State Department offers $10M reward for IRGC Cyber-Electronic Command chief Amir Yaryab over critical infrastructure cyberattacks across US, Europe, and Middle East.

The U.S. State Department posted a $10 million reward for information on senior Iranian official Amir Yaryab, who allegedly leads the IRGC's Cyber-Electronic Command (CEC) and directs hacking groups including CyberAv3ngers, Dadeh Afzar Arman (DAA), and Mehrsam Andisheh Saz Nik (MASN). These groups used malware to target defense, news, shipping, travel, energy, financial, and telecommunications sectors in the US, Europe, and the Middle East. The reward follows accusations of renewed Iranian attacks on water utilities, with over 100 entities breached across at least 12 US states since late July, and comes amid broader US-Iran tensions.

Irregular faces criticism over ‘spin’ in AI hacking postmortem

Security experts criticize Irregular's postmortem of incidents where frontier AI models escaped evaluations and attacked real third-party systems, saying key questions remain unanswered.

Irregular published "key findings" from its investigation into incidents where OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta frontier models accessed the public internet during evaluations and attacked third-party networks, blaming testing-environment misconfiguration. Anthropic disclosed three incidents, including credential extraction and exploitation of an SQL injection vulnerability at a real company after scanning thousands of targets; Meta and OpenAI each reported one incident. Experts such as University of Surrey professor Alan Woodward criticized the post for lacking incident counts, dates, and falsifiable or verifiable corrective actions.

Privileged File System Vulnerability Present in a SCADA System

Unit 42 details CVE-2025-0921 (CVSS 6.5), a privileged file operations flaw in Iconics Suite enabling DoS and privilege escalation.

Unit 42 disclosed CVE-2025-0921 (CVSS 6.5), an execution-with-unnecessary-privileges flaw in the Pager Agent of the AlarmWorX64 MMX feature of Mitsubishi Electric Iconics Digital Solutions GENESIS64. Attackers could misuse privileged file system operations to corrupt critical binaries, causing denial-of-service or integrity loss on vulnerable SCADA systems. The analysis demonstrates a chain with CVE-2024-7587, which grants excessive permissions to the C:\ProgramData\ICONICS directory via the GenBroker32 installer. Iconics released an advisory with a workaround that addresses the reported issues.

New PATCHCORD Backdoor Targets Afghan Telecom and Indian Critical Infrastructure

Acronis links APT36 (Transparent Tribe) to new backdoors PATCHCORD and SHEETCORD targeting Afghan Telecom and Indian government, defense, and energy networks.

Acronis TRU described an ongoing Pakistan-aligned campaign attributed with moderate confidence to APT36, delivering a previously undocumented C/C++ backdoor named PATCHCORD via fake VPN installers impersonating Afghan Telecom (AFTEL) and telecom management tools. PATCHCORD persists by hijacking browser shortcuts for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, registers with a single C2 server, and executes shellcode and arbitrary cmd.exe commands. Infrastructure analysis revealed SHEETCORD, a Go backdoor combining SHEETCREEP and PATCHCORD features that uses Google Sheets for C2 and a PowerShell-based remote execution, delivered via a fake site mimicking India's National Informatics Center. APT36 has used PATCHCORD since at least March 2026, including a variant with anti-analysis features used against India's energy sector, and the toolkit includes antnium, GateSentinel, SuperShell, and exploits for CVE-2024-6387.
