F5 speeds up virtual patching to counter AI-driven threats
F5 added anomaly detection and agentic threat intelligence to its AI-powered WAF, enabling virtual patch enforcement against exploits within minutes.
F5 announced enhancements to F5 WAF for Distributed Cloud, adding anomaly detection that builds per-application traffic baselines and agentic threat intelligence built on technology from the Fletch acquisition. The AI-powered WAF scores each request in real time with a neural network risk engine, and internal testing claims 98% threat detection efficacy with false positives reduced to 1%. Automated virtual patching via Distributed Cloud Web App Scanning extends to F5 WAF for BIG-IP, letting teams block actively exploited vulnerabilities at the request level in minutes; agentic features are rolling out over coming months.
Introducing context-aware vulnerability discovery and remediation with Cloudflare Managed Defense and OpenAI Daybreak models
Cloudflare launches invitation-only Vulnerability Discovery and Remediation within Managed Defense, using OpenAI Daybreak models and WAF context to prioritize and patch vulnerabilities.
Cloudflare announced early access to Vulnerability Discovery and Remediation, an invitation-only service within Cloudflare Managed Defense. The service uses OpenAI Daybreak models, including GPT-5.6 Cyber, via the Daybreak Defense Network to hunt and validate vulnerabilities in customer-authorized codebases across Workers and proxied applications. Findings are prioritized using production traffic, WAF rule, and security event context, and proposed patches and WAF mitigations are automatically checked before customer review.

Akamai published a technical blog post examining the architecture of its AI-powered web application firewall detections. Per the title, the piece covers the design and safety controls applied to machine-learning-based WAF detections.
What Zero-Day Response Should Be in the Post-Mythos Era
Picus Security outlines a zero-day response playbook where defenders simulate exploit technique chains before public PoCs exist.
The article uses PaperCut NG/MF's August incident — exploitation in the wild before any patch, with the first emergency fix bypassed the same day and a third landing September 1 — as the template for AI-accelerated vulnerability response. It walks through a hypothetical CVE-2026-1001 (explicitly made up) to argue defenders should map CVEs to ATT&CK technique chains and simulate them against NGFW, WAF, EDR, endpoint hardening, and SIEM controls within minutes of disclosure. It notes disclosure-to-exploitation time has fallen from 21.5 days to hours.

Bot detection arrives in CrowdSec 1.8.0, along with two DoS fixes
CrowdSec 1.8.0 adds WAF bot detection via challenges and fingerprinting and fixes denial-of-service flaws in HTTP and Kubernetes audit datasources.
CrowdSec 1.8.0, released August 31, introduces bot detection in its WAF using client challenges and fingerprinting, plus fixes for two denial-of-service vulnerabilities in the HTTP acquisition datasource (unbounded decompressed body size, trusted Content-Length) and the Kubernetes audit webhook datasource (unbounded request body reads). The release also adds a dedicated Kubernetes datasource pulling logs directly from the apiserver, new HTTP helpers for external queries in the expression language, and performance work on the decisions stream endpoint. The challenge requires SSE4.1 and writable-executable memory, so some legitimate visitors may be blocked.
Have it both ways: stay discoverable in search while disallowing AI training
Cloudflare launches Disallow AI Training setting letting sites block AI training via robots.txt while staying indexed in search; Apple, Google, and Microsoft honor it.
Cloudflare announced a 'Disallow AI Training' setting that publishes a no-training preference in robots.txt so sites can block AI training (including by mixed-use crawlers) without losing search indexing. Apple, Google, and Microsoft meet Cloudflare's new 'Accountable' designation, which requires training/summary opt-out mechanisms, URL-level training visibility, and assurance that opt-outs don't affect search rankings. Cloudflare cites that under 1% of its sites block search bots while 17% block AI training, and its Block settings now apply to mixed-use crawlers as well. Granular controls over how much content appears in AI summaries are planned for early next year.
Top 10 Best Serverless Security Solutions in 2026
Buyer's guide ranks Palo Alto Prisma Cloud and Aqua top for serverless security; standalone serverless security has largely folded into CNAPP platforms.
A top-ten listicle evaluates serverless security tools across FaaS platforms like AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, and Google Cloud Functions. Prisma Cloud and Aqua lead platform coverage, Snyk owns code/dependency scanning, and Sysdig covers runtime behavior. The guide's main conclusion is that the standalone serverless security category has largely consolidated into CNAPP platforms.
12 Best Server Security Solutions Compared (2026): Features & Pricing
GBHackers ranks 12 server security solutions for 2026, naming CrowdStrike and SentinelOne as server EDR leaders and Trend Micro Deep Security top for virtual patching.
The guide scores 12 server security platforms across five weighted criteria, with detection and response depth and Linux parity weighted 25% each. CrowdStrike and SentinelOne lead server EDR, Trend Micro Deep Security is highlighted for virtual patching of unpatchable estates, and Microsoft Defender for Servers is noted for Azure and hybrid economics. It is an editorial assessment comparing features and pricing models rather than a lab test.
Automatic Key Exchange: faster, post-quantum secure origin handshakes for 45 billion daily connections (and counting)
Cloudflare's Automatic Key Exchange probes origins to lead with preferred key exchange, cutting HelloRetryRequests from 52% to 3.7% and enabling automatic post-quantum origin connections.
Cloudflare announced Automatic Key Exchange, an extension of Automatic SSL/TLS that probes each origin's supported key agreement algorithms and leads with the preferred one, favoring the post-quantum hybrid X25519MLKEM768. Rollover across roughly 45 billion daily origin connections cut HelloRetryRequests from about 52% to 3.7%, saving more than 150 ms of p90 handshake latency. Hundreds of thousands of domains now receive post-quantum origin connections without manual configuration, supporting Cloudflare's goal of quantum-safe encryption by 2029 to counter harvest-now-decrypt-later attacks.

WordPress Security Plugins: How to Choose the Right One
Sucuri's guide breaks WordPress security plugins into hardening, malware scanning, integrity monitoring, and filtering types, and explains how to evaluate and layer them.
The Sucuri guide explains that WordPress security plugins bundle five capabilities - hardening, malware detection, integrity monitoring, activity logging, and application-level filtering - and that plugins run only after WordPress loads, unlike server-level firewalls. It lists leading causes of compromise: outdated plugins and themes, weak or reused credentials, nulled premium software, insecure configuration, and shared-hosting cross-contamination. It concludes with evaluation criteria and a post-installation security checklist for owners without dedicated security teams.

338 Million Attack Simulations Reveal The State Of Enterprise Defense
Picus Labs' Blue Report 2026, from 338 million attack simulations, finds defenses strong at the perimeter but blocking only 37% of post-compromise actions.
Picus Labs' fourth annual Blue Report analyzed over 338 million attack simulations from production environments in H1 2026. Average prevention effectiveness rose from 62% to 69%, but only 37% of attacker actions were blocked after compromise, with reconnaissance and credential theft largely missed. IOC-based malware download prevention fell to 50% from 71% in 2024, and Mimikatz credential dumping from LSASS memory was blocked 94% of the time versus 17% from other memory locations and 3% from registry.
