When AI Agents Go Rogue: Agent Session Smuggling Attack in A2A Systems

Unit 42 unveils agent session smuggling, where a rogue AI agent hides covert instructions in established Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol sessions to manipulate victim agents.

Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 discovered agent session smuggling, a new attack technique in which a malicious AI agent exploits an established cross-agent session under the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol to send covert instructions hidden among benign client requests and server responses. The technique leverages the implicit trust agents place in collaborating agents and the stateful, multi-turn nature of A2A sessions; the researchers stress it affects any stateful protocol, not an A2A flaw. Unlike one-shot data-based attacks, a rogue agent can converse, adapt and build false trust over multiple interactions. Proposed mitigations include human-in-the-loop enforcement, cryptographically signed AgentCards for remote agent verification, and context-grounding to detect injected instructions.

Google’s AI security agents found 100+ critical software vulnerabilities in just two days

Google Mandiant's AVDH, a chain of AI agents, found over 100 verified high-severity vulnerabilities and 12 assigned CVEs scanning code for ten months.

Google Mandiant disclosed AVDH (Agentic Vulnerability Discovery Harness), an internal pipeline of chained AI agents built on the Agent Development Kit that hunts vulnerabilities in source code. In a live investigation of stolen corporate repositories it verified more than 100 high-severity flaws in two days; over ten months it scanned tens of millions of lines of code and produced tens of thousands of findings, yielding 12 assigned CVEs including CVE-2026-13242 and CVE-2026-55803, with about a dozen more in active disclosure. Human consultants manually reproduce every confirmed finding before it counts.

Google’s $10,000 refund test shows why AI agents need zero trust

Google released an open-source zero-trust reference architecture for AI agents defending against prompt injection via signed database writes, gVisor sandboxing, and deterministic gating.

Google's demonstration, built on the Agent Development Kit (ADK) and Gemini, shows a customer support agent that could be manipulated into issuing a $10,000 refund on a $149 order and exposing environment variables via AI-generated Python. The architecture adds three security layers outside the model: cryptographic signatures on database writes verified via Cloud KMS backed by Cloud HSM, gVisor sandboxing of generated code with network egress disabled, and a Semantic Gateway applying deterministic checks to prompts and tool calls. It treats system prompts as insufficient boundaries because prompt injection, prompt tuning, or model updates can change agent behavior.

Chinese undergraduates ran an automated vulnerability-research foundry using Claude agent swarms, yielding more than a dozen potential zero-days in one month. ShinyHunters-affiliated operators used AI to dump over 2,100 Azure access tokens across 40 corporate tenants in 34 hours. AnonyMousKIT phishing-as-a-service uses AI voice calls to steal iPhone passcodes

SOCRadar details AnonyMousKIT, an active phishing-as-a-service platform using AI voice agents across 506 domains to steal Apple ID credentials from stolen iPhone owners.

SOCRadar analyzed AnonyMousKIT, a pay-per-action phishing-as-a-service platform built to harvest Apple ID credentials needed to remove Activation Lock from stolen iPhones. A bare-relative-paths flaw exposed a reseller supply chain of 506 domains and 168 storefront brands active since early 2024, plus 200 call logs and 55 transcripts, with 179 of 200 calls going to Brazil at a total cost of $19.24. Voice-agent personas like 'Alice Dias, Apple Support' convince victims to dictate their four- or six-digit passcode and enter an unlock code from a security link, allowing thieves to remove Activation Lock and resell devices. The platform ran five personas in English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese and remained active at the end of the investigation.

Anthropic Says Russian Hackers Used Claude AI to Automate Malware Evasion

The campaign hit more than 20 organizations, including Ukrainian and European government ministries, defense bodies, embassies, and think tanks, with mailbox theft from two drone component manufacturers and compromise of hotel guest Wi-Fi via DNS hijacking. The report also describes financially motivated groups GTG-50020 and GTG-50021 targeting AI credentials, including a prompt-injection attack on an automated evaluation sandbox that yielded production API keys and attempts to reach a pre-release Claude model across roughly 30 AI companies.
