AWS Systems Manager Agent Vulnerability Allows Attackers to Bypass Port-Forwarding Restrictions
Critical SSRF flaw in AWS SSM Agent (CVE-2026-89049) lets authenticated users bypass link-local denylists and reach EC2 Instance Metadata Service for IAM credentials.
CVE-2026-89049 (Critical, CVSS v3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H) affects Amazon SSM Agent versions earlier than 3.3.4851.0, with the fix shipping in 3.3.4851.0. The remote-host port-forwarding feature's denylist for link-local addresses can be bypassed because equivalent address representations are not validated, enabling SSRF to restricted endpoints such as the EC2 Instance Metadata Service at 169.254.169.254. An attacker with authenticated AWS access and ssm:StartSession permission could retrieve instance profile IAM credentials and pivot to S3, Secrets Manager, Lambda, or other cloud resources depending on role permissions.

Recorded Future's Insikt Group identified 215 actively exploited CVEs in H1 2026, up 34% from 161 in H1 2025, with the most impactful flaws combining network reachability, no authentication, and code execution. AsyncRAT was the top malware family, with AsyncRAT, Cobalt Strike, XWorm, Stealc, and REMCOS remaining top-ten staples; Android NFC malware like NFCShare and NGate enabled payment card theft and ATM cash-outs. AI-enabled attacks remained additive to established tradecraft, concentrated in Levels 1-3 of Recorded Future's AIM3 maturity model, with AI-assisted vulnerability research (e.g., Claude Mythos fixing 271 Firefox bugs in Firefox 150) inflating NVD disclosure volumes 43% above the prior six-month average. The report urges defenders to prioritize remotely exploitable RCE flaws, behavioral detection, developer credential security, and third-party oversight.

CISA Adds Three Known Exploited Vulnerabilities to Catalog
CISA added three actively exploited vulnerabilities — two JFrog Artifactory and one ConnectWise ScreenConnect — to its KEV Catalog.
CISA added CVE-2026-42016 (JFrog Artifactory incorrect authorization), CVE-2026-42018 (JFrog Artifactory improper authentication), and CVE-2026-84869 (ConnectWise ScreenConnect improper privilege management and missing authorization) to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog based on evidence of active exploitation. BOD 26-04 requires Federal Civilian Executive Branch agencies to prioritize rapid remediation of such high-risk vulnerabilities on publicly exposed assets and to check for prior compromise. CISA urges all organizations to adopt risk-based vulnerability management and prioritize KEV remediation.
