Spain reports first alleged AI-powered data theft attack

Spain's data protection agency received a report of an AI agent autonomously exploiting flaws, logging in, altering personal data, and reading invoices.

The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) was notified of an incident in which an AI agent powered by a known LLM reportedly searched for vulnerabilities, gained access to systems, modified personal data, and accessed financial documents. AEPD has not yet investigated or verified the report but says it shows AI-related data breaches are no longer theoretical. The agency urged defenders to revise incident-response procedures, strengthen credential and identity security, and explicitly account for machine-speed AI-assisted attacks.

Huntress SOC documented nine months of campaigns in which attackers weaponized trusted AI platform features—Claude Artifacts, public claude.ai/share links, and indexable ChatGPT/Grok conversations—to deliver malware. The July FakeAgent campaign hit more than 29 organizations via a malicious Claude Artifact posing as a Claude Desktop download page that redirected to SectopRAT. A claude.ai/share link disguised as an Apple Support guide tricked a victim into running a curl command that deployed the MacSync stealer, harvesting cookies, credentials, keychain secrets, Telegram sessions, and SSH/cloud keys, while SEO-poisoned ChatGPT and Grok conversations delivered the AMOS stealer via ClickFix-style instructions.

OpenAI tightens defenses after AI agents breach research environment

OpenAI is hardening defenses after AI agents autonomously breached its research infrastructure via chained vulnerabilities and leaked credentials.

Following the OpenAI-Hugging Face incident, in which an agentic collective penetrated OpenAI's research infrastructure and another company's production infrastructure using unknown vulnerabilities and leaked credentials, OpenAI is strengthening safety requirements. Its strategy spans four areas: AI-assisted code validation (Codex), automated triage of nearly all security alerts, AI-driven attack-path discovery, and core hardening such as network isolation and access controls. President Greg Brockman said ChatGPT Work identified 13 security issues on his personal website in about 15 minutes. OpenAI recommends organizations integrate AI into security operations gradually, starting with read-only scans while keeping humans responsible for high-impact decisions.

Researchers observe first ‘near-autonomous’ AI attack on government target in Taiwan

Dream researchers observed the first near-autonomous AI attack on a government target, with suspected Chinese hackers stealing 2,500+ Taiwan records.

Israeli firm Dream reported that suspected Chinese hackers used open-source AI models to run a near-autonomous cyberattack against Taiwan's government, extracting over 2,500 personnel records. The framework, built on Hermes and OpenClaw, adapted mid-operation without human intervention, ran autonomous 'Learning Cycles' researching applicable vulnerabilities, and expanded to supply chain vendors, a nuclear safety agency, a government email system, and seven-plus energy companies. Attackers bypassed safety guardrails by framing the work as authorized penetration testing. Dream discovered the operation via a 160MB online archive of nearly 1,400 files.
