WordPress Security Plugins: How to Choose the Right One

Sucuri's guide breaks WordPress security plugins into hardening, malware scanning, integrity monitoring, and filtering types, and explains how to evaluate and layer them.

The Sucuri guide explains that WordPress security plugins bundle five capabilities - hardening, malware detection, integrity monitoring, activity logging, and application-level filtering - and that plugins run only after WordPress loads, unlike server-level firewalls. It lists leading causes of compromise: outdated plugins and themes, weak or reused credentials, nulled premium software, insecure configuration, and shared-hosting cross-contamination. It concludes with evaluation criteria and a post-installation security checklist for owners without dedicated security teams.

UK.gov begins killing off passwords for 23 million users

UK government rolls out passkeys to 23 million GOV.UK One Login users, saving £600 daily in SMS costs and resisting phishing.

The UK government is expanding passkey sign-in across GOV.UK One Login for more than 23 million users after a trial with over 300,000 people. Nearly one in ten daily One Login sign-ins already use passkeys, which the government says are up to eight times faster than password plus 2FA code. The switch saves taxpayers nearly £600 per day in SMS costs, and the NCSC is encouraging adoption while passwords remain optional.

Read the Apple document explaining how new listening features still protect your privacy

Apple published a document explaining its new Audio Intelligence features process audio in a hardware-isolated Secure Exclave inaccessible to Apple, apps, or the OS.

Apple released a privacy document alongside the Siri AI Audio Intelligence features announced at its iPhone event, covering Siri Recap, Live Rewind, Sound Recognition, and Music Recognition. It states microphone audio is processed in the Secure Exclave of the S11 chip in Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, is never saved as a file, and cannot be accessed by watchOS, apps, the user, or Apple. Transfers between watch and iPhone are encrypted between Secure Exclaves, and transcripts sync end-to-end encrypted when a device passcode and iCloud two-factor authentication are enabled.

Safe word: What is it and why do you need one?

ESET recommends pre-agreed family safe words to counter AI voice-clone scams such as virtual kidnapping, as one-in-four Americans report receiving deepfake calls.

ESET outlines how scammers use just seconds of audio scraped from social media or work content to create convincing voice clones, with a Hiya report finding one-in-four Americans received a deepfake voice call in the past 12 months. Common schemes include virtual kidnapping calls mixing cloned voices with sobbing and background noise. A pre-agreed, non-OSINT-discoverable safe word, plus callback verification via known numbers and 2FA, reduces success rates of these frauds.

Stop Telling People Not To Click Links

Tailscale CEO argues link-clicking is not the problem; deploying phishing-resistant authentication like passkeys and WebAuthn eliminates entire attack classes.

Tailscale CEO Avery Pennarun argues in an opinion piece that clicking links is a symptom, not the disease, and that weak authentication is the real failure behind phishing damage. He advocates phishing-resistant FIDO/WebAuthn, passkeys, and device-bound tokens, plus continuous identity-anchored network access so unexpected login prompts become suspicious signals. He argues this approach makes security less burdensome for users while neutralizing credential replay and fake login pages.

RightCrowd Pass unifies mobile, physical, and biometric credentials

RightCrowd launched Pass, a credentialing platform unifying mobile, physical, and biometric access credentials, cutting credential revocation from 12.2 minutes to under 60 seconds.

RightCrowd announced Pass, a solution that issues and manages mobile, physical, and biometric access credentials from a single platform instead of fragmented badge programs. Mobile credentials are provisioned through a web-based API and can be suspended or revoked individually or in groups in under 60 seconds, versus an average 12.2 minutes for handling a lost or damaged physical badge. Each mobile credential is tied to a device via two-factor authentication, works with HID, Wavelynx, and LEGIC infrastructure, and counts toward LEED and BREEAM sustainability credits. The product is available now to new and existing customers and can be added to current RightCrowd SmartAccess deployments.
