Orchid Security targets AI agent risk with drift detection and kill switches

Orchid Security launched identity drift detection and application-level kill switches to govern AI agents that exploit enterprise identity debt.

Orchid Security announced AI readiness controls including agent discovery, continuous drift detection between an agent's intended purpose and observed behavior, and application-level kill switches that revoke credentials, disconnect tools, or suspend agent workflows. The company cites its Identity Gap 2026 finding that 57% of enterprise identity is unseen and unmanaged, which agents can leverage to gain elevated access in seconds to minutes. New integrations include a certified PAM integration for Palo Alto Networks Idira and identity telemetry streaming to Splunk Enterprise Security. The launch follows agentic enhancements to Orchid's Identity Control Plane in May 2026 and cites NIST's draft Cyber AI Profile and DORA as regulatory drivers.

New infosec products of the week: September 11, 2026

Weekly product roundup: Securin Platform GA, Orchid Security AI-agent identity controls, Akeyless Agentic Runtime Authority, and Scytale AI-powered TPRM.

Help Net Security's weekly product roundup highlights four vendor launches. Securin announced general availability of its AI-native Preemptive Exposure Management platform combining attack surface discovery, vulnerability intelligence, offensive validation and remediation. Orchid Security added identity drift detection and application-level kill switches targeting AI agents that escalate privileges via hard-coded credentials, orphaned accounts and excessive permissions. Akeyless released Agentic Runtime Authority, a real-time intent-based access control layer on top of its SecretlessAI credential protection, and Scytale launched AI-powered third-party risk management features in its Vendors module.

A five-part inventory for your AI agent credentials

Orchid's CEO recommends inventorying five attributes of AI agent credentials to rein in over-privileged OAuth tokens and service accounts.

In a Help Net Security video, Orchid co-founder and CEO Roy Katmor argues that AI agents accumulate OAuth tokens, API keys, service accounts, and borrowed human credentials that sit outside normal identity review, leading to authority well beyond the agent's original purpose. He proposes treating each agent as an application and documenting owner and purpose, reachable tools, credentials, effective authority, and runtime behavior. Teams can then compare approved intent with observed behavior and apply scoped controls, including targeted kill switches.

IAM Compliance Requirements and Best Practices

A guide maps IAM compliance requirements across SOX, PCI DSS, HIPAA, ISO 27001 and NIST 800-53, urging verified enforcement over documented policies.

The guide argues IAM compliance requires demonstrating that access controls are enforced at runtime, not merely documented, highlighting gaps between policy intent and application-layer execution. It maps recurring requirements across SOX ITGCs, PCI DSS v4.0, HIPAA, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, NIST SP 800-53 and GDPR, covering least privilege, separation of duties, access certification and audit trails. It recommends continuous, evidence-backed verification and application-layer telemetry instead of relying on identity provider logs or quarterly access reviews.

Show HN: Pelican-bicycle alternatives (updated for 2026)

Hobbyist benchmark re-runs the pelican-bicycle SVG test on six 2026 frontier models, comparing generation time and API cost per image.

A Show HN post re-runs the classic pelican-bicycle and similar SVG generation tests across six 2026 models: GPT-6 Astra, Claude Fable 5.1, Gemini 3.8 Flash, DeepSeek V4 Pro, Qwen3.8 Max, and Fugu Ultra v2, recording wall-clock time and cost. It also lists 2025 baseline runs with ten models including Claude Sonnet 4.5, GPT-5.2 Pro, and Qwen3-VL-235B-A22B-Thinking. DeepSeek V4 Pro is consistently cheapest ($0.04-$0.10) while Qwen3.8 Max is slowest, taking up to roughly 17 minutes per generation.

Week in review: Linux rootkit deployed on F5 BIG-IP APM devices, Cisco FMC bugs exploited

Weekly roundup: Cisco FMC and N-able N-central zero-days exploited in the wild, MikroTik RouterOS hijacks, Microsoft Patch Tuesday ships two exploited zero-days.

State-sponsored and financially-motivated attackers are actively exploiting CVE-2026-20079, a critical authentication bypass in Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC), alongside CVE-2026-20316. N-able issued an emergency hotfix for CVE-2026-86218, a critical pre-auth RCE in the N-central RMM platform exploited in the wild. CERT Polska disclosed six RouterOS vulnerabilities being chained to hijack internet-exposed MikroTik devices. Microsoft's September 2026 Patch Tuesday shipped a record patch count including two zero-days, while roughly 67,000 Trezor customers faced phishing after a shipping-partner breach and researchers privately disclosed a zero-click WeChat worm to Tencent.

Key Reasons Why Identity Fabric Matters in 2026

Identity sprawl and unowned machine identities leave enterprise access unobserved at runtime; identity fabrics aim to close the gap between policy intent and execution.

This sponsored explainer describes identity fabric as an architectural approach connecting identity providers, governance systems, applications, and infrastructure into one observable layer that compares designed access intent with runtime execution. It argues identity sprawl across SaaS, APIs, and cloud workloads, plus unmanaged non-human identities (service accounts, bots, workloads, API keys), leaves overprivileged, dormant, and unowned machine identities unmonitored. IdP-only monitoring misses application-layer attacks, and the piece advocates behavioral visibility and lifecycle governance for secrets and machine identities.
