem, showing a broader shared attack surface.

Threat Brief: Ongoing Russia and Ukraine Cyber Activity

Ukrainian government sites were defaced via OctoberCMS CVE-2021-32648 while Microsoft-attributed actor DEV-0586 deployed destructive WhisperGate malware.

Unit 42 tracks January 2022 attacks against Ukrainian government websites that were defaced or made inaccessible, which Ukraine attributed to Russia. Attackers exploited CVE-2021-32648, an account takeover flaw in OctoberCMS prior to 1.0.472, by submitting a boolean true as the password reset code to bypass validation. Separately, WhisperGate malware, attributed by Microsoft to DEV-0586, disabled Windows Defender and corrupted files across multiple Ukrainian organizations, using a ransomware-appearing first stage and an HTTPS-beaconing second stage with LOLBINs and anti-analysis techniques.
