Cisco Fixed Critical RCE in Nexus 9000 Series Switches

Cisco patched CVE-2026-20212 (CVSS 9.8) in Silicon One-based Nexus 9000 switches, allowing unauthenticated remote root code execution via TCP ports 43210/43211.

Cisco patched CVE-2026-20212 (CVSS 9.8), a flaw in the Silicon One integration for Nexus 9000 Series switches that lets unauthenticated remote attackers execute code with root privileges. TCP ports 43210 and 43211 are exposed through the default Layer 3 VRF, and exploitation can also crash the S1HAL process, forcing device reloads. Cisco TAC discovered the flaw during a support case; PSIRT is not aware of public disclosure or malicious exploitation. Workarounds include infrastructure ACLs or blocking the exposed ports, alongside a Live Protect shield pending fixed NX-OS upgrades.

FBI Probes Service Selling 153M+ Drivers Licenses

Dark web service Nexus sells scans of 153M+ US and Canadian drivers licenses, apparently siphoned from a breached identity verification company; FBI opened an inquiry.

A new dark web identity theft service called Nexus, advertised on the Exploit forum, offers scans of more than 153 million drivers licenses from the US and Canada, plus over 10 million ID cards and millions of travel and medical documents. The data appears to come from an ongoing breach at a major Louisiana-based identity verification company, with records growing by roughly 400,000 in 24 hours. Records include high-ranking US officials such as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and timestamps suggest data was captured during car rentals and travel. The FBI's New Orleans field office has launched an official inquiry into the source of the images.

FBI Investigates Nexus Claim of 153M+ Driver’s License Records

FBI is investigating dark web service Nexus's claim to sell access to over 153 million US and Canadian driver's license records.

A dark web service called Nexus claims to offer more than 153 million driver's license records from the United States and Canada. The FBI is investigating the claim. The scale of the alleged dataset would make it one of the larger exposed PII collections if verified.

Cisco Nexus 9000 Series Switches Silicon One Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

Cisco patches unauthenticated RCE in Nexus 9000 Silicon One switches exposed via TCP ports 43210 and 43211 in the default L3 VRF.

Cisco disclosed and patched a vulnerability in the Silicon One integration for Nexus 9000 Series switches that allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute code with root privileges. The flaw stems from TCP ports 43210 and 43211 being accessible in the default Layer 3 VRF. Exploitation can also crash the S1HAL process and force an affected device to reload. Cisco has released software updates, and workarounds are available to mitigate exposure.

Suspected China-Nexus Actor Exploits VMware vCenter Flaw, Deploys Babuk

QUIRSO attributes exploitation of VMware vCenter CVE-2026-59310 to a suspected China-nexus actor that hit 361 IPs in 47 countries, deploying backdoors and Babuk.

German incident response firm QUIRSOS assessed with moderate confidence that a suspected China-nexus actor, likely operating in UTC+08:00 hours, exploited VMware vCenter flaw CVE-2026-59310 (CVSS 9.8 directory traversal) beginning five days after Broadcom's July 29 patch. The campaign compromised 361 unique victim IPs across 47 countries, most in Germany, the US, Turkey, Iran, and France. The actor abused cron jobs, a XOR-obfuscated 'linuxFile' WebSocket backdoor with systemd/cron persistence, a JSP web shell, SSH authorized-keys manipulation, and a reverse SSH tool, with one Babuk deployment reported. A separate vCenter 'vcenter_admin' account creation consistent with CVE-2026-59309 exploitation was also observed from August 1.

Cisco searched for IOS XR bugs and found so many it rolled them into an update release

Cisco patched three critical flaws, including CVE-2026-20212 unauthenticated remote root code execution in Nexus 9000 switches; no exploitation observed yet.

Cisco disclosed three critical-rated flaws found during a comprehensive internal security review. CVE-2026-20274 and CVE-2026-20279, both CVSS 9.8, affect the IOS XR carrier-grade operating system and are fixed in newly released versions. CVE-2026-20212 lets unauthenticated remote attackers execute code with root privileges on some Nexus 9000 Series Switches by reaching TCP ports 43210 and 43211 in the default Layer 3 VRF; no software fix exists yet, only infrastructure ACL mitigations. Cisco says it has not observed attacks against these flaws.

I rented a car, and within hours, my driver's license was for sale

Dark-web site Nexus is selling about 153 million driver's license scans, apparently harvested near real time from IDScan.net's service used by Hertz and others.

KrebsOnSecurity reported that the dark-web marketplace Nexus offered roughly 153 million driver's license scans for sale, including the author's license shortly after it was scanned at a car rental. New scans appeared within hours to a day of presentation, implying near real-time access to data flowing through IDScan.net's ID scanning service, which lists Hertz and 11 other companies as customers and captures infrared and ultraviolet spectra. License listings grew by about 400,000 over 24 hours, indicating the leak was ongoing. Nexus went dark hours after the report, and the FBI is investigating.

China-Linked Fire Ant Hijacks Cisco Routers to Steal Credentials and Blind Security Logs

China-nexus espionage group Fire Ant compromised Cisco IOS XR routers and TACACS servers to harvest credentials, capture traffic and suppress logs.

Sygnia investigated an intrusion in which Fire Ant expanded beyond VMware hypervisors to Cisco IOS XR routers, TACACS servers and Linux management hosts. The actor deployed purpose-built router implants that hid a GRE tunnel, filtered log messages, captured PCAPs uploaded to external FTP servers, and used TacTap to inject a library into tac_plus and steal TACACS credentials obfuscated with a single-byte XOR key of 0xEF. A Linux backdoor named BridgeAgent masqueraded as a Zabbix agent, persisted via a root systemd unit, disguised itself as /usr/bin/gnome-shell and received commands over TLS on port 443. The group also used Medusa and REPTILE rootkits, SSH backdoors and renamed binaries impersonating SentinelOne and Cybereason agents, while suppressing logs, disabling SELinux and rewriting login history. Sygnia assesses strong overlap with UNC3886 and published IoCs.

SilkParasite Espionage Campaign Targets Central Asian Governments with Five New RATs

Bitdefender reports SilkParasite, a China-nexus espionage cluster targeting Central Asian governments with seven RATs, five newly documented, delivered via spearphished RAR archives.

Bitdefender Labs assesses with medium confidence that SilkParasite, first discovered in late 2025, is a China-nexus cluster targeting government bodies in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia. Attacks use password-protected RAR archives with malicious Office documents, macro-triggered DLL sideloading, and checks for running Kaspersky AV before execution. The arsenal spans seven RAT families in .NET, C++, Go, and JavaScript with plugin architectures and diverse C2 channels including Google Drive and HTTP cookie/ETag headers; roughly 65 DriveSilkRAT infections were observed, mostly in Asia. Ties to China include BLOODALCHEMY (a Deed RAT/ShadowPad descendant) and an improved SpiceRAT used by SneakyChef, with traces of AI-assisted development in the tooling and lures.
