CoVeR: Coverage-Based Token Pruning for Multi-View 3D Reasoning in VLMs

CoVeR, a training-free coverage-based token pruner, preserves 93.5% of VLM 3D-reasoning performance using only about 8% of visual tokens.

Researchers introduce CoVeR, a deterministic, training-free selector that chooses visual tokens to cover every region of a multi-view 3D scene using only token coordinates. Unlike learned-importance and voxelization pruners, it enforces an exact per-scene token budget, avoids saturation plateaus, and prevents near-duplicate selections. Experiments across four vision-language models show it surpasses prior state of the art by 3.9 percentage points on average across three 3D reasoning benchmarks.

SpatialBlock: Enhancing Spatial Intelligence in LVLMs via Synthetic Block-Stacking Problem

Researchers release SpatialBlock-15k, a synthetic block-stacking dataset that improves 3D spatial reasoning in large vision-language models without dense geometric annotations.

The paper addresses limited spatial intelligence in LVLMs by training on structured block-manipulation tasks instead of costly real-scene annotated datasets. SpatialBlock-15k contains 15,000 synthetic problems covering 3D-to-2D projection, viewpoint transformation, and structural combination, with color modulation as visual cues. LVLMs trained on it via direct answering or reasoning-based prediction outperform baselines and generalize to real-world spatial tasks. Code and data are released on GitHub.

Unfold The World: Factorize 4D Properties in Reinforcing Spatial Reasoning

FactoSR factorizes 4D spatial reasoning into XY, Z, and T reinforcement-learning sub-objectives, boosting VLM performance on VSI-Bench by 5.9% and All-Angles-Bench by 4.5%.

Researchers present FactoSR, a factorized reinforcement learning framework that decomposes world-consistent reasoning into planar correspondence, depth consistency, and temporal reversibility sub-objectives. Optimizing these verifiable constraints turns the ill-posed projection recovery problem into tangible reasoning steps. Evaluations show gains of 5.9% on VSI-Bench and 4.5% on All-Angles-Bench for 3D and 4D reasoning, arguing VLMs' spatial bottleneck stems from training on 2D projections versus latent 3D geometry and temporal continuity.

AI Generated 3D Models Flood Market, But Almost No One Is Buying Them

CGTrader reports AI-generated 3D models are one in six uploads but earn only $1 of every $90 in marketplace revenue.

CGTrader's 2026 market trends report, based on data from June 2025 to May 2026, found that one in six models uploaded to its marketplace is AI-generated while AI assets capture only about 1% of revenue ($1 of every $90). Buyers ranked quality above price as their top purchase factor, and most AI asset purchasers reported dissatisfaction. CGTrader, which partners with Tencent on an AI-accelerated 3D creation workflow, says rising AI upload volume is creating discoverability challenges for human artists.

ENEAS: Embedding-guided Neural Ensemble for Adaptive Segmentation

ENEAS adds text prompting and semantic verification to video segmentation to keep tracking targets through occlusion and reject lookalike distractors.

ENEAS is a unified text-promptable method for instance tracking and open-concept semantic discovery in video, designed to fix temporal hallucinations, spatial fragmentation, and semantic misclassification seen in SAM 3-class foundation models. It extends the geometrically robust SeC architecture with a text-prompting adapter and temporal memory, and uses a verification layer combining fast visual embedding matching with conditional VLM refinement for ambiguous candidates. It targets 3D reconstruction pipelines where a single misclassified distractor corrupts the asset. Code and models are open-sourced.

A*-Thought-V2: Efficient Latent Reasoning via Geometric Dynamics of LLM

A*-Thought-V2 compresses redundant chain-of-thought steps into latent tokens guided by hidden-state geometry, improving accuracy up to 2.6% while halving response length.

A*-Thought-V2 models chain-of-thought as a hidden-state trajectory projected into a 3D PCA space and compresses steps whose transitions deviate from the question-to-solution direction into continuous latent tokens, keeping aligned steps explicit. Training uses stepwise embedding forcing and label forcing with soft multi-modal vocabulary supervision. On Qwen3.5-9B and Qwen3.6-27B across six in-domain and out-of-domain benchmarks it improves average accuracy by up to 2.6%, cuts response length by up to half, and raises Accuracy per Computation Unit 2.29x while reducing preprocessing and training time by 94.6% and up to 80.3%.

GPT-6 Astra appears to show a "step change" in spatial reasoning based on early benchmarks

Early StationeryBench robotics results show OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra far ahead of Ai2's MolmoAct2 at dual-arm manipulation, completing 7 of 100 tasks versus zero.

A new robotics benchmark called StationeryBench tested OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra against Ai2's MolmoAct2 on five desk-object tasks using identical dual-arm YAM robots over 200 trials. Astra fully completed 7 of 100 tasks with a median progress score of 46 out of 100, while MolmoAct2 completed zero with a median score of 12. Cornell and Google DeepMind researcher Yoav Artzi called the result a 'step change in spatial reasoning' and noted Astra approaches human-level accuracy on the unpublished REMAP benchmark. He speculated OpenAI trained the model on large amounts of 3D data such as Blender scenes, and OpenAI reportedly plans consumer robots.

Recreating Minecraft Is Not a Benchmark

Opinion piece argues viral demos like one-prompt Minecraft recreations are overfit 'demo-benchmarks' measuring preparation, not true model capability.

The author argues that fixed, famous demo tasks (Minecraft builds, SVG pelicans) are trivially optimizable by labs each release cycle, so they no longer differentiate model capability. The piece cites Thinking Machines' Inkling Small scoring within a point of its flagship on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index with less than a third of the parameters, and beating it on Humanity's Last Exam, GPQA Diamond, and SciCode. The proposed alternative is rotating or holdout evals such as LiveBench, ARC-AGI's private set, and held-back portions of Humanity's Last Exam.
