USN-8514-2 extends the USN-8514-1 OpenSSH fix to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 18.04 LTS, and 20.04 LTS. The flaw stems from incorrect file permission handling when downloading files as root using the legacy scp protocol without the preserve-mode option. An attacker could exploit this to install setuid or setgid files on the system, potentially leading to privilege escalation.

USN-8736-2 backports the Perl fixes from USN-8736-1 to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. CVE-2026-15534 involves out-of-bounds heap reads or writes when regular expressions handle large inputs, potentially causing denial of service or arbitrary code execution. CVE-2026-19487 causes incorrect regex matching with alternative branches, allowing security restrictions to be bypassed.

CVE-2024-52596 involves improper handling of external entities when parsing untrusted XML, allowing a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, and did not affect Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. An additional flaw in signature verification for SAML messages using the HTTP-Redirect binding is also addressed.

CVE-2026-19499 is a buffer overflow in the strfmon function when handling right-justification padding, affecting only Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. CVE-2026-19542 is an out-of-bounds stack array access in the tdelete function. An additional issue involves incorrect memory handling in wordexp with the WRDE_APPEND flag. All issues could potentially cause denial of service or arbitrary code execution.

F5 security advisory (AV26-878)
Canada's Cyber Centre relayed an F5 advisory (AV26-878) covering vulnerabilities in BIG-IP, BIG-IQ, NGINX components, and APM clients.
The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security published advisory AV26-878 noting F5 vulnerabilities affecting BIG-IP all modules prior to 17.1.3.4, 17.5.1.8, 21.0.0.3, and 21.1.0.1, plus BIG-IQ prior to 8.4.2.1, NGINX Gateway Fabric, NGINX Ingress Controller, NGINX JavaScript 9.9, and APM clients. F5 issued an out-of-band security notification (K000162872) on September 2, 2026. Administrators are encouraged to review the linked advisory and apply updates as they become available.
