We got admin access to Baseten's production GitHub in 25 minutes

Strix autonomous hacking agent extracted a working GitHub token with repo admin rights from Baseten's public Harbor image; Baseten rotated it next day.

Strix, an autonomous hacking agent, scanned *.baseten.co without credentials and found a public Harbor container registry project anonymously exposing the baseten/baseten-app image. A GitHub personal access token for basetenbot, embedded in Docker build history since March 2023, still worked in July 2026 and granted admin/push rights to basetenlabs/baseten, flux-cd, and homebrew-tap plus read/write on private customer repos. Baseten, valued at $13 billion, confirmed the issue as critical and rotated the token within a day.

CISA Warns Water Utilities: Find Your Exposed PLCs Before Attackers Do

CISA urged water utilities to secure internet-exposed PLCs after July 2026 attacks compromised over 100 US water and wastewater systems, suspected Iran-linked.

CISA's exposure-reduction guidance, published August 21, follows July 2026 attacks in which threat actors remotely accessed PLCs connected directly through cellular modems, changed device IP addresses and passwords, and in some cases disabled alarms and shutdown processes without notifying operators. Iran is the suspected actor, though officials stopped short of formal attribution. CISA recommends routing remote access through centrally managed secure gateways, phishing-resistant MFA, unique credentials, and external scanning of industrial protocols such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, DNP3, BACnet and OPC UA.

Wordfence Argus Finds Unauthenticated Arbitrary File Upload Vulnerability in Gravity Forms

Wordfence finds an unauthenticated arbitrary file upload flaw in Gravity Forms (1M+ installs) that can lead to remote code execution.

On August 9, 2026, Wordfence's Argus scanner discovered an unauthenticated arbitrary file upload vulnerability in the WordPress plugin Gravity Forms, estimated at over one million active installations. Attackers can write files with attacker-selected extensions to a public temporary upload directory, potentially enabling remote code execution. The post does not mention a CVE identifier or observed exploitation.

The vulnpocalypse rains iBugs down on Apple with record-setting number of patches

Apple's record patch cycle fixes 260+ CVEs across iOS 27 and macOS 27, including CUPS remote code execution, with no active exploitation reported.

Apple patched more than 260 CVEs across its operating systems and software, its largest single patch cycle ever, with iOS 27 fixing 122 flaws and macOS 27 Golden Gate fixing 204. Notable bugs include CVE-2026-43692, a CUPS validation issue allowing remote code execution, and CVE-2026-43689, an iOS privilege-escalation flaw granting root access. Ten CVEs were credited to AI-assisted bug hunting, including CVE-2026-65410 and CVE-2026-65409 found by Calif with Claude and Anthropic Research. None of the vulnerabilities are listed as actively exploited.

⚡ Weekly Recap: AI-Powered PLC Attacks, GitLab Attacks, Stripe Key Leaks and More

US agencies warn of AI-assisted attacks on exposed Siemens PLCs; the week also saw GitLab CVE-2026-19478 exploited and trojanized npm packages found.

The weekly recap leads with a US government warning that threat actors use AI-generated scripts and Censys/ZoomEye scanning to attack internet-exposed Siemens S7 PLCs in water, energy and manufacturing, calling it an active threat. Other stories include active exploitation of GitLab CVE-2026-19478 (CVSS 9.4, unauthenticated project rewriting), 14 trojanized npm packages delivering the RedC2 4.0 Linux backdoor, and the Zombie Card attack that revives expired Visa cards for contactless payment fraud. It also covers suspected Russian clusters UNC6293, UNC7005 and UNC5976 phishing campaigns, a faster Cloudflare Workers Spectre JWT leak, and a bespoke Cl0p JSP web shell deployed after exploiting PTC Windchill flaws.
